1. General information
IMPORTANT: the safety of your
child depends on installing the
GENIUS child seat strictly according
to this instruction manual. Should
further information be required,
kindly contact the manufacturer
or retailer whose details are
engraved underneath the plastic
shell structure.
NOTICE:
1 - This is a “Universal” child restraint. It is
approved to Regulation No. 44-03 series of
amendments, for general use in vehicules and it
will fit most, but not all, car seats.
2 - A correct fit is likely if the vehicle manufacturer
has declared in the vehicle handbook that the
vehicle is preset for a “Universal” child restraint
for this age group.
3 - This child restraint has been classified as
“Universal” under more stringent conditions than
those which applied to earlier designs which do
not carry this notice.
4 - Only suitable if the vehicle is fitted with a type
approved 3 point/ static/or with retractor safety-belt,
in compliance with standard UN/ECE Regulation
No. 16 or other equivalent standards.
5 - If in doubt, consult either the child restraint
manufacturer or the retailer.
2. Safety measures: GENIUS
- Do not use the seat on side-facing car seats. - If the
child seat is modified in any way, the certification
becomes invalid and neither the manufacturer nor
the retailer shall be held responsible for any resulting
damage. - Your child’s safety can only be assured
if these instructions for use are followed properly.
- Seatbelts must always lie well against the child’s
body, taut and not twisted. - Protect the rigid plastic
parts of the seatbelts from any damage and be careful
not to damage them with moving parts in the car or
with the car doors. - When the child seat is used on
the rear seat of the car, shift the front seat slightly
forward, making space for the child’s feet. - Never
leave the child alone on the child seat. - Never leave the
child in the seat under direct sun because of the risk
of sunburn. - Stop frequently during long journeys
and allow the child to get up and move freely.
- After an accident, replace the whole child seat,
even if there is no visible damage. - In order to
reduce the risks of the child getting hurt, pack all the
luggage or other objects in the car in such a way that
they cannot move around. Also other passengers must
fasten their seatbelts. - Ensure that all the passengers
GB
know how to take the child out of the child seat in the
event of an accident. - The child seat must always be
secured to the car seat with the seatbelts, even when no
children are being transported. - These instructions for
use must always accompany the child seat. - Children
sometimes carry objects (e.g. toys) in their pockets,
which if stuck between the seatbelt and the body may
cause injury in the event of an accident. It is therefore
advisable to empty out their pockets. This warning is
also valid for adults. - By their nature children can
sometimes be very lively. Make sure to calmly explain
to them how important it is for their own safety to stay
seated with the seatbelt fastened for the whole journey.
This awareness will help make sure that the child
does not move the seatbelt or unfasten it
himself/herself. - Do not use anything to raise the seat
above the passenger car seat. In an accident the
child seat and your car seatbelts would not be able to
protect your child as well as they should.- Make sure
that the harness straps that restrain the child are taut
and fit tightly against the body, especially around the
pelvis - The child restraint must not be used without
the seat cover. The seat cover must not be replaced with
another not supplied by the manufacturer as it constitutes
an integral part of the restraint system.
3. Using the child seat in the car: GENIUS
- This child seat must be used on car seats with
3-point seatbelts; it cannot be used with 2-point
seatbelts since these could cause serious injury or
death in case of accidents. - The child seat must always
be positioned facing forward. - The seatbelts of the car
have to be approved to ECE R 16 or similar standards.
Check the test label on the belt marked “E” or “e.”
- The child seat may only be placed in the centre of
the rear seat of the car if the latter is fitted with a
3-point seatbelt in that position.
4. GENIUS Assembly
4.1. Fitting the child seat in the car
Position the child seat on the car seat (I) and pass
the car seatbelts (shoulder belt (1) and lap belt (2))
through the long slots (3) found on either side
on the rear of the child seat. Fasten them to the
corresponding fitting on the opposite side (4),(I-II).
IMPORTANT: Check that the ingoing shoulder belt
(1) is positioned at the top in the slot (3). The belts
must not be twisted. When the belts have been
passed through the back of the child seat, rest it
securely against the backrest of the car seat.
4.2 Seating the child in the child seat
The GENIUS child seat has three sets of slots (5) on
the back through which to pass the safety harness
(6) and the respective strap sleeves (9) depending
on the height of the child (III).
