ROUSSELIN.Course objectivesThis course provi<strong><strong>de</strong>s</strong> an introduction to theproblems of knowledge extraction and multicriterion<strong>de</strong>cisions based on available satelliteimagery, digital maps and open sources on thenet (with an emphasis on data gathered withvirtual globes : Google Earth, ...). It is particularlyfocused on practical applications to the sustainablemanagement of renewable natural resourcesand their political, environmental and economicevaluation (oil & gas and mining investments,water resources, agri-business and environmentalproblems). Based on a real oil exploration casein Chad with strong political, economic an<strong>de</strong>nvironmental issues, the course offers a mixof teaching sessions (offering basics on thevarious techniques involved), presentations of thecase by thematic experts (petroleum geologist,cartographer, geographer, journalist, banker, len<strong>de</strong>r,environmental risk expert, NGO representative...)and labs (practical) including hands-on initiationto remote sensing, data integration techniques,resource economic evaluation, environmentalaccounting and multicriteria mediated <strong>de</strong>cisions.The course is given in English, and has variousgoals:- First, to open the minds of participants to themany facets of geospatial data (with a particular
