What is Shows on the Go?
Shows on the Go is a regional touring program delivered annually
by Country Arts WA. It provides self-contained, subsidised tours
of professional performing arts productions to regional and remote
Western Australia.
Shows on the Go is a community-driven model. That means you decide
which shows tour to your town by voting in the Touring Menu. Every
year between two and four of the most popular shows are made
available to community groups across the state for a performance fee
between $2,000 and $7,000 per show.
Presenting a show in your town
To present a show your organisation or group must be incorporated and
hold a current ABN. If your organisation is not incorporated or does
not have an ABN but you are interested in presenting please contact a
member of the Touring Team to discuss your options.
When presenting a show in your town Country Arts WA will provide
the performance, technical equipment and marketing materials as
well as organising all travel and accommodation for the touring party.
You will be required to pay a Presenter Fee, royalties and/or an
APRA license, hire a venue for performance, ensure adequate
power is available (see each listing), meet the touring party when
they arrive in town, manage local marketing and ticket sales and may
need to provide some technical assistance.
Some shows require 3-phase
power, 32 Amp. You will need
a power plug that looks like this
image to present these shows.

Workshops – subject to itinerary
Terrapin can provide 90 minute
Boats is a story of two mariners
fl eeing their past and embracing
adventure. They meet through
bizarre circumstances involving
a chicken, a deserted island and a
sombrero.
Boats is classic storytelling where
the magic unfolds in front of the
audience. The sound effects are
created live, a boat is cut from bread,
a bird tied from rope, a circus hides
in a jacket, and fi nally a storm is
made with a teacup.
Boats has acrobatics, object
manipulation, a microphone that
goes in water and enchanting story
telling. It is a moving story that
leaves a lump in your throat and a
smile on your face.
Bubblewrap & Boxes
by Asking For Trouble
This gorgeous family show is set in
the lost mail room, a strange, dusty
‘nowhere land’ where homeless
parcels and undeliverable letters live.
A simple but ingenious set of
cardboard boxes sets the scene.
There is a highly-strung mail room
dweller, intent on keeping his boxes
in order, and a free-spirited new
arrival whose sense of adventure
will leave you gasping for breath.
The discovery of a strange parcel
throws the oddly delightful duo into
a quandary. How will they deal with
this unexpected development?
This story about how to live bravely
in a big world is told using acrobatics,
clowning and a whole lot of
cardboard boxes.
Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss
Composed by Johann Strauss, directed by Frank Ford AM
This production of Johann Strauss’
operetta, Die Fledermaus has been
taken out of its musty Victorian
origins and set in the fun and fi zzy
times of a fanciful, gently Australian
Art Deco of the 1920’s. Respected
Director, Frank Ford AM says that
the high energy and vivacious cast
are well suited to the mischief and
mayhem that makes the show such
fun. It will, he says, “...have people
singing it on the way home”.
“This is opera as it should be: fun,
intimate and lacking in all pretension
yet performed to the highest musical
and dramatic standards while building
on tradition rather than rejecting it to
“make it new”.” - The West Australian
Doc Faustus – A Soulless Western
Richard Maritzer
In Christopher Marlowe’s original
Faust, a highly successful scholar
dissatisfi ed with his life, makes a deal
with the devil (Mephistopheles, or
Mel) and exchanges his soul for 24
years of unlimited knowledge and
worldly pleasures.
In Doc Faustus, the scholar becomes
a quaint, slightly goofy, patient-killing
doctor in a one-horse town just
outside of Abilene whose highest
personal ambition is to become the
personal physician to the state’s
Governor. We are treated to a
staccato travelogue of Faustus’
desires, whims and journeys through
the ages and continents told in the
most engaging manner. Three zany
vaudevillians mix classic theatre with
slapstick comedy, song and popculture
references.
Red Silk
Written by Lois Achimovich and directed by Aarne Neeme
42
Red Silk is based on an incident in
the life of Anne Sexton, a Pulitzer
Prize winning poet of the sixties.
Her poetry was notorious for its
outspoken views on sexuality, war,
domestic violence and love.
Soon after her marriage, she was
diagnosed by her fi rst psychiatrist
as having “diffi culty controlling her
desire for romance and adventure”.
Thus started her odyssey through
huge success as a performance
poet, but also her treatment by two
psychiatrists.
Did they destroy her integrity and
then her life, or was she doomed
long before they met? The play is a
fi ctional account of a real meeting
between Anne and her psychiatrists,
where their personal agendas collide.
Scent Tales
Scent Tales is the bittersweet story
of a baker and her sister inspired
by an ancient fable from Middle
Eastern storyteller Nasruddin Hodja.
An eccentric and hilarious narrator
seated jealousy of her sister which
results in an incredible accusation:
Bea accuses Sanji of stealing the
delicious smells from her bakery and
takes her to Court.
Scent Tales uses wit, puppetry and
poetry to tell a tale of memory,
sensory intrigue and a recipe for
Love Bread that brings the baker to
her senses.
In 1829 Eliza Shaw was dumped on
the beach at Fremantle in the blazing
summer sun with her six children
and all her goods and chattels. We
a pioneering farmer in the Swan
“beautiful, sensitive, charming and
youthful energy and determination
The Alpha Show of The Little Mermaid
Alpha’s The Little Mermaid
humorously and powerfully captures
the magic of what is Hans Christian
Andersen’s classic tale of tragedy
and love from another world.
Without the depressing ending! This
was Hans’ favourite story that he
wrote, but the fairytale very much
mimicked and refl ected his own pain
about never fi nding or the loss of love.
We obviously believe in the power of
love and wanted a moving story that
also highlighted what might prevent
us from receiving and creating a life
that is full of life – a lack of truth.
The Legend of...
58
John Henry presents: The Legend of...
is about real circus people with
unreal stories; unpretentious,
cheeky and confronting.
We use circus, with a smattering of
dance & theatre, to turn our daily
realities into Legends. We take
the audience on fantastic journeys
both real and imagined, amplifying
everyday struggles and joys. Since
we allow our audience into our
vulnerabilities, they readily identify
with us and celebrate our strengths.
The beauty and simplicity of manual
labour is highlighted, in contrast
with current society’s affi nity for
computerised work. The audience
walks away with a tangible sense of
their own unique possibilities.
Wagner’s Ring Cycle is about a being
misadventure. His life and the
