HIGH SUB WATERSHED
The high basin of the river has an area of 7,350
kms², and runs through the Province of Santa
Ana, Chalatenango, San Salvador, and La
Libertad, in El Salvador; Jutiapa and Chiquimula
in Guatemala, and Ocotepque in Honduras. This
is the most wooded landscape along the river,
the advantage of this fertility the most important
agricultural products are crops of plants and
vegetables and the production of coffee, honey
and some cereals. Most of the Prehispanic activity
took place in this area through the settlements of
the Nahuapipiles, who gave a increased activity
to the region before the Spanish would come in
