Jornada de Clubes
El pasados 20 de diciembre, se celebró una
jornada de clubes en el centro de Humboldt.
Como todos los años, los alumnos de 2º de
Bachillerato somos los encargados de los
distintos clubes, y organizamos este evento junto
a los profesores. En él participaron los alumnos
de Bachillerato y la ESO, así que por un día, 1º, 2º
y 3º tuvieron la oportunidad de venir a
Humboldt.
Entre los co-presidentes y vicepresidentes
propusimos las ideas a la dirección del colegio,
que nos consiguió los materiales. Los delegados,
alumnos de 3º ESO, fueron los responsables de
informar al resto de compañeros del centro de
Bandama.
Como presidenta del club de Arte y Drama, mi
co-presidenta Miriam y yo realizamos un
concurso de dibujo, en el que los alumnos
tuvieron 45 minutos para dibujar algo
premio, como en las demás actividades.
Por otro lado, también hubo una recogida de
libros y material escolar usado, charlas de
sostenibilidad del medio ambiente, talleres de
ciencia, y concursos de baile, entre otros.
El viernes 21 tuvo lugar la jornada del club de
Deportes, en la que hubo partidos de fútbol y
baloncesto. Los alumnos de 4º de la ESO y
Bachillerato hicieron equipos y jugaron hasta que
hubiera un ganador.
En general, todos los clubes tuvieron una gran
acogida por parte de los alumnos, quienes
mostraron su interés por cada asignatura, ya que
algunas actividades están relacionadas con el
temario que estudiamos en el colegio. Los
presidentes estamos muy satisfechos de que les
gustara este día tan diferente a los demás.

Una experiencia inolvidable
Los pasados meses de diciembre de 2018 y enero
de 2019, los alumnos de 1° de la ESO pasamos
una tarde en la Residencia de Ancianos Nuestra
Señora del Pino, localizada en Tafira baja.
Después de terminar la jornada lectiva, acudimos
con mucha ilusión al hogar de ancianos para
pasar la tarde con ellos realizando unas
actividades de pintura.
Después de merendar, nos dividimos en dos
grupos para organizar las manualidades tanto en
la sala de señoras como en la de señores.
Contamos con la ayuda de una trabajadora social
de la residencia para ir a buscar a los diferentes
ancianos a otras salas y así, pudieran participar
de nuestras actividades. En esta ocasión,
consistía en pintar y adornar unos corazones de
corcho de diferentes tamaños.
Mientras algunos ancianos/as pintaban sus
dibujos, nosotros los íbamos ayudando o
aconsejando sobre el color, la decoración… A la
vez, muchos residentes nos contaban de dónde
eran y cuáles habían sido sus experiencias de la
vida. Al finalizar los corazones, nos hicimos una
foto grupal en la que no solo estábamos nosotros
y los residentes, sino algunos de sus familiares
que comentaron que había sido una tarde
entrañable.
Muy pronto se hizo la hora de regresar a casa; sin
embargo, nos fuimos con una gran sonrisa y la
satisfacción de haber pasado una tarde diferente
junto a personas mayores con las que pudimos
compartir una experiencia inolvidable.

The Volunteering
On January, the 14th the students of 1ºC and part
of 1ºB attended the Nuestra Señora del Pino
Nursing home in Tafira. We arrived there at 16:20
and left at 17:20.
At 16:00 a bus came to the school to take us to
the nursing home. Once we had arrived there, we
ate a snack and then we divided into 2 small
groups, one of them went to the men's room
with Miss Mary and the other group went to the
women's room with Miss Davinia. They
monitored us explaining what we needed to do.
Each group took part in the same activity, they
painted and decorated cork hearts for St
Valentine's day. The school provided us with all
the materials needed for the activity: paint, cork
hearts, glitter…We helped the elderly to make
the hearts gorgeous and pretty.
Although not everyone wanted to make one we
had lots of people we needed to help. First we
painted the hearts with one or more colours.
After we decorate them with glitter, stickers or
letters. The last step was waiting for them to dry
up. The hearts were a present, which meant the
elderly could give them to people they loved or
keep them.
When we finished we helped to clean up the
place were we did this activity and organized all
the stuff we used.
We had a great time helping others and making
them happy and personally we will like to go
there again and enjoy a little bit more of time
with the elderly.

Colaborar como máxima
A comienzos del mes de diciembre, en los centros
de Bandama y Humboldt, se inició una recolecta
de Productos de Higiene personal y Limpieza,
para su futura donación al Asilo de Nuestra
Señora del Pino.
Hasta el 13 de diciembre se recogieron los
productos, y se fueron ordenando en cajas para
su transporte al asilo. El 17 de diciembre se
realizó la entrega de los productos y se celebró un
acto donde los ancianos nos recibieron, muy
alegremente, en la entrada del centro. Además,
pudimos hacernos fotografías con los residentes,
algunas de las hermanitas y nuestra donación.
La alta participación de los alumnos y sus familias
permitió que el número de cajas donadas fuera
elevado, algo que agradecieron tanto los
ancianos como la Madre Superiora responsable
del asilo, que nos obsequió con un calendario que
habían elaborado en el centro. A pesar del gran
peso de las cajas, conseguimos con ayuda
cargarlas hasta una sala donde se almacenaron
para su distribución entre los residentes y uso en
el futuro.
Una vez concluido el acto, las hermanas nos
ofrecieron comida y bebida como muestra de
agradecimiento por la donación y la ayuda a la
hora de transportar las cajas.
Tercera Edad de Tafira.
Por otro lado, en los centros de Columbus,
Dickens y Newton, la semanas previas a las
vacaciones de Navidad, se llevó a cabo una
recogida de alimentos que iban destinados a
Cáritas. Los alumnos de estos centros de Primaria
del Colegio Hispano Inglés colaboraron no sólo
trayendo una gran cantidad de alimentos, sino
organizándolos junto a sus profesores en cajas.
El 20 de diciembre, en un pequeño, pero emotivo
acto, todos los alumnos formaron una cadena
humana para transportar esas cajas cargadas con
los alimentos hasta el furgón de la ONG Cáritas
que pasó por cada uno de los tres centros.
También para nuestros compañeros de
Educación Primaria, el poder participar en este
tipo de actividades ha sido una gran experiencia
y satisfacción al ver cómo con una pequeña
aportación, por parte de cada uno de ellos, ha
sido suficiente para ayudar a unas Instituciones
relevantes.
Sólo nos queda agradecer a todas las familias que
forman la comunidad del Colegio Hispano Inglés
por colaborar en las iniciativas del Club de
Solidaridad.
El poder participar en dicha actividad ha sido una
gran experiencia y una gran satisfacción al ver
que el pequeño aporte de cada alumno y de su
familia ha sido suficiente para ayudar a una
asociación tan grande como es la Residencia de la

Our motto: to cooperate
From the beginning of December, a gathering of
hygiene and cleaning products, such as
shampoos, body gels or deodorants, was
initiated in both Bandama and Humboldt. These
were donated to the nursing home named, Asilo
de nuestra señora del Pino.
Until the 13th of December those products were
collected and organized into boxes for their
future transport to the centre. On December 17th
an act was celebrated where the elderly
welcomed us, very happily, in the entrance hall.
During this act, pictures were taken of us with the
residents, and with the boxes donated.
On the other hand, in Columbus, Dickens and
Newton´s centers, the previous weeks to
was destinated to Cáritas was carried out. Pupils
from these centers of Primary School of the
Colegio Hispano Inglés collaborated not only by
bringing a big amant of food, but also by
organising then in boxes together with their
teachers.

APRENDEMOS AGRICULTURA ECOLÓGICA
El club de Sostenibilidad y Ciencias está
coordinado en el centro de Bandama por los
alumnos Diego Wood, Emilio Sosa, Javier García y
Pablo Rodríguez, todos alumnos de 3º ESO.
Nuestras funciones como coordinadores se basan
en la organización de las diferentes actividades
propuestas en el club, así como en la supervisión
de las mismas durante todo el curso.
Una de nuestras actividades estrella es El Huerto
Escolar. Varios días a la semana nos reunimos
todos los miembros del club de 1º, 2º y 3º ESO
para organizar el mantenimiento y cuidado de
nuestro huerto; distribuimos diferentes turnos
para quitar las malas hierbas, preparar la tierra,
cultivar las semillas, regar y, por supuesto,
recoger la cosecha de lo que hemos plantado a lo
largo del año. En todo este proceso, aprendemos
a cultivar de manera ecológica siempre teniendo
en cuenta el cuidado de nuestro entorno natural
y que, además, sea lo más saludable para nuestra
salud.
Este curso hemos plantado hortalizas, verduras,
tubérculos y frutas, entre los que tenemos
tomates, pimientos del padrón, papas, fresas,
millo y lechugas. Además, contamos con un
níspero cuyos frutos recogemos con esmero
cuando maduran.
Una vez que todo lo que hemos plantado ha
crecido y madurado, se recoge y se reparte entre
todos los miembros del club que hemos
trabajado en el huerto.
Este tipo de actividades nos aporta un
aprendizaje diferente que va más allá de los
libros; nos enseña a valorar el trabajo en equipo y
sobre todo a ser conscientes de lo importante que
es cuidar nuestro entorno natural.

“Our piece of land”
The Sustainability and Science club in Bandama,
is currently directed and coordinated by Diego
Wood 3ºA, Emilio Sosa and Javier G. Alzola 3ºB
and Pablo 3ºC. The teacher in charge of
supervising the activities of our club and the
person in charge of reviewing the behavior of its
members is Mr. Manuel. The coordinators must
be in charge of maintaining order in the club in
the absence of Mr. Manuel. The club meets every
Monday to talk about the development of the
club activities.
The clubs activities are based primarily on the
maintenance and care of El Huerto. Every
Monday, Wednesday and Friday the members of
the Sustainability and Science club meet to take
care of the crops that we have planted
throughout the year. El Huerto is located behind
the porch next to the library, in the main
courtyard.
Currently we have vegetables, tubers and fruits
planted in El Huerto, among which we have
tomatoes, padrón peppers, potatoes,
strawberries, millet and lettuce. We also have a
medlar whose medlars we collect with care when
they mature.
As for the activities, in El Huerto, the plants are
irrigated, the weeds are pulled around them and
when possible, they are collected and distributed
to each member, depending on their
contribution towards the project.
To end, the Sustainability and Science Club is a
place where students of all courses come to work
to take care of the plants and above all, to have
fun.

Huerto Escolar
En el centro de Humboldt una de las actividades
más significativas del club de sostenibilidad y
desarrollo es el mantenimiento del huerto
escolar. Se trata de un espacio diseñado para el
cultivo de distintas frutas y verduras, siendo las
cebollas y las patatas los principales cultivos este
año.
El huerto es una estupenda oportunidad de
promover una conciencia de cuidado y respeto
por el medio ambiente, ya que no se hace uso de
pesticidas ni de fertilizantes. En su lugar
empleamos abonos naturales como las malas
hierbas del propio huerto, promoviendo una
formación medioambiental y ecológica. Gracias a
ello mejoramos nuestra actitud y conocimientos
respecto a la agricultura.
Además el huerto ecológico favorece una
alimentación saludable y equilibrada.
Aprendemos sobre los alimentos que cultivamos,
cosechamos y recogemos promoviendo unos
hábitos que mejoran nuestra salud y
alimentación. Esta educación nutricional y
ambiental también nos ayuda a conocer los
productos autóctonos e identificar aquellos que
son propios de la época.
Por otra parte esta actividad promueve la
cooperación y el trabajo en equipo entre los
estudiantes, además de tratarse de un recurso
didáctico que complementa nuestra educación
fuera del aula.
Esta iniciativa aporta a los alumnos unos valores
como la cooperación y el respeto,
imprescindibles en la vida. Por ello, queremos
que esta actividad continúe para que los alumnos
puedan seguir manteniendo un contacto directo
con la naturaleza.

SCHOOL GARDEN
The Colegio Hispano Inglés is known for being
located in a rural area. Therefore, it is a perfect
spot for the inclusion of an orchard, in which
students of different age groups come together
to work hand in hand, to produce a vast variety of
crops.
Presided by the 2º BACH student, Héctor Wood
Santana and Carla Fernández Martín, this club is
designed to teach students to grow entire
plantations of crop species under the right
conditions and to cooperate while performing
different agricultural tasks. Among the wide
range of species growing in our school garden,
we encounter crops such as peppers, potatoes,
onions, maizes, etc. Furthermore, the school
provides us with useful tools to treat the soil and
take care of the plants. These include: hoes,
pickaxes, rakes, etc.
In addition, this break from the daily school
routine enables students to get rid of the stress
accumulated during the school year, due to
exams, projects, homework, and other time
consuming assignments, by partaking in the
satisfying labor of agriculture.

Mujer y ciencia
En el último año, el Club de Sostenibilidad junto
con el de Ciencias ha llevado a cabo una serie de
actividades colectivas para así lograr que todos
los alumnos se impliquen y sean aún mas
conscientes de diversos problemas que han
tenido las mujeres a lo largo de la historia y que,
hoy en día, muchas siguen teniendo.
Entre las actividades consta la creación de dos
murales, uno de ellos para el día de la mujer, el
día 8 de marzo, y el otro para el día de la mujer
de febrero. Ambos murales fueron en primera
instancia diseñados por los alumnos de segundo
de Bachillerato que pertenecen a estos clubes;
más adelante, estos junto con la ayuda de los
alumnos de primero y de cuarto de la ESO los
completaron, dibujando, pintando y lo que es
más importante, adquiriendo conocimiento
sobre la historia de la mujer, cómo han logrado
avanzar socialmente y cómo podemos poner
nuestro granito de arena para así lograr igualdad
y el bien común en la sociedad.

Women & Science
This year, the sustainability and science club,
along with other students, carried out a series of
activities on the occasion of International
Women´s Day and the International Women and
Girls in Science Day, celebrated on the 8th March
and 11th February respectively.
The previous week of both days, the students of
2nd of Bachillerato designed a mural which was
then painted by the students of 4th of ESO and
1st of Bachillerato. The murals included quotes
by female scientists who also happened to be
feminist activists, such as Rosalind Franklin,
Marie Curie and Ada Lovelace. We also wrote
eye-opening facts regarding women´s rights in
order to illustrate society´s gender inequality. In
addition to that, one of our teachers did a
presentation on the progress of feminism and its
current situation to try to get us involved in this
movement towards equality.
These days were not so much of a celebration for
us, but a chance to educate our fellow students
on the current injustices regarding gender.
Furthermore, it turned out to be a positive
experience as both male and female students
worked together to carry out this project.

Liga nacional de debate
El día 13 de diciembre cinco alumnas de cuarto de
la ESO: Sara Bolaños, Claudia Rodríguez, Martina
López, Noelia Cabrera y yo, Andrea Pérez;
volamos a Madrid para asistir a la Liga Nacional
de Debate celebrada en las instalaciones del
colegio Montpellier. Allí debatimos durante dos
días ateniéndonos a la siguiente pregunta;
¿Debería cambiarse el actual modelo de
pensiones español basado en el método de
reparto por uno de capitalización?
Al principio, cuando recibimos la pregunta, nos
pareció bastante complicada ya que la mayoría
de nosotras no habíamos tratado nunca ese
tema; sin embargo, después de prepararlo
durante todo un mes, ya estábamos lo bastante
familiarizadas con el tema como para poder
debatir sobre él. Planificar los dos discursos tanto
a favor como en contra de la cuestión planteada
fue bastante complicado, ya que había que tener
muchos aspectos económicos en cuenta para
poder hablar firmemente sobre los sistemas de
pensiones.
El primer día, debatimos tres veces, el primer y
tercer debate no nos salieron tan bien, ya que
nuestras oponentes tenían una gran experiencia
debatiendo, sin embargo, el debate restante si
que nos salió mejor. Los jueces nos dieron un
feedback muy constructivo, y nos dijeron los
puntos a mejorar tanto comunicativamente
como de nuestro discurso. Por lo tanto, aquella
noche, decidimos pulir nuestros puntos débiles
del discurso y mejorar varias cosas para los
debates del próximo día.
Al día siguiente, debatimos dos veces más y nos
dieron los resultados de todos los debates. No
obtuvimos los esperados, y en consecuencia, no
conseguimos pasar a la siguiente fase. Sin
embargo, nos fuimos satisfechas con el trabajo
que habíamos realizado. El resto del día
decidimos pasarlo visitando Madrid: fuimos a la
Puerta del Sol, al Palacio Real y a Plaza Mayor;
comimos y nos tomamos un chocolate caliente.
Luego, recogimos el equipaje en el hotel y nos
dirigimos al aeropuerto para volver a Gran
Canaria.
Nos pareció una experiencia muy enriquecedora
para mejorar nuestras habilidades y a pesar de
los resultados nos lo pasamos en grande
trabajando en equipo y conociendo a otros
alumnos interesados en debatir que provenían
de diversos colegios de España.

Debate article
On 13th December 2018, five students from
4ºESO travelled to Madrid in order to take part in
a national debate tournament: Sara Bolaños,
Noelia Cabrera, Andrea Pérez, Claudia Rodríguez
and me, Martina López. We went together with
two teachers, Miss Silvia and Miss Jasmina, who
helped us to prepare ourselves for the
competition. This year, the question in particular
was the following: Should the current Spanish
pension system, based on the pay-as-you-go
method, be changed to a funded one?
This topic, which is very controversial nowadays,
affects the Spanish population as a whole. It was
quite a complex issue, as we were not conscious
of the economic problems in our country, until
we started researching. Eventually, with weeks
of intensive work, we managed to understand
the field totally, being therefore able to express
our points of view supported with evidences,
which was the main idea of the tournament.
The event consisted of different phases, and took
place in a school on the outskirts of the city,
where the 20 participant schools met. On 14th,
we debated three times, separated by a snack
and a rest with the rest of candidates, where we
had the chance to socialize with them and make
new friends, aged from 13 to 17. That night, we
returned to the hotel very nervous, as the
following day awaited, and it was when we
would have the last debate, which was decisive.
On 15th, we all woke up ready for our last
attempt, knowing it would be a harsh go. Even
though the result was not as high as we had
expected, we had an absolutely great time
together. As we would not have to take part in
any debates anymore, we spent the day in the
centre of Madrid, visiting cultural monuments
and having a walk around the capital, now
relaxed and happy for having the chance to be
there. We then arrived at the airport, slightly sad
to leave this city, but delighted to spend time
back with our families in Gran Canaria.
Overall, this has been a terrific experience,
thanks to not only having got to know more
about our national concerns, but also having
enjoyed ourselves as much as we could possibly
have done. This journey has definitely been
worth it, and we are so grateful we have had the
opportunity to appreciate it personally.

Fernando J. López visita Bandama Country
El pasado 14 de marzo Fernando J. López, autor
del libro Las Tres Lunas, visitó el centro de
Bandama y los alumnos de 1º ESO tuvimos la
oportunidad de compartir con él una agradable
charla.
La idea primigenia de esta obra, según nos contó,
fue ayudar a una de sus alumnas que pasaba por
un momento delicado al fallecer su madre. Esta
chica, una vez que leyó el libró, lo animó a
publicarlo. Actualmente, se ha convertido en uno
de sus libros más vendidos.
Fernando J. López, durante varios años,
compaginó su tarea de escritor con la de profesor,
profesión que le sigue fascinando y por la que
siente un gran respeto; puesto que fueron dos
profesores suyos los que lo ayudaron a escoger el
camino adecuado y a superar sus inseguridades,
generadas por su timidez.
Para nosotros, su visita ha sido una experiencia
única. El autor se mostró muy receptivo a la hora
de contestar a todas nuestras cuestiones. Sin
lugar a dudas, ha supuesto una forma diferente
de acercarnos a la literatura, lo hemos hecho a
través de las palabras de uno de los autores
actuales más relevantes de las letras hispánicas.

Loving letters…
On Thursday, the 14th of March, Fernando J.
López, who was a famous writer, visited our
school to give us an entertaining and funny talk
about his books and how he became a writer. We
knew him before because his book, “El Reino de
las tres Lunas”, was in the reading list for 1st of
ESO.
He told us that he had also written theatre plays,
and apart from writing for children, he also
writes for adults.
Fernando told us that previously he was a teacher
and to write his well-known book: ”El Reino de
las tres Lunas”, he was inspired by the life of a
student, who lost her mother when she was 15
years old. Our visitor also told us that he started
writing because at school, when he was a
teenager, he had a teacher who chose a story
written by him to give a dictation to the class, so
his teacher encouraged him to keep writing.
When our invited writer finished the talk, he
allowed us to ask him questions about his
profession and signed autographs.
We liked the talk very much because it was very
interesting and he encouraged us to love letters
and to write.

A BANDAMA !!
El pasado 31 de octubre, celebramos la jornada
de Halloween en el centro de Bandama Country.
Se realizaron distintas actividades y los alumnos
de todos los cursos pudimos disfrutar de un día
lleno de diversión.
El día comenzó con el baile que habíamos
organizado las alumnas de 3ESO del club de
música y baile. Luego, tuvo lugar el concurso de
talentos, en el que participaron varios alumnos
de diferentes cursos; los jueces tuvieron muy
difícil escoger al ganador, ya que todos los
participantes lo hicieron muy bien. Nada más
acabar el concurso de talentos, empezó el
concurso de disfraces, donde más compañeros se
animaron a participar; y por lo tanto, el más
divertido.
Más tarde empezaron los torneos de baloncesto,
fútbol, brillé y voleibol organizados por el club de
deportes. Al mismo tiempo, tuvieron lugar otras
actividades como la yincana, que consistía en
buscar distintas pistas que estaban escondidas
por el centro y resolver acertijos para poder ganar
puntos. Por otro lado, se desarrollaba el concurso
de maquillaje en la que varias parejas tenían que
intentar adivinar el villano que, previamente, le
había pintado a su compañero en la cara.
Después de comer, los alumnos del centro
tuvimos tiempo libre para bailar o jugar en el
patio hasta que llegó la hora de anunciar los
ganadores de todas las actividades. Los
representantes de los clubes repartieron los tan
merecidos premios a los alumnos.
La jornada estuvo muy entretenida para todos
nosotros, ya que la diversidad de actividades nos
mantuvo activos todo el día. Sin duda alguna,
una jornada para repetir.

halloween
Last 31st of October 2018, in Bandama country,
the students from the Colegio Hispano Ingles,
celebrated Halloween. We decorated the school
with handmade crafts such as bats, witch hats,
pumpkins, etc.
The day started off at 9:45a.m. when everyone
started changing into their costumes they had
prepared. This year, the costumes where
creative, innovative and surprising, for example,
the Joker and glam looking skeletons. Our first
activity, was the motivating dance which was
prepared by the dance club in only 3 weeks!
Then, to show off everyone´s costume, we
performed a costume contest where students
made some dance moves and enjoyed
themselves. Afterwards, we carried out a talent
show, even though it turned out to be more of
the Voice program, being that all participants
showed their beautiful and amazing voices.
After a short break, the sport tournaments
started, which consisted of various matches such
as; football, where many teams of six competed
with each other, basketball, where students
where well prepared and did as much as possible,
brille, which is a game like dodgeball and lastly
volleyball which was a new sport students
learned this year.
Meanwhile, other activities where taking place
such as; the makeup game where people painted
themselves as scary as possible and there were
actually some successful outcomes! Also, a
gimkana, which consists of many stations with
different tasks where students need to achieve
them to get to the next level.
To sum up, it was a brilliant experience for all of
us, students and teachers, and we hope this
tradition keeps on going for as long as possible!

DISFRAZ Y
ENTRA EN EL
CARNAVAL!!
El pasado viernes 1 de marzo, los alumnos del
centro de Bandama celebramos una jornada de
carnaval donde realizamos una serie de
actividades, entre ellas: concurso de disfraces ,
torneos de fútbol , baloncesto , voleybol,
concurso de talentos... Todas fueron preparadas y
organizadas por los distintos clubes y sus
representantes con la finalidad de tener un día
entretenido y distinto a los demás. Se
desarrollaron entre las 11:15 y las 15:00.
En el concurso de talentos, donde participaron
muchísimos compañeros, cantando o tocando
algún tipo de instrumento, fue el que dio paso a
una jornada muy diferente a las habituales en el
centro. A continuación, el club de baile nos
demostró la asombrosa habilidad de las chicas
que participaron. Por otro lado, los alumnos
trajeron una gran variedad de disfraces y muchos
de nosotros nos apuntamos al concurso. Los
ganadores solo fueron tres, pero hubo una gran
diversidad y fue muy difícil escoger a los
ganadores. Luego, empezaron las actividades
más deportivas; en el torneo de baloncesto, se
disputaron partidos muy reñidos e igualados,
pero uno de los equipos de tercero fue el ganador
debido a la superioridad en altura. El torneo de
fútbol la ganó un equipo de segundo por su gran
empaño y su gran esfuerzo. El torneo de voleibol
lo ganó un equipo mixto de alumnos de primero
y de tercero.
En el menú de ese día, también pudimos
degustar una tortitas de carnaval con miel algo
muy típico en los hogares canarios por estas
fechas. Después del almuerzo, se hizo entrega de
los diferentes premios para los participantes en
los concursos y torneos.
Vivimos la jornada como un día donde las risas, la
fiesta y la diversión fue la tónica que predominó.
Asimismo, ese día, también pusimos en valor
actitudes como las del compañerismo , la
competitividad y el respeto . Los concursos de
talentos y de disfraces aparte de servir para
pasarlo bien, nos sirvieron para perder la
vergüenza a estar delante de un público
numeroso . Al igual que los torneos fueron útiles
para promover la deportividad y dar la
oportunidad a los alumnos de socializar y conocer
más al resto de sus compañeros. Sin duda, una
jornada inolvidable.

Carnival day
On the first of March 2019, the carnival party was
held in Bandama Country. Everyone was excited
for the party, all the students came with their
fancy dress costumes inside their school bag,
ready to show them off. The school was full of
posters for the different activities and there were
also some cheerful decorations to lighten up the
day.
At 10 o’clock people started dressing up. There
were costumes of all shapes and colours, from
animal-shaped pijamas to complex transformer
costumes. The first activity was a brief talent
show where second year students played the
piano and a cello, and a third year student sang
“Lágrimas desordenadas”. After that, the dance
club presented their very elaborate dance,
expressing the happiness of this party. Once the
dance came to an end the fancy dress contest
began. The most impacting costumes included
dinosaurs, transformers, red bull dresses and
bath sponge costumes. When this finished,
people went to play or watch the different sport
tournaments, which included, volleyball,
football, basketball and dodge ball. While these
were being held, the film club put on the movie
"The kissing Booth". After a short break for lunch
the activities continued until three o’clock. At this
time, the awards for the sport tournaments, the
talent and fancy dresses contest were given out.
At the end of the day everyone was happy and
the third year students ended up proud of the
work they had done by organising the party. All
of us had fun and everyone would definitely
want to repeat it.

Desde el club de música y baile, a lo largo de este
curso escolar, hemos realizado múltiples
actividades para los días especiales de Carnaval,
Halloween, Navidad… Previamente a estas
jornadas especiales, los miembros de este club
preparamos y ensayamos las distintas
coreografías para asegurarnos de que el evento
que salga bien.
Todos los alumnos, indistintamente de
pertenecer o no al club, podemos participar en
estas actividades; por ejemplo, con la
participación en el Just Dance, organizado en
Navidad, tuvo mucho éxito entre todos nosotros;
pasamos un buen rato juntos y no sentimos
¡A bailar!
vergüenza al bailar. A través del concurso de
talentos, otros compañeros exponen al resto sus
habilidades: humor, cantar, tocar un
instrumento…
Con actividades como estas, los alumnos y
alumnas podemos desarrollar nuestra faceta más
personal y cultural, además de compartir
momentos agradables y distendidos.

Music & Dance
In music and dance club, we do choreographies
for special days like Halloween, Christmas and
Carnival. One month before the parties we
started practicing the choreographies in the
breakfast playground at 11:15 next to the
teacher’s room. On the day of the parties, we
present it in front of all the students of the school
and the teachers. Before practicing with the
music, we learn the dance moves step by step.
At Halloween, we performed the first
choreography of the year. The delegates of the
dance club gave us a paper to enter the club.
Even though at first we were just few girls, by the
end, many people lost their embarrassment and
joined the club.
At Christmas, as we didn´t have much time, we
only did a Just Dance tournament. It was
organized in a classroom where we danced to
songs everybody knows.
For Carnival, we did another dance in front of the
whole school. It was different from the other one
because this song was a mix. Another difference
was that despite the short amount of time we
had to practice, it was one of the best ones.
In conclusion, we liked the experience a lot and
we would repeat it. At first, we had a lot of
embarrassment as we didn´t know anyone.
However, by the end, we all became friends and
we lost our embarrassment completely.

Brillante actuación del cuarteto de saxofones
“Clair Obscur“ acompañado al piano por Elisaveta
Blumina que congregó a padres, alumnos y
profesores en el Pérez Galdós.
Extraordinario cierre de temporada con la
participación del cuarteto de saxofones “Clair
Obscur", acompañado al piano por Elisaveta
Blumina, intérprete con excelentes dotes
comunicativas. Con el programa ofrecido se dio
un paso más en el homenaje al compositor
norteamericano Leonard Bernstein en su
centenario, escuchándose dos de sus obras más
notables: tres episodios de danza de "On the
town" y una suite de "West side story".
La velada transcurrida en la tarde del 13 de junio
nos deparó la sorpresa de dos partituras de tinte
norteamericano de Igor Stravinsky y Dmitri
Shostakovich a cargo del Cuarteto Clair Obscur
que, fundado hace quince años, consiguió su
objetivo: la máxima expresividad. Elisaveta
Blumina interpretó al piano la interesantísima
pieza "Black earth" del músico turco Fazil Say,
cerrándose el concierto con una espectacular
"Rapsodia in blue" de George Gershwin. El
programa contó con un texto de presentación de
Sebastián León, que situó muy bien al espectador
de cara a las obras interpretadas.
Como actividad disciplinar y de refuerzo a la
enseñanza musical adquirida en las aulas,
alumnos y alumnas de ESO y bachillerato del
Colegio Hispano Inglés de Las Palmas, asisten
regularmente en unión de sus padres, a los
conciertos que cada temporada programa la
Sociedad Filarmónica en virtud de un convenio
de colaboración para el fomento de la cultura
musical de los jóvenes estudiantes.

El pasado martes 4 de diciembre de 2018, los
alumnos de Bandama Country tuvimos la
oportunidad de asistir a un concierto en el Teatro
Pérez Galdós. Estuvo, especialmente, dirigido a
los alumnos de 2º de la ESO, ya que nuestra
asistencia se encuadraba dentro del contenido de
la asignatura de música.
La orquesta de cámara que actuaba, Sonor
Ensemble, estaba formada por siete
profesionales de gran experiencia y dirigida por
Luis Aguirre. Ofrecieron un programa muy
atractivo, con obras que abarcaron desde
Boccherini, pasando por las del cubano
Morales-Caso, Shostakovich, turina, Halffter,
hasta terminar con La danza ritual del fuego de
Manuel de Falla.
Sonor Ensemble
gran ovación y aplausos. Los músicos y su director
mostraron, ante esta repuesta, gratitud y
decidieron hacer una actuación más, que no se
incluía en el programa inicial, en este caso
tocaron Granada de Albeniz.
Al concluir, cuatro compañeros de 2º ESO
realizamos la entrega de unos ramos de flores a
cada uno de los intérpretes como muestra de
agradecimiento. Además de poder compartir
unas palabras con ellos en la zona de camerinos.
Sin lugar a dudas, fue un concierto espectacular
en cuanto a contenido e interpretación. Estas
actividades programadas por el Colegio suponen
una oportunidad de reforzar la cultura musical
desarrollada en las aulas.
Un concierto que duró una dos horas,
aproximadamente, y que generó una gran
expectación y agrado entre el público asistente
que, tras cada pieza, mostraba su agrado con una

School Concert
On Tuesday 4th of December a concert took place
at the Theatre Perez Galdos. Our school; Colegio
Hispano Ingles gave tickets to whoever wanted
them. It was at 8 o'clock at night. We were very
tired, but we wanted to go. Four of the students
decided to surprise the musicians: at the end they
gave them a bunch of flowers.
There were 9 musicians. Jesus Angel Leon played
the violin, as well as Luminita Nenita; Virginia
Aparicio played the viola, Jose Maria Mañero
played the cello, Laura Asensio the double bass,
Sebastian Mariné the piano and Luis Aguirre was
the conductor.
They played in two parts: in the first part they
played the songs from Luigi Boccherini, Eduardo
Morales Caso and Dimitri Shostakovich. And in
the second part the songs from Joaquin Turina,
Ernesto Halffter, Jesus Angel Leon and Manuel de
Falla.
The students that that gave the flowers were
Elena Santana, Olga Lopez and ourselves:
Bernardino Clavo and Elena Pizarro. When the
musicians finished, we went backstage to
prepare. We knew that we could not mess it up,
so we were very nervous. But we finally did it, we
went out, gave them the flowers and ran from
the stage.
It was a great experience and we would do it
again.

Las vacaciones de verano ya estaban muy cerca. A
finales de curso, el 12 de junio, los alumnos de
primero de bachillerato acudimos a una jornada
lúdica y diferente, a las afueras del centro de
Humboldt. Ya habíamos acabado todos los
exámenes IGCSE, junto al Advanced de ingles y
exámenes de curriculum español. Como
recompensa de un gran curso de primero de
bachillerato y para romper con la rutina del largo
curso escolar, disfrutamos de un día en la playa
de Anfi del Mar. Con nuestro picnic y
acompañados del profesorado, llegamos
temprano para poder aprovechar el día el mayor
tiempo posible.
Hasta las tres de la tarde, pudimos realizar
actividades varias. En primer lugar, nos
acomodamos en la playa, situándonos al final de
la misma donde dejamos todas las mochilas y
toallas. Antes de comenzar todas las actividades,
tuvimos una charla de seguridad y uso de los
aparatos durante las actividades para evitar
cualquier incidente. Aprovecharon, también,
para organizarnos en distintos grupos para un
mejor funcionamiento de las actividades.
Como no podía faltar, después de la charla, todos
tuvimos la oportunidad de dar una vuelta en la
famosa banana, como primera actividad.
Después de ello, se dividió el curso en tres grupos:
los del paddlesurf, los de los kayaks y los de los
patines de agua. Los monitores se encargaron de
ayudarnos a mejorar nuestra técnica y cogerle el
truquillo a aquellas actividades más costosas
como el paddlesurf. Durante el resto de la
mañana, hasta la hora de comer, nos estuvimos
rotando entre las diferentes modalidades
acuáticas. Hicimos carreras de kayaks hasta unas
boyas lejanas, deslices por los hidropedales e
incluso, concursos de equilibrio en las inestables
tablas de paddlesurf. Al mediodía, después de
las actividades acuáticas, llego el momento de
descanso y comida. Ocupando gran parte de la
playa, extendimos las toallas para coger sol y
comer tranquilamente nuestro picnic, junto
alguna que otra chocolatina, bolsa de papas fritas
o helados.
Dejando de lado todas las actividades deportivas,
disfrutamos de un tiempo de tranquilidad
pre-verano, tumbados en las toallas al sol o
dándonos un baño en la cálida agua del sur.
Tanto alumnos como profesores aprovechamos y
pasamos un día increíble en la playa, una jornada
más distendida cuyo fin era de disfrute propio,
además de ser una jornada de convivencia del
curso, donde se mejoraron los valores personales
de todos. No solo nos ayudó a mejorar nuestra
capacidad de trabajo en equipo, sino que
también mejoraron nuestras relaciones
alumno-profesor.

A Day on
the Beach
At the end of the year, the only thing we think
about is summer. Having this taken into account,
the school the past years, tends to prepare for the
last week of school, the most transcendent trip in
all the year. This marvellous excursion, involves
spending a whole day in Anfi del Mar, one of the
best well known beaches in all the island where
students from 4º ESO and 1st Bachillerato carried
out a huge variety of activities that undoubtedly
helped us to chill out and leave all the stress
behind.
This event took place the 13th of June of 2018
and lasted the whole day. We arrived at 10 am to
the beach and we were immediately splitted up
in four groups. Each group was supervised by one
monitor who instructed us. The first activity we
carried out was a banana-boat trip, it was
incredible!
Other exercises involved were, playing beach
volleyball, kayaking and paddle surfing. Despite
the fact that the first one was the one that made
us feel a rush of adrenaline the other activities
were also very funny as well as entertaining.
After all the exhaustion of the day, we sat all
together and had a great picnic. The thing that
stood out the most, was the conversation we had
with our teachers of what we were planning to
do in the summer. That day, we forgot about
exams, projects and all sort of duties, we realised
that the summer had just begun, what a
marvellous feeling!
This day, left us with lots of satisfying
experiences and anecdotes which we wont
probably fail to remember never.
Unquestionably, this is the best excursion we´ve
ever carried out in our lives, I would love to
encourage the school to continue to prepare this
trip for future generations, it is just the best way
of starting the summer.

gran canaria
Al final del curso pasado los alumnos de 2º de la
ESO fuimos de excursión al Open Gran Canaria
situado en Lomo los Frailes. Allí realizamos
diferentes actividades deportivas como el pádel,
tenis y el tenis playa.
Cuando llegamos a las instalaciones del Open,
nos presentaron a los monitores y nos dividieron
en tres grupos de 14 personas para aprovechar
más el tiempo y poder realizar las actividades de
manera individualizada. El primer grupo empezó
con tenis, el segundo, con pádel y el tercero, con
tenis playa.
En tenis nos enseñaron la técnica y la postura de
la raqueta. Después de la explicación teórica,
jugamos un partido de dobles llamado el rey de
la pista, que consistía en que la pareja ganadora
se quedaba en la pista y la que perdía cambiaba.
Fue bastante divertido y dinámico, ya que todos
pudimos jugar varias veces.
Cuando terminamos con tenis, nos fuimos al
tenis playa. La cancha era más pequeña, la red
más alta y el suelo, de arena. También nos
enseñaron la técnica y la postura correctas y
jugamos otro partido de dobles.
Una vez que terminamos esta segunda actividad,
aprovechamos para desayunar y reponer fuerzas,
ya que aún nos quedaba la última.
Al finalizar el descanso nos dirigimos a las pistas
de pádel, eran cerradas y más pequeñas comparadas
con las de tenis. En este deporte nos
enseñaron lo básico para jugar y, una vez que
terminó la explicación, jugamos partidos de
dobles contra el monitor y Miss Silvia, que es una
excelente padelista.
A todos esta salida de final de curso nos pareció
una experiencia muy divertida, los monitores
fueron muy simpáticos y entendimos bastante
bien todas las explicaciones. Sin duda repetiríamos;
ya que, además de pasar un buen rato,
hicimos bastante deporte junto a nuestros
compañeros y profesores.

Open Gran Canaria 2018
Last school year, all of 2º ESO went on a trip to
the Open Gran Canaria, where all of us had the
chance to try 3 different sports. When we arrived,
we left our things and we were received by 6
different coaches. We felt really exited for that
chance, because most of us hadn't tried sports
like that in our lives. We were divided in three
different groups which were: experts, the ones
who know how to play and the ones who had
never played. Then each group went with a
different coach to practise a different sport. And
the fun started!
The first sport we tried was tennis, when we
reached there we were divided in two different
groups; in this way we would learn quicker and
pay better attention. We played on a clay tennis
court and to play better we had available two
courts just for us. Firstly, the coach taught us how
to hold the racket and bounce the ball in two
different ways. For most of us was really difficult
at the beginning but then we improved thanks to
their help. After some time practising we got
more comfortable using the racket, so we did a
game with the other group who were playing
tennis, too. We got into pairs and played two vs
two each partner from a different group and each
time when someone lost they were replaced by
another partner and their opponent got a point
for their team, in this way all of us got to play a
short match.
Then we played paddle, it was similar to tennis,
however the paddle shovel was a bit thicker,
heavier and smaller. As before, we were divided
into different groups to practise, it was a little bit
confusing changing the way of playing as it is
similar to tennis but you can let the ball bounce
against the wall once and you hit the ball in a
similar place and on a smaller court. There were
lots of different courts in the Open Gran Canaria
and out all of them we used two of them, at the
beginning when we started playing most of the
balls that we hit weren´t able to pass the net or
they went so high that they passed over the walls
and finished falling in the court next to us or in
the passage next to it. Then just before finishing
this activity we played a game like the one we did
while we were playing tennis, but this time just
in in our group and not against the other one.
Finally, the last sport we did was beach tennis.
We had to take our shoes off and our socks too to
start playing. This time the rackets were thinner
and smaller . However, what was completely
different to the other sports were the court and
the ball we played with. The court wasn´t made
of clay or concrete, this time the ground was
completely cover by sand and the ball was much
softer and could be squished, not like the others.
This time we were divided again in the same
groups as before. However, this time we got all
covered with sand when we were finished. It was
difficult to get the balls when they fell outside
the court as the had nothing protecting our feet
from the bare grass, it was really funny to do this
as it was like a challenge for us.
At the end of all those activities we had some
time to relax, eat our breakfast and play a little
bit more those sports. All of us had the chance to
do the sport we liked the most on our own. After
all of this experience we learned how to do at
least a new sport and we had a great time
playing all together and something that we
really liked a lot was the great way in which the
coaches taught us how to play.
