Human Rights Day is celebrated every December 10th, commemorating the day back in 1948 when

the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In 1950, the

Assembly adopted resolution 423 (V), inviting all States and organizations concerned to commemorate

December 10th each year as Human Rights Day.

The Gabarron Foundation, concerned about the risks of global drift, where technological progress is

ahead of humanism, wants to contribute to the understanding of the challenges and current problems

of our society and the search for solutions. It will do so through the celebration of this first symposium,

which will be held annually until 2045, around this time, as a meeting of global and shared reflection.

Observatory is being held in Valladolid from 10 to 12 December on the occasion of Human Rights Day,

within the framework of the 75th anniversary of the United Nations.

Culture is a cross-cutting and necessary element in many of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The same concept of development is no longer limited to economic progress, but to progress understood in a holistic sense, in which

peace, equity, inclusion, creation, habitability and protection of the environment, both natural and heritage, are fundamental elements.

Without a sufficient cultural base of individuals and societies, these elements have no real capacity to prosper.

The consolidation of human rights throughout the world is one of the highest aspirations of humans in our time. However, the reality of

their implementation is still far from this goal. Cain´s Altarpiece reflects on this painful reality. And it calls for further progress. The twelve

great canvases by Cristobal Gabarron, accompanied by the poems of Carlos Aganzo and the music, composed ex profeso by Ernesto

Monsalve and interpreted by the cello of Eva Helena García, put color, word and sound to this cry for dignity.
