The Brickcom GOB-100A series is an outdoor network camera that 

uses a 3G SIM card to transmit video and audio data over a 3G network. 

This transmission option creates an innovative outdoor surveillance 

solution that frees users from the installation restrictions caused 

by internet infrastructure. The GOB-100A series adopts a megapixel 

sensor to deliver extremely clear and detailed images and the Smart 

Focus capability eases installation by allowing users to configure the 

zoom and focus setting remotely.

With an IP67 certified outdoor enclosure, the GOB-100A can operate 

in temperatures ranging from -40ºC to 60ºC (-40ºF ~ 140ºF). The 3G 

data transmission and IP67 outdoor enclosure bring the IP surveillance 

benefit of remote access to a new level by enabling the GOB- 

100A to be placed in any location, regardless of environment, climate, 

or landforms. 

3G/UMTS 

Installation for the WOB-100A/GOB-100A models is not restricted by 

location or landforms. The cameras offer various wireless options that 

make connecting to networks easier by adopting the technology of 

IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n or 3G SIM module. The wireless Bullet Cameras can 

be set within any wireless or 3G signal coverage areas. Users do not 

have to worry about the data connection failing because each camera 

is equipped with a Micro SD/SDHC memory card slot for local storage.

The Brickcom Fixed Box series offers a reliable and excellent solution 

for 24-hour video surveillance. The FB-100A series offers highly efficient 

H.264 video compression, which reduces bandwidth and storage 

requirements without compromising image quality. M-JPEG and 

MPEG-4 are also supported for flexibility. 

With the megapixel progressive sensor and removable IR-cut Filter, 

this series delivers extremely clear and detailed images that CCTV 

cameras cannot offer. 

The internal SD/SDHC memory card slot allows for local storage, which 

prevents data loss if the data connection is lost. Users can view live 

feed anywhere by internet browser or 3G mobile phone. 



Also, Fixed Box series can transmit the video to portable devices 

through other technology, such as WiMax, NAS, Digital Frame and 

power line. 

The Fixed Box series receives power through the same cable as for 

data transmission. This makes installation easy because there is no 

external power supply needed. This series is also designed with a BNC 

connector as the video output interface. During installation, installers 

can via the video feed onsite through a small monitor and fine-tune 

the focus, Iris, and zoom to get the best image quality. From installation, 

the camera will be ready for use and the user will not have to 

spend time remotely configuring the camera.

What are the advantages 

of video transmission 

over a two-wire cable 

(CAT .5e cable)? 

Compared to conventional video transmission with coaxial cable, 

transmission using two-wire cable offers the following advantages: 

• low cost cable material, CAT.5e network cable 

• easy installation 

• transmission of several signals, including data, etc. on one cable 

• low cable attenuation ensures longer distances without amplification 

• less susceptible to disturbances due to symmetrical transmission 

For optimal transmission, unshielded twisted pair CAT.5e cable 

(UTP) can be used. The maximum transmission length can be 

further increased by using higher quality cables. 

Other cable types, e.g. telephone cable can also be used if 

required, however this reduces the usable length, so that this type 

of cable should only be used in the individual case, e.g. in existing 

installations.

PoE - Power over Ethernet 

The PoE standard IEEE 802.3af was adopted in 2003. It defines a procedure 

for the joint transmission of both data (e.g. TCP/IP packets in 

Ethernet) and power on a common twisted pair cable Cat.5/6/7. 

Distinction is generally made between the devices PD (Powered 

Device, power consumer) and PSE (Power Sourcing Equipment, power 

supplier). Classic examples of PD devices are IP cameras, access points, 

print servers or also media converters. 

The standard defines the transmission of a nominal DC 

voltage of 48V DC/350 mA < 100 ms) over a length per 

switchport of up to 100 m; the maximum power level is 

15.4 watts. Intelligent detection and protection mechanisms 

are used to determine the performance class and 

if necessary protect connected non-Poe devices in the 

network against damage.

In this way, decentralised consumers can be protected 

against power failures at very low cost with a UPS

What means......? 

AES 

Auto Electronic Shutter 

Normally, the CCD chip in video cameras is exposed for 1/50th of a second and then 

read out. Since CCDs are very sensitive to light, the sensor would quickly be overexposed 

in strong light and the output signal rendered unusable. Therefore, either 

the amount of light to the sensor must be reduced by a shutter in the lens or the 

exposure time of the sensor reduced. The electronic shutter shortens the effective 

exposure time of the CCD up to 1/100,000th of a second 

AGC 

Automatic Gain Control 

In contrast to a shutter, the automatic gain control is active in poor lighting conditions. 

A control voltage is obtained from the image which controls the CCD signal 

gain depending on the brightness level so as to provide a constant video signal on 

the monitor. A negative aspect is that the CCD noise is amplified with increasing 

gain, which is where AGC has its limitations. 

For some applications, it may be necessary to deactivate the automatic gain control, 

for example, small bright objects on a dark background (astronomy). In this case, 

the AGC would greatly intensify the relatively dark image and overamplify the small 

bright object. 

BLC 

Back Light Compensation 

Where there are strong contrasts, for example, a bright background or bright window 

in the visual field of a camera, other objects are often difficult to distinguish. 

The BLC can reduce this effect. 

DNR 

Digital Noise Reduction 

This function effectively suppresses image noise which occurs in poor lighting 

conditions. Noise reduction generally takes place in that the signal processor in the 

camera places several individual images one on top of the other. This reduces the 

image noise and amplifies the image information, however rapid movements can 

look slightly blurred or fuzzy in the image. 

DSP 

Digital Signal Processor 

These cameras use a digital signal processor to internally process the signals from 

the CCD chip. The presence of such a DSP generally says little about a camera‘s 

performance. Decisive are the computing capacity (speed) of the DSP and programming. 

The performance of DSPs is measured in MIPS (Million Instructions Per 

Second). 

WDR 


The wide dynamic function allows the display of image contents with strongly 

varying brightness levels. Conventional CCD cameras have a linear dynamic range 

and therefore do not have the same level of perception as the human eye, which 

can recognise contrast levels as high as 1000:1. Humans therefore can be in a room 

with an illumination level of 100 lux, for example, and see through a window with an 

illumination level of 100,000 lux at the same time. 

In surveillance practice, there are often situations where observations are made with 

strong differences in contrast (for example, cars driving with full beam at night). WDR 

cameras use a technology by means of which they store images with different exposure 

times for the light and dark areas in their memory. A high-performance DSP is 

able to generate from these images an image with a much higher dynamic range. 

AI 

Auto Iris 

These cameras offer the possibility to connect auto iris lenses. With these types of 

lenses, the electronic shutter of the camera is switched off and the brightness controlled 

by an electromechanically operated shutter. Distinction is made here between 

lenses that automatically obtain their control voltage directly from the video signal 

of the camera (video drive) or lenses that only have an electromechanical shutter 

drive (DC drive). In the case of the latter, the control voltage is generated in the camera. 

A special connector is provided on the camera body for electrical connection 

to the lens. To be noted is that the pin assignments of this connector differ with both 

types of lenses. 

DC 

Connector for DC Drive Lenses 

For cameras with this option, DC controlled auto iris lenses can be used. In the case 

of these lenses, the shutter is controlled electromechanically by the camera. The 

background brightness is adjusted with a control on the camera. 

C/CS-Mount 

C/CS-Mount Lens Thread 

This is a standard lens mounting thread. These screw threads have a diameter of 

1 inch (25.4 mm) and a pitch of 1/32 inch (0.79 mm). The difference between a C and 

CS-mount is the flange focal length, i.e. the distance from the mounting flange to 

the imaging plane (CCD sensor). For a C-mount this is 17.52 mm and for a CS-mount 

12.52 mm. Our cameras all have a CS-mount flange focal length; C-mount lenses can 

be mounted with a 5 mm thick extension tube (included).
