Doges. On a connu invitation moins engageante…
COURSE EN TÊTE
Avec 1 900 immatriculations,
la Citroën DS3 a dépassé au premier
trimestre 2011 sa concurrente
directe, la Mini. L’Italie est après la
France et le Royaume-Uni le troisième
marché pour la Citroën DS3.
LEADER OF THE PACK
With 1,900 registrations, the Citroën
DS3 overtook its main rival the Mini
in fi rst-quarter 2011. Italy is the
third-largest market for the DS3
behind France and the UK.
A jewel in a jewel-like setting. For its fi rst public appearance in Italy
in mid-April, the Citroën DS4 was on show in Milan’s hip fashion
neighbourhood to coincide with the International Furniture Fair, a
mecca for the design world. The strikingly styled DS4 was displayed
between Piazzetta Crocerossa and Via MonteNapoleone as part of
an open-air visual exploration, dotted with other key objects in
contemporary design and culminating in the futuristic creations of
Ora-ïto, EVO and UFO, both inspired by Citroën’s style heritage.
Following this antipasto, the offi cial launch of the Citroën DS4 will
be made in another essential Italian venue: Venice. Citroën is the
exclusive sponsor of the French Pavilion at this year’s Biennale art
show and the DS4 launch, made at the end of the exhibition, will be
the crowning touch to the communication initiatives made by the
brand for the event. The words fashion, design and art come naturally
when talking about Italian identity – and also resonate intimately
with Citroën’s identity. The question is no doubt one of
DNA. Flaminio Bertoni, the creator of the Traction Avant, DS and
2CV, heralded from the Lombardy town of Varese in Italy’s lake
country. Donato Cocco drew on Bertoni’s heritage when designing
the C3 in the early 2000s – a car that brought Citroën immense
success in Italy. And in a market where 55% of vehicle registrations
are in the A and B segments (city cars and compact hatchbacks), that
success has gone from strength to strength. The second-generation
C3 today accounts for one-third of the brand’s sales in Italy,
followed by the C1.
