FIRST COMMUNICATION TO SUBORDINATE AND REBEKAH<br />

LODGES.<br />

Sullivan, 111., Dec. 2, 1912.<br />

To <strong>the</strong> Subordinate and Rebekah <strong>Lodge</strong>s <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> State <strong>of</strong> <strong>Illinois</strong>, I. O.<br />

O. F.—Greeting:<br />

Your <strong>Grand</strong> Master is more thankful than he can express for <strong>the</strong><br />

honor you have conferred upon him. He will during <strong>the</strong> year devote<br />

<strong>the</strong> major portion <strong>of</strong> his time to <strong>the</strong> Order. He urges upon every<br />

<strong>Lodge</strong> and every individual member that all matters brought to his<br />

<strong>of</strong>ficial attention should come to him in <strong>the</strong> regular way, and that, be-<br />

fore putting <strong>the</strong> burden upon him, you first endeavor to settle <strong>the</strong><br />

matter by <strong>the</strong> aid <strong>of</strong> your <strong>Lodge</strong> Deputy and <strong>the</strong> law as announced in<br />

<strong>the</strong> Code.<br />

INCREASE IN MEMBERSHIP.<br />

Our beloved Order in <strong>the</strong>' jurisdiction <strong>of</strong> <strong>Illinois</strong> won <strong>the</strong> loving<br />

cup, <strong>of</strong>fered by <strong>Grand</strong> Sire John B. Cockrum, for <strong>the</strong> largest gain in<br />

membership last year, and our jurisdiction now stands at <strong>the</strong> head <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> column in <strong>the</strong> Sovereign <strong>Grand</strong> <strong>Lodge</strong>. I ask <strong>the</strong> Bro<strong>the</strong>rs and<br />

Sisters <strong>of</strong> <strong>Illinois</strong> to maintain this position.<br />

FRATERNALISM.<br />

The basic and fundamental laws <strong>of</strong> our Order are right. I do not<br />

expect to recommend any changes <strong>the</strong>rein. My endeavors shall be to<br />

improve, in minor details, and <strong>the</strong> work <strong>of</strong> our Order. I ask every<br />

Bro<strong>the</strong>r and Sister to bring to bear upon <strong>the</strong> problems presented in<br />

your <strong>Lodge</strong> room practical business methods, combined with a true<br />

fraternal spirit.
