FOREWORD
El Salvador is an ideal space for the expansion of initiatives that find in sustainability the way towards development.
Those who bet on Land kindness, the landscape and the people will be the ones who succeed in making the wellbeing
a permanent condition in the future.
In Banco Agrícola we have always accompanied and recognized the effort and the industriousness of the Salvadoran
people, and in this edition of the Programa de Fomento Cultural, we present "El Salvador: a commitment towards
sustainability". We have gathered the efforts of entrepreneurs, communitarian associations, companies and institutions
that have succeed at setting in place sustainable development projects of great impact on the quality of life of
families, communities and their surroundings.
These efforts have managed to establish a relation between productive sectors, land, tradition, innovation and the
modernization, so that the improvement of the quality of human life, conservation of the nature, culture, tradition and
history are in the center of the economic development, to guarantee natural resources for our future generations.
Their experiences activate different processes: transference of knowledge, fair commerce, technological innovation,
conservation of the original surroundings and the use of each actor and surroundings own resources. These experiences
come from the very bottom, from the daily life of each actor, from their communities, from the entrepreneurs’
projection, from those who imagine, activate, and create safe and fair spaces to live.
Development is only sustainable when it dignifies and respects each of its actors: human beings and nature. The
experiences we have found in El Salvador have reached to consolidate new human and working relationships, in
which the links of trust are strengthen, leading into a more horizontal commerce relationships. This demonstrate that
it is possible, from this perspective, to stablish and execute a business model that will have a positive impact in the
families, the society, and the nation.
Banco Agrícola bets to impel models based on sustainable development principles, because they promote
horizontal relationships, they keep on with traditions, they enhance material renewal, techniques, spaces, and social
exchanges all while preserving the environment.
In the future we hope that human and economical capital will know how to live together to provide more human
development, productivity and to preserve the surroundings, so we can finally see a nation with ideas, projections,
and tangible transformations. A nation that will assure future generations will be able to live in sustainability, inspiring
inside them the desire to take advantage of their talent to keep on with the procedures aiming harmony with nature.
This book presents the efforts that day after day improve the conditions of the surroundings in which we live thanks to
Salvadoran entrepreneurs everywhere in the country. As they create in the balance between human life, development
and natural resources, thus in Banco Agrícola we think of the importance of recognizing and honoring any of these
exemplary initiatives that aim to inherit a better place to live.
