GRAND LODGE OF ILLINOIS, I. O. O. F. 89<br />

The Case.<br />

Ben. Lee, a member <strong>of</strong> Success <strong>Lodge</strong> No. 160, <strong>of</strong> Missouri, came<br />

into <strong>the</strong> jurisdiction <strong>of</strong> my home <strong>Lodge</strong>, No. 158, <strong>Illinois</strong>, took sicl:<br />

with typhoid fever; complications arose which necessitated <strong>the</strong> ampu-<br />

tation <strong>of</strong> one <strong>of</strong> his limbs above his knee, incurring an expense <strong>of</strong> a<br />

little over $360.00. The <strong>Grand</strong> Master took up this matter with <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Grand</strong> Secretary <strong>of</strong> Missouri and he has been assured that <strong>the</strong> <strong>Grand</strong><br />

1 <strong>Lodge</strong> <strong>of</strong> Missouri will properly look after this case; <strong>the</strong> local <strong>Lodge</strong><br />

to which Bro<strong>the</strong>r Lee belonged, being <strong>of</strong> small resources.<br />

We have <strong>the</strong> satisfaction <strong>of</strong> having received a splendid letter<br />

from <strong>the</strong> Fa<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> Bro<strong>the</strong>r Lee and some <strong>of</strong> his friends, which here<br />

follows<br />

My Dear Bro<strong>the</strong>rs)— I take this. method <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>fering you my heartfelt<br />

thanks for <strong>the</strong> kindness and cheer you have shown toward my<br />

beloved son, Mr. Ben. Lee, in his awful suffering and distress, and<br />

now as I have done all I can do here, I will go to my home in<br />

Missouri, ever praying for <strong>the</strong> blessings <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> high Heaven to rest<br />

upon you and our beloved Bro<strong>the</strong>rhood <strong>the</strong> world over. May God<br />

bless us and help us to fraternalize <strong>the</strong> world.<br />

I once was young, but now I am old, yet I have not seen <strong>the</strong><br />

righteous forsaken nor his seed begging for bread.<br />

I have also had occasion to correspond with Bro<strong>the</strong>r A. L. Somers,<br />

Great Sachem <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Improved Order <strong>of</strong> Red Men, in reference to a<br />

small matter that is in process <strong>of</strong> settlement, and from a letter just<br />

received, I feel sure <strong>the</strong> matter will be closed up before <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong><br />

my term, for which I desire to thank Great Sachem Somers.<br />

The <strong>Grand</strong> Master is exceedingly pleased with <strong>the</strong> communications<br />

from <strong>the</strong> various <strong>Grand</strong> Jurisdictions named and desires to appreciate<br />

his thanks herewith.
