industry worldwide to meet and debate new developments in PVC
recipes, technology, legislation and market drivers. It brings together
leading compounders, end users of PVC and industry suppliers for
open discussion on the issues such as sustainability and changes
in compounding.
There is a growing trend in the plastics industry for bio-based and
natural materials. In the PVC industry this is mainly seen in the biobased
plasticisers that are being produced as alternatives to some
phthalates. In the US this gives a high percentage of renewable carbon
for the USDA biopreferred programme. However, what are the effects
on the rest of the recipe of this substitution? Are these materials so
biodegradable that they need microbicides to preserve the vinyl?
The European Union has legislated against the use of heavy metals
and this has affected PVC stabilisation with moves away from very
effective lead formulation in profiles, to new products such as Ca/
Zn. However, the EU Biocides Directive is going to affect another
commonly used ingredient: OBPA antimicrobials which are widely
used in outdoor applications as a preservative will be banned.
What are the alternative additives for formulations? What are
the requirements of end-users? Are there improvements in PVC
processing? How are PVC markets developing? Is it feasible to

CONFERENCE VENUE
The conference will take place at the Hilton Hotel, a central location
near the airport and city centre. Düsseldorf is on the banks of the river
Rhine and a good place for dining out, cultural tours and shopping,
including the famous “Königsallee” with its street cafes. There are many
old features such as the Altstadt, breweries and the “Schloss Benrath”.
In the north alongside the river are the ruins of the “Kaiserpfalz”, the
legendary Emperor Friedrich Barbarossa’s “Royal Palace”.
