Dear Friends,
I would like to offer my warmest congratulations to St. Stephen’s Community House on the occasion
of its 50 th Anniversary.
For the last half-century, St. Stephen’s has made a difference to countless lives by helping and
empowering people in our community. It has shown vision and determination in its efforts to achieve
social and economic justice, addressing issues such as homelessness, hunger, unemployment, and
racism, to name but a few.
Using local resources creatively, St. Stephen’s has provided education, food, shelter, health care, child
care, counselling, conflict resolution, cultural events, and arts programs to thousands of people. In
doing so, it has been sensitive and responsive to the needs of a diverse community, helping seniors,
young people, immigrants, refugees, and victims of violence, among many others.
I wish to commend the many volunteers, staff, board members, and supporters who have devoted
countless hours to St. Stephen’s over the past five decades. They are models in their selflessness, their
advocacy, and their compassion. Thanks to their efforts, we have stronger neighbourhoods and a better
city.
The 50 th Anniversary of St. Stephen’s Community House is an opportunity for us to honour and
celebrate its special history of vision, dedication, and achievement. It is also a chance for us to renew
our resolve in continuing to strengthen the community that St. Stephen’s serves so tirelessly.
