La reserva El Boquerón está bastante cerca de la capital. Ubicada en el volcán de San Salvador
(Quetazaltepec), a aproximadamente 1,700 metros sobre el nivel del mar, es una atracción para turistas
nacionales y extranjeros. Recientemente, se ha establecido vigilancia permanente, se ha costruido un
parqueo y las zonas verdes reciben un buen mantenimiento.
En esta reserva se aprecian las diversas variedades de flores nativas, entre ellas las orquídeas, flores
terrestres exóticas y ornamentales, creciendo a la par de un denso bosque. Además de una amplia
variedad de flores, es fácil observar diferentes especies de aves, mamíferos y reptiles nativos de la zona.
Con una temperatura fresca que oscila entre 15 o C y 23 o C, el clima es muy agradable todo el día. El
visitante puede realizar caminatas por los senderos y bajar hasta el cráter del volcán, siempre y cuando,
vaya acompañado de un guía, ya que es peligroso por su escarpada topografía. Existen 5 miradores que
ofrecen diferentes vistas del cráter y la caminata alrededor de éste es de aproximadamente 5 kilómetros.
Esta reserva, establecida recientemente, conserva la particular diversidad de flora y fauna de las zonas más
altas de la cadena volcánica reciente y preserva muestras de los accidentes geográficos en el monumental
paisaje.
Este volcán ha permanecido dormido durante 93 años, desde la última vez que hizo erupción, el 7 de
junio de 1917. Cuentan los expertos vulcanólogos que se han registrado 3 erupciones en este volcán:
1658, 1671 y en 1917.
The natural reserve of El Boquerón is one of the most beautiful reserves in El Salvador, and extremely close
from San Salvador. Located in the San Salvador (Quetzaltepec) volcano, aproximately al 1700 meter above
sea level, is one of the best attractions to local and international tourists. Recently, permanent park rangers,
a protected parking lot and well kept gardens have been established.
In this reserve one may appreciate the different varieties of native flowers, such as orquids, terrestrial flowers
and exotic ornamentals, growing at the side of a dense forest. Apart from the wide variety of flowers, there
is a chance to see native birds, mammals and reptiles.
With a cool climate between oscillating between 15 o C y 23 o C, this reserve has a pleasant climate all day long.
The visitor can walk through trails and hike down to the crater, so long as a guide is there to accompany the
visitor as this is very dangerous because of the volcano’s broken topography and slippery terrain. Five trails
offer different views of the crater and the hike around it is five kilometers in length.
This reserve, recently established, conserves the particular diversity of fauna and flora found on the peaks of
the young volcanic range and preserves a sample of the geographic accidents in the monumental landscape.
This volcano has remained dormant for 93 years now since the last eruption in June, 7th 1917. According to
vulcanologists, 3 eruptions have been registered from this volcano: 1658, 1671 and in 1917.
