1894 naissait une manufacure horlogère qui deviendrait légendaire dans toute
l’industrie horlogère suisse.
Deux horlogers talentueux, Emile Descombes et Georges Perret partageant leur même
passion, enregistraient la marque « Universal » au Locle. Quelques mois plus tard, le
premier brevet d’une longue série était déposé.
La réputation d’Universal tant par l’élégance de ses collections que par ses innovations
techniques se répandit très vite, amenant la manufacture à Genève en 1918. En 1937,
comme une célébration à son apogée, la compagnie était renommée Universal Genève.
Créateur, entre autres, des premières montres réversibles, des premiers chronographes au
poignet, inventeur du système chronographe à 2 poussoirs et de dizaines de calibres. Ces
impressionnantes innovations technologiques ont connu leur couronnement avec le Calibre
66, le mouvement automatique le plus plat du monde. Sans aucun doute, l’inspiration
d’Universal Genève a fait de son nom un des plus grands dans l’histoire horlogère.
�he year 1894 saw the birth of a watch manufacturer which was to become legendary
in the Swiss watch Industry.
Two talented watchmakers, Emile Descombes and Georges Perret who shared the same
passion, registered the name « Universal » in Le Locle. Only a few months later, the first in
an illustrious series of patents was registered.
Universal’s unique reputation for both the elegance of its collections and its technical
innovations spread fast, finally bringing the manufacturer to Geneva in 1918. In 1937, as a
celebration of its achievements and status within the watch making world, the company
was renamed Universal Genève.
Among Universal Genève’s greatest innovations and world firsts, were the first reversible
watch, wrist chronographs, as well as being the inventor of the 2 pusher chronograph
system. The crowning glory to this impressive legacy of innovation excellence was realised
in the Calibre 66 - the world’s slimmest automatic movement. Undoubtedly, Universal
Genève’s inspiration has made its name one of the greatest in watch making history.

�es Grecs primitifs, certainement une des premières civilisations complexes dont l’être
humain d’aujourd’hui est originaire, pensaient, qu’au-delà des mers, il y avait un
immense fleuve qui entourait tout l’Univers. C’était le fleuve Okeanos né de Ouranos
(le ciel) et de Hera (la terre).
Celui-ci n’ayant ni source ni embouchure, donnait naissance à tous les fleuves et à toutes
les mers.
Okeanos étant aussi vieux que le monde, est représenté par un homme âgé assis sur les
vagues de la mer avec un monstre marin à ses côtés. Selon le poète Homère de la Grèce
antique, tous les dieux tirent leurs origines d’Okeanos.
�he ancient Greeks, certainly one of the worlds first sophisticated civilizations, thought
that beyond the seas, there was an immense river that surrounded all the universe,
called Okeanos, which was born from Ouranos (the sky) and from Hera (the earth).
This river having no source and no mouth gave birth to all rivers and all seas.
Okeanos, being as old as the world, was represented by an old man sitting on the sea’s
waves with a marine monster aside. As per the Greek poet Homer, all Gods are native of
Okeanos.
