2022 LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES
1A is advocating for a set of legislative priorities during the 2022 Regular
Session to advance the organization’s vision of creating the best possible
place for business and talent to locate and stay. The priorities, adopted by our
Board of Directors, focus on improving our business environment, investing
in infrastructure, and promoting workforce development.
OneAcadiana.org/2022Priorities
Throughout the Regular Session, 1A will be engaging legislators on these
priorities and keeping our investors and members informed throughout
the process. This includes our Weekly Legislative Update emails and
comprehensive bill tracker.
On-site due diligence has been completed on the on the 74-acre Loul’s
Landing Site (Lafayette) and requests for utility information have been
distributed to local engineers within the parish. The application and exhibits
are being drafted for the initial submission of Loul’s Landing to LED. The site
is expected to achieve certification by late Q2.
VIBRANT ACADIANA
To kick off the Vibrant Acadiana initiative, 1A committed to three initial
deliverables:
1.
2.
3.
Launching the CivicCon Acadiana event series
Conducting the Mason-Dixon quality-of-life survey
Developing a regional data dashboard
In March, 1A hosted our second CivicCon Acadiana event to unveil the new
regional dashboard, fulfilling the third of these three initial commitments.
GOOD JOBS CHALLENGE
1A partnered to submit two applications
for the EDA’s Good Jobs Challenge:
1. A regional application submitted by
the UL Lafayette Blanco Center
2. A statewide application submitted
by the Louisiana Board of Regents
The need for talent development and
economic diversification sparked the
“why” behind 1A’s 55 by 25 initiative.
This Good Jobs Challenge opportunity
would help represent the “how” of 55 by 25 – by providing resources
to support collaborative skills training for high-demand occupations in
growing industries.
1A would serve as the backbone organization for each proposal, helping
to staff and operate sector partnerships for target industries. The regional
application targets the healthcare, IT, and advanced manufacturing
industries. The statewide application targets the skilled trades industry in
the Acadiana region.
VibrantAcadiana.com/Regional-Dashboard
As a tool for positive and proactive messaging around the Vibrant
Acadiana initiative, 1A launched The Vibrant Acadiana Message, a new
monthly newsletter to help raise civic IQ and celebrate bright spots in
our community.
