Lapland –

The Northern

Lights Wonderland

Best time to visit: November - March.

Commercial cooperation

Learning

Once upon a time, there was an Arctic fox whose tail

twinkled fire. The fox lives far away in hideouts of

northern woods, which very few people claim to see. The

Firefox can run so fast that its large furry tail sweeps

against the snowy hills, creating magical sparkles lit up

the sky.

Those colourful sparkles became the Northern

Light.

Every year Santa Land embraces hundreds of

thousands of hunters around the world with a

strong desire to see those colourful dancing ribbons!

Rovaniemi is the entrance of Lapland. But to

immerse in a real Northern Light adventure, true

Lapland is even further north. For example, the Inari

region to the northeast, where Saariselkä is located;

or the northwestern Enontekiö region, where Finnish

Kilpisjärvi, Sweden and Norway borders meet.

Is Santa real?

Coming to Lapland, most of us would definitely like

to meet this kind-old-man, who is living in Korvatunturi,

Lapland. With his wife Mrs Claus and

the Christmas Elves, they create and bring gifts to

everyone all over the world.

Besides meeting him in the Santa Claus Village,

you can also immerse in the holiday spirit throughout

the year, where every day is Christmas!

First, for sure we could not miss the Northern light!

For hunting the best Northern Lights, consider a

trip between November and March to Lapland! The

more North you go, the better chances you have for

seeing the Northern Lights. Being Mother Nature’s

gift, they are unpredictable but it is always worth

seeking for them during cloudless nights!

Tips: If you are travelling in the spring season till

the end of March, you could enjoy activities with

longer daylights, and long nights for aurora hunting.

Outdoor activities definitely have a big role in

Lapland holidays. The amazing scenery and the

amount of snow that even blows Finnish people's

minds will draw you outside!

Before we tell you the secrets to enjoying Lapland

to the fullest, Timetravels guide Darius, who lives his

best winters in Kilpisjärvi, has a small exercise for

you:

“First, close your eyes, imagine yourself heading to

the three countries' border with the snowmobile and

being surrounded by nothing but snowy hills. Imagine

that you could travel to three countries in just 10

seconds!

And if it is not wild enough – picture yourself gazing

at the Northern Lights in the middle of the arctic wilderness

with the air temperature reaching -30° C.”

Isn’t it exciting? But at the same time, you need

to be well prepared, open-minded, and not afraid

to step out of your comfort zone to fully immerse

yourself in this wild experience.

Let’s dig in!

Swimming in the Arctic Ocean and Sauna: Lapland

is the perfect place for sauna and cooling-off

combination. Do you feel brave? After a hot sauna,

try swimming in the freezing ocean or rolling in the

snow. This will make your blood flow and you will

feel amazing afterwards!

Husky safari: Huskies are energetic friends who

love to run and be around humans. Try taking a

sledge ride with them in the breezing haze of wind,

live the moment and enjoy the breathtaking views

surrounding you. Afterwards, you could thank them

for their service by hugging and cuddling them!

Snowshoeing: Try one of the oldest ways to

explore snowy landscapes. You will be amazed by

how these gears support your adventurous journey to

the wilderness!

Arctic skills: Try fishing on a frozen lake or

starting a fire without matches or a lighter! After

this basic course, you can survive in the Arctic wilderness!

Reindeer farm: You can only meet reindeer and

hear stories from Sami herder in the very Northern

part of Finland. Reindeer are really easygoing and

peaceful animals. You could even feed them with

lichen!

No matter what activities you do, the main point

is to have fun and enjoy the best experience as the

Timetravels team shared with us. Fulfil your dream

while staying in Finland and even beyond. The

North is calling you!
