El objetivo es mostrar que las míticas imágenes de artistas
tan significativos como Warhol, Rauschenberg, Wesselmann,
Lichtenstein, Hockney, Hamilton o Equipo Crónica, entre otros
muchos, esconden un irónico y novedoso código de percepción
de la realidad, un código que aún sigue vigente en el arte de
nuestros días.
El Museo Reina Sofía presenta, por su parte, el trabajo del
artista británico Richard Hamilton. La exposición, que incluye
más de 250 obras, ofrece una mirada retrospectiva exhaustiva
del trabajo de una de las figuras clave del movimiento Pop Art
y uno de los artistas británicos más influyentes del siglo XX.
Esta muestra fue el último proyecto en el que Hamilton participó
directamente, e ilustra la variedad de técnicas, géneros y
temáticas que el artista empleó y a los que se aproximó a lo
largo de su carrera: desde fotografía, dibujo o grabado hasta
el diseño industrial, la publicidad o la manipulación digital de
imágenes; desde el retrato y el autorretrato y los interiores hasta
las indagaciones de carácter metalingüístico, sin dejar de lado
la crítica política.
Featuring more than 100 works ranging from pioneering British
Pop Art to the classic American version and its expansion into
Europe, the exhibition aims to trace the shared sources of
international Pop Art and to undertake a revision of the myths
that have traditionally defined the movement. It will reveal how
the legendary images created by artists of the stature of Warhol,
Rauschenberg, Wesselmann, Lichtenstein, Hockney, Hamilton
and Equipo Crónica, among many others, conceal an ironic and
innovative code of perception of reality and one that still prevails
in contemporary art today.
The Reina Sofía Museum introduces the work of British artist
Richard Hamilton. Including more than 250 works, this exhibition
offers a comprehensive retrospective look at the work of a key
figure in Pop Art and one of the most influential British artists of
the 20th century. The exhibition was the last project Hamilton
directly participated in and illustrates the variety of techniques,
genres and themes the artist employed and approached over
his career: from photography, drawing and prints, to industrial
design, advertising and the digital manipulation of images; from
portrait, self-portrait and interiors, to metalinguistic investigations
without leaving out political critique.
