LETTER FROM OUR PASTOR
Dear Parishioners,
Encourage . . . and build up one another. (1 Thess. 5:11)
Back in the year 1490, two years before Columbus
discovered America, two struggling artists, Albrecht Durer and
Albert, his brother, agreed that one would work full-time to
support them while the other studied. So Albrecht studied while
Albert worked, with the understanding that when Albrecht became
successful, he'd return the favor. After attaining enormous
success Albrecht went back to honor their agreement, only to
discover the terrible price his brother Albert had paid. By
engaging in hard manual labor his fingers had become stiff and
twisted and he could no longer paint. But instead of becoming
jealous and bitter, Albert encouraged Albrecht and prayed for his
continued success. In fact, one day while Albert was praying
Albrecht quietly sketched his brother's gnarled, misshapen
hands. Today his masterpiece, “The Praying Hands” tell a story
of love, sacrifice, and the power of encouragement!

another." Think of the
people who've cheered you
on as you struggled to reach
life's milestones: the teacher
who encouraged you to
believe in yourself; the
coach who pushed you to
your limit to get you over the
finish line; the boss who
gave you the extra
responsibility that led you to
your promotion; the parents
and grandparents who were
there every step of the way;
the entire chorus of
encouragers who sustained
you on your journey. Go
ahead, drop them a note,
send them an e-mail,
surprise them with
flowers. But don't stop
there: Show your appreciation by passing it forward, by doing the
same for those around you. Remember the praying hands? They
were giving hands, working hands, loving hands! Who do they
remind you of? Now it’s your turn to be that for someone else.
There is not repayment better for the person who did it for you.

REFLECTION ON STEWARDSHIP- You are the
Church – a church is not a place–it’s people. What does your
church mean to you? Just how do you regard it? Do you regard
your church as a kind of spiritual “service station”–a place where
you pay some money and get some service? Unfortunately, that
is all it is to many–even to many good people. And it couldn’t be
more wrong. A church is not a place–it is people, and you are
one of them. It is not a collection of buildings–it is a Community of
Souls; and you are one of those Souls. It is the Body of Christ –
and you are part of that Body. It is the Family of God – and you
are a member of that Family. In other words, the Church is not
something distinct from you; it is you. YOU are the Church. When
you look at it that way–the correct way–how your attitude and
reaction should change! For instance, while your church needs
your money, it needs YOU even more. It needs not merely what you
have, but also what you are. It needs your time and talent. Give of
yourself to your church in time and talent, a “good steward,” and an
enlightened and dedicated member of the congregation.

CARTA DE NUESTRO PASTOR
Por eso anímense mutuamente y edifíquense juntos, como
ya lo están haciendo (1 Tesalonicenses. 5:11).
En el año 1490, dos años antes de que Colón
descubriera América, dos artistas principiantes, Albrecht Durer y
su hermano Alberto, acordaron que uno de ellos apoyaría y se
pondría a trabajar tiempo completo mientras el otro estudiaba.
Albrecht estudió mientras Alberto trabajaba, en el entendimiento
de que cuando a Albrecht le sonriera la fortuna, devolvería el
favor. Tras lograr un enorme éxito, Albrecht regresó para cumplir
su promesa, y asi descubrió que su hermano Alberto había
pagado un precio terrible. A causa del duro trabajo manual, sus
dedos se habían endurecido y torcido y ya no podía pintar. Pero
en lugar de estar celoso y amargado, Alberto alentaba a Albrecht
y oraba por su éxito continuo. De hecho, un día mientras Alberto
estaba orando, Albrecht, silenciosamente, empezó a esbozar las
manos nudosas y deformes de su hermano. Hoy, su obra
maestra, "Manos en Oración" cuenta una historia de amor, de
sacrificio y del poder de dar aliento.

conseguir tus metas en la
vida: el profesor que te
animó a creer en ti mismo;
el entrenador que te
empujó al límite para

aumento; los padres y
abuelos que estaban allí,
en cada paso de tu
camino; todo ese coro que
te aclamaba, te alentaba y
te sostenía durante todo tu
viaje. ¡Adelante! Envíales
una nota, escríbeles un
correo electrónico,
sorpréndelos con flores. ¡No te detengas! Muéstrales tu
agradecimiento haciendo tu lo mismo por aquellos que te rodean,
pásale tu animo a otros mas adelante. ¿Recuerdas las manos en
oración? ¡Fueron manos dadivosas, manos amorosas, manos
laboriosas, manos amantes del trabajo! ¿Que te hacen recordar
esas manos? Ahora es tu turno de hacer lo mismo por alguien
mas. ¡No habrá mejor pago para la persona que lo hizo por ti!

verlos libres de preocupaciones. El que no se ha casado se
preocupa de las cosas del Señor y de cómo agradarle. No asi el
que se ha casado, pues se preocupa de las cosas del mundo y
de cómo agradar a su esposa y esta dividido. De igual manera la
mujer soltera y la virgen se preocupan del servicio del Señor y de
ser santas en su cuerpo y en su espiritu. Mientras la casada se
preocupa de las cosas del mundo y de agradar a su esposo. Al
decirles esto no quiero ponerles trampas; se los digo para su
bien, con miras a una vida mas noble en la que estén
enteramente unidos al Señor.” (1 Corintios 7:32-34)

REFLEXION SOBRE LAS ESCRITURAS – En la Primera
Lectura de hoy, oímos a Samuel responder “!Aquí estoy!” cada
vez que el Señor le llamaba. Ojalá que también nosotros
estemos atentos al llamado del Señor en nuestras vidas y
estemos listos a ser como dice el Salmista: “Aquí estoy Señor,
dispuesto a hacer tu voluntad.”
REFLEXION SOBRE LA ADMINISTRACION DE LOS
BIENES DE DIOS - Una iglesia no es el lugar – Es la gente.
¡Eres TU!¿Qué significa tu iglesia para ti? ¿Cómo haces
referencia a ella? Relacionas tu, tu iglesia como una estación de
“servicio espiritual” – un lugar donde pagas algún dinero y
obtienes algún servicio? Desafortunadamente, eso es lo que es
para muchos – hasta para la gente buena. Y esto no podría ser
más erróneo de lo que ya es. Una iglesia no es solo un lugar – es
la gente, y tu eres uno de ellos. No es una colección de edificios –
es una Comunidad de Almas; y tu eres una de esas Almas. Es el
Cuerpo de Cristo – y tú eres parte de ese Cuerpo. Es la Familia
de Dios – y tú eres un miembro de esa Familia. En otras
palabras, la iglesia no es algo distinto a ti; eres tú. TÚ eres la
Iglesia. ¡Cuando tú lo ves de esa manera – la manera correcta –
tu actitud y tu reacción deberían cambiar! Mientras tanto, aunque
la iglesia necesita tu dinero, también te necesita a TI aun más. No
necesita meramente lo que tú tienes, sino lo que tú eres. Necesita
tu tiempo y talento. Da de ti mismo a tu iglesia en tiempo y
talento, como un “buen administrador,” y se un miembro de tu
congregación deleitado y dedicado.

begin on Sunday, January 29 th . with 10 am Mass. We know

Schools nationwide to celebrate Catholic Schools Week.

“Manteniendo Viva la Promesa” es para quien tomó la clase de
VIRTUS entre los años 2003 – 2005 y será impartida en el Centro
de Educación Para Adultos el 21 de enero de 9 a 10:30 am.
Para quien va a tomar VIRTUS por vez primera, la clase se
llama “Protegiendo los Niños de Dios” y será el 21 de enero

tenemos fe en
Cristo en medio

problemas y
luchas, El
interviene también
y restaura la
calma en nuestras
vidas. El nos
regala su gracia,
su paz, su alegría
y su perdón. Muy
frecuentemente,
nosotros no
creemos que El
pueda realmente "calmar" nuestras preocupaciones y
problemas.
Y Cristo nos dice: ¿Dónde está su valor? ¡Que fe tan pequeña
tenemos!” Cristo es el ancla de nuestras vidas diarias, y cuando
dejamos de tener fe y esperanza y paramos de ponerlo en el
centro de nuestras vidas cualquier ola o ráfaga de viento nos
puede destruir. Nos caemos y las "ondas" de la muerte nos
rodean.
Recuerde que todos estos acontecimientos están sujetos a la
voluntad de Cristo. ¡Todas las fuerzas de la naturaleza obedecen
al Señor! ¡Permanezcamos con El siempre! ¡Cristo nos dará un
nuevo sendero cuando lo necesitemos y nos sentiremos siempre
seguros de saber que El es nuestro Salvador! Bendigamos y
demos gracias al Señor siempre, confiando en Su cuidado
paternal.

doce semanas en español: De Familia
a Familia. El mismo brinda apoyo a familiares y
cuidadores de personas que sufren trastornos
mentales y les enseña técnicas de cuidado

7 a 8:30 pm, en salón 202 del Centro Comunitario en la

“Keeping the Promise Alive” is a mandatory refresher
course ONLY for those volunteers and employees who took the
original “Protecting God’s Children” workshop between 2003-
2005. It is a 1.5 hour session with one video that provides
ongoing awareness for the prevention of child sexual abuse. To
renew your VIRTUS volunteer status you MUST take this course
which will take place (in English) on Wednesday, January 25,
2012 from 7 to 8:30 pm in the Outback. Go to www.virtus.org

“Protecting God’s Children” will take place on

UST AQUINAS LECTURE EXAMINES NATURAL
KNOWLEDGE OF GOD - The University of St. Thomas
Center for Thomistic Studies will host Dr. Matthew Levering,
professor of religious studies at the University of Dayton, as he
gives this year's Aquinas Lecture, ―Romans 1:20 and Our
Natural Knowledge of God,‖ at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 26 at UST’s
Jones Hall. Dr. Levering will examine how Christians should hold
that God’s existence, along with certain other attributes, can be
demonstrated by natural reason on the basis of material things.

que tendrán lugar durante la Semana de Escuelas Católicas que
empezará el domingo 29 de Enero.

Escuela Católica San Jerónimo estará uniéndose a todas las
Escuelas Católicas de la Nación para celebrar la Semana de
Escuelas Católicas. Durante la semana del 29 de Enero al 6 de
febrero, nuestro enfoque estará en las diferentes partes de
nuestra comunidad – parroquia, voluntarios, la nación, la
comunidad, estudiantes, futuros estudiantes y maestros.
