de New York où <strong>Robert</strong> <strong>Haviland</strong><br />

L’histoire<br />

naît en 1803 dans une famille<br />

de propriétaires terriens de Harrison’s<br />

Purchase. Il débarque en France en 1839<br />

en quête de fabricants de porcelaine avant<br />

d’intégrer, en1853, la Manufacture fondée<br />

à Limoges par son jeune frère David. Bientôt,<br />

son fils, Charles Field <strong>Haviland</strong>, - Field a<br />

été ajouté au gré des alliances - né en<br />

1832, les rejoint. En épousant la petite fille<br />

de François Alluaud, ce dernier s’allie à<br />

une famille qui fabrique depuis 1797 de la<br />

porcelaine à Limoges. Très vite, il rachète<br />

à celle-ci la manufacture familiale et<br />

estampille de son nom les pièces qu’il<br />

produit. Lorsque Charles Field <strong>Haviland</strong> se<br />

retire des affaires en 1882, il a su transmettre<br />

sa passion à ses descendants.<br />

The story begins in the New York area,<br />

where <strong>Robert</strong> <strong>Haviland</strong> was born in<br />

1803 to a family of landowners in a<br />

town called Harrison’s Purchase. He came<br />

to France in 1839 seeking porcelain makers,<br />

and in 1853 joined the company founded<br />

in Limoges by his younger brother David.<br />

Soon afterwards, <strong>Robert</strong>’s son Charles<br />

Field <strong>Haviland</strong>, born in 1832, joined the<br />

family business (the name Field had been<br />

added through a series of family alliances).<br />

By marrying the granddaughter of François<br />

Alluaud, Charles allied himself with a family<br />

that had been producing fine porcelain in<br />

Limoges since 1797. He quickly acquired<br />

the family china business and began<br />

stamping his name on the wares he<br />

produced. When Charles Field <strong>Haviland</strong><br />

retired in 1882, his passion for fine
