CHRIST, THE KING
The selection from the book of Daniel presented in today‘s first reading was part of an attempt to
weave a vision of ultimate success for the Jews under persecution. Exactly whom the author had in mind
when he refers to ―one like a Son of Man‖ is hotly disputed by scholars today. The fact is, we simply do
not know if the author meant anyone in particular or if this is a collective, figurative image of Israel‘s
triumph. What we do know is that the early Christian community seized upon this passage and recognized
it as a messianic prophecy, a foretelling of the ultimate triumph of Jesus as the Christ of God. The
Lectionary‘s juxtaposition of this text with today‘s Gospel narrative of Jesus before Pilate is a wonderful
example of how the liturgy ―layers‖ passages with new meaning by inserting them in a particular context.
The celebration of Christ the King allows us to hear these passages with a new depth of meaning in
light of our contemporary understanding of how, in Jesus and his resurrection and ascension, we have seen
the fulfillment of Daniel‘s vision of ultimate deliverance. The veiled admission of Jesus before Pilate that
he did indeed have a kingdom ―not here‖ takes on new meaning against the cosmic vision of Daniel, who
allows us to glimpse the ―Ancient One‖ on his heavenly throne.

La selección del libro de Daniel para la primera lectura de hoy forma parte de un intento de tejer
una visión del éxito final de los judíos perseguidos. Exactamente qué tenía el autor en mente cuando se
refiere a ―uno semejante a un Hijo de hombre‖ es muy disputado por los eruditos de hoy. El hecho es que,
simplemente, no sabemos si el autor quiso decir a alguien en particular o si se trata de una imagen
colectiva, figurativa del triunfo de Israel. Lo que sí sabemos es que la primera comunidad cristiana se
apoderó de este pasaje y lo reconoció como una profecía mesiánica, un anuncio de la victoria final de Jesús
como el Cristo de Dios. El contraste que hace el leccionario de este texto con la narrativa del Evangelio de
hoy de Jesús ante Pilato es un maravilloso ejemplo de cómo la liturgia da a ciertos pasajes nuevas ―capas‖
de significado mediante la inserción en un contexto particular.
La celebración de Cristo Rey nos permite escuchar estos pasajes con una nueva profundidad de
significado a la luz de nuestra comprensión contemporánea de cómo, en Jesús y su Resurrección y
Ascensión, hemos visto el cumplimiento de la visión de Daniel de la liberación final. La admisión velada
de Jesús ante Pilato que, efectivamente, él tenía un reino pero ―no aquí‖ toma un nuevo significado con la
visión cósmica de Daniel sirviendo de fondo, que nos permite vislumbrar al ―Anciano‖ en su trono
celestial.

Những lời được chọn của Sách Daniel được giới thiệu trong Bài đọc 1 hôm nay, đã là một phần trong dự tính
thêu dệt nên cái nhìn về kết quả tối hậu của người Do Thái dưới những khổ hình. Đúng hệt như người mà tác giả có
trong trí khi nói đến “Một Đấng là Con Thiên Chúa” đã bị ngược đãi bởi giới trí thức như còn tỏ tường cho đến hôm
nay. Sự thật đơn giản là chúng ta không biết tác giả muốn nói về một người được đặc biệt chọn để tượng trưng cho
hình ảnh khải hoàn của dân Do Thái. Những gì chúng ta được biết là Cộng đồng Kitô hữu trước đây đã nắm lấy đoạn
văn này và công nhận nó như một lời tiên tri, một tiên báo về kết cuộc khải hoàn của Chúa Giêsu, như là Đấng Kitô
của Thiên Chúa. Bài Đọc và Bài Tin Mừng hôm nay được đặt kề nhau diễn tả Chúa Giêsu trước quan Philatô là một

Christmas Novena Masses (also known as Simbang
Gabi) to welcome the advent season. The
Novena Masses will begin on Dec. 15 and ends

Our English teen RCIA classes have chosen to help
those in need with food, medicine, and shelter in whatever
country it is needed. To do this, they have made
gifts to give to anyone who will donate to their cause.
They will be at the parish on Sat. morning, Dec. 1 from
10 am to 11:30 am; Wed. afternoon, Dec. 5 from 5:45
to 6:15; and Sat. afternoon, Dec. 8 from 3:30 to 5 pm.
The donations collected will be sent to World Vision
for the specific purpose they have chosen. Please support
them.

El Grupo Belén
Estará presente durante la celebración de nuestra Señora
de Guadalupe, el 11 de Diciembre, 2012 y los invita a
acompañarlos a iniciar esta celebración con una serenata
a las 9 de la noche. También nos acompañará el
Cantante Christian Valdez.
De ser posible, se celebrará una Misa a las 12 am
(medianoche).
La Comuniad Fil-Am de Cristo Rey los invita a todos usetes a la
celebración anual de las nueve misas de la Novena de Navidad.

Tại sao có Năm Đức Tin?
Năm Đức Tin được đặt ra để kỷ niềm 50 năm khai mạc Công Đồng
Vatican II (1962-2012) và 20 Năm Công bố Sách Giáo Lý của Hội
Thánh Công Giáo (1992-1212). Đức Thánh Cha Bênedictô XVI
muốn “Đây là dịp giúp các tín hữu đào sâu đức tin, “nâng đỡ đức
tin của các tín hữu trong những khó khăn đời thường để họ không
ngừng hiến dâng cách can đảm và xác tín cuộc sống của mình cho

Lễ Chúa Kitô Vua : Quan Thầy Giáo Xứ
Lễ Chúa Kitô Vua, Quan Thầy Giáo Xứ, sẽ được mừng kính vào tuần tới
CN 25-11-2012. Để thể hiện tinh thần hiệp nhất giữa tất cả mọi người ,
chúng tôi kêu gọi quí ông bà anh chị em tham dự thánh lễ mà ngôn ngữ
không phải là của mình. Chúng ta sẽ chia sẻ công tác phụng vụ và dâng
Lời Nguyện Giáo Dân bằng ba ngôn ngữ. Nếu quí vị dự Lễ trong Thánh
Lễ quí vị vẫn thường tham dự, Xin nhớ rằng tất cả mọi người trong thánh
đường đếu là thừa tác viên ―của việc chào đón”. Xin vui lòng đón tiếp
những người khách lạ khác với niềm vui, và chấp nhận ngôn ngữ khác như
sự hiệp nhất của chúng ta.
Món Quà Tặng Cho Chúa Giêsu
Chương trình của chúng ta nhằm tặng quà cho các em dưới 13 tuổi.
Nếu bạn có thể tặng một món quà cho một em, Xin vui lòng lấy một
tấm thẻ trên bảng (ở sau cuối nhà thờ) ghi tên và số phôn của bạn
vào 1 mặt tấm thẻ đó, rồi mua một món quà trị giá $20.00 đô, Gói
quà lại, dán tấm thẻ đó trên món quà, rồi mang tới nhà thờ. Tất cả
mọi phần quà phải được đem lại trước ngày 10 tháng 12, 2012. Nếu
bạn thấy muốn tặng trên $20.00 đô tiền quà cho Chúa, xin lấy nhiều
tấm thẻ, và mua nhiều món qua để dán vào. Chúng tôi có rất nhiều
yêu cầu, và chúng tôi muốn rằng mỗi em sẽ nhận được một phần
dịp lễ này.
Đêm Thánh Nhạc Giáng Sinh
Trân trọng kính mời Quý Cụ, Quý Ông Bà và Anh Chị Em đến tham dự
buổi Thánh Nhạc Giáng Sinh “Đêm Hồng Ân” sẽ được tổ chức lần đầu
tiên tại Thánh Đường Giáo Xứ vào tối thứ Bảy, ngày 15 tháng 12, từ 8 giờ
đến 10 giờ tối. Cộng Đoàn cũng rất mong nhận được sự ủng hộ và khuyến
khích của các Mạnh Thường Quân để cho buổi TNGS “Đêm Hồng Ân”

TRUTH TO POWER
Today‘s Gospel reading shows
that Pontius Pilate, the local
governor of the powerful Roman
Empire, did not know
what to make of Jesus. Jesus
was obviously not a mob
leader or a con man. Jewish
leaders said he claimed to be
King of the Jews—a potential
threat to Roman rule— yet he
commanded no army. Jesus
said, ―My kingdom does not
belong to this world.‖ More
importantly, he added, ―I came
into the world, to testify to the
truth. Everyone who belongs
to the truth listens to my
voice‖ (John 18:36, 37). The
Gospels clearly show the political
maneuvering between
Roman rulers and Jewish religious
leaders; Jesus was a puzzle
to them all. Pilate ―found
no fault in him.‖ Jesus ruled
by neither violence nor oppression;
he simply witnessed to
God‘s truth. Anyone seeking
this truth has only to listen and
to respond to become part of
the kingdom of God.

ENFRENTA AL PODER
CON LA VERDAD
La lectura del Evangelio
de hoy demuestra que Poncio
Piloto, el gobernador local del
poderoso imperio romano, no
sabía qué pensar de Jesús. Obviamente
Jesús no era un líder de la
mafia ni un timador. Los líderes
judíos decían que él decía ser rey
de los judíos—una posible amenaza
al gobierno romano—pero
sin embargo no tenía la comandancia
de ningún ejército. ―Mi
Reino no es de este mundo‖, dijo
Jesús. Y añadió algo aún más
importante: ―Vine al mundo para
ser testigo de la verdad. Todo el
que es de la verdad, escucha mi
voz‖ (Juan 18:37). Los evangelios
muestran claramente la maniobra
política entre los soberanos
romanos y los líderes religiosos
judíos. Jesús representaba un
enigma para todos ellos. Pilato no
encontró ―delito alguno en este
hombre‖. Jesús no gobernaba con
violencia ni con opresión, sino
que sencillamente daba testimonio
de la verdad de Dios. Toda
persona que va en pos de esta
verdad sólo tiene que escuchar y
responder para llegar a ser parte
del reino de Dios.

Bài Tin Mừng hôm nay nói
lên rằng quan PhiLaTô, người cai
trị tại địa phương của Vương
Quyền Rôma đầy quyền uy, đã
không biết phải làm gì đối với
Chúa Giêsu, Chúa Giêsu rõ ràng
không phải thủ lãnh băng đảng
hay một học giả. Lãnh tụ dân Do
Thái nói rằng Ngài công bố là
vua dân Do Thái- một tiềm ẩn
cho sự đe doạ việc cai trị của
người Rôma, nhưng Ngài lại
không chỉ huy một quân đội nào
cả. Chúa Giêsu nói “Nước tôi
không thuộc về thế gian này‖
Quan trọng hơn, Ngài nói “Tôi
đến thế gian này để làm chứng
cho sự thật. Những ai đứng về
phía sự thật thì nghe tiếng
tôi‖ (Gioan18:36,37) Bài Tin
Mừng nêu rõ ràng về âm mưu
giữa quan chức Rôma và lãnh đạo
Tôn Giáo Do Thái. Chúa Giêsu
đã là sự bối rối cho họ. Philatô
―thấy Chúa Giêsu vô tội”. Chúa
Giêsu bị xử không vì bạo động
hay áp chế ai. Ngài chỉ giản dị
làm chứng cho chân lý của Chúa.
Những ai tìm kiếm chân lý thì
lắng nghe và đáp lại hầu trở nên
phần tử trong Vương quốc Thiên
Chúa.
