Actualités / NewsEco & Développement / Eco & DevelopmentInauguration of a junior rugby school at Sadili OvalThe Ambassador of France to Kenya, Etienne de Poncins,and the director of Sadili Oval, Ms Elisabeth Odera, inauguratedon April 3rd 2013 the first official rugby school forplayers under 16 in the presence of the MPs of Kibra andLangata and the chairman of the Kenyan Rugby Federation.Sadili Oval is a community sport centre located betweenLangata and the slum of Kibra. Thisstructure targets disadvantaged youthsand aims at creating relationships betweenits members through the practiceof football, basketball, tennis, swimmingand rugby. The rugby school, supportedby a grant of 21 400 € from theSocial Fund for Development (FSD),is part of a long-term relationship betweenSadili Oval, the Embassy and theFrench School Denis Diderot which hascontributed to the training of Sadili’scoaches.The young pupils of the French Schooloften come to the centre to play friendly matches with the youngmembers of Sadili Oval. This event was an occasion to celebratethe common passion of two countries for sport. La création del’école de rugby, soutenue grâce à unesubvention de 21 400 € du Fonds Socialde Développement (FSD), résulte d’unpartenariat de longue date entre SadiliOval, l’Ambassade et le Lycée FrançaisDenis Diderot qui s’est notamment impliquédans la formation des entraîneursde Sadili.Les jeunes élèves du lycée français Denis Diderot viennent souventdisputer quelques matchs amicaux avec les jeunes membresde Sadili Oval. Cet évènement a été l’occasion de célébrer la passioncommune des deux pays pour le sport. Les échanges commerciaux entre la Franceet le Kenya ont augmenté sensiblement l’an passé, totalisantquelque 313,2 M€.Grâce à la signature de deux grands contrats notamment,les exportations françaises à destination du Kenya ont progresséde 37%, pour atteindre 235 M€.Le premier de ces contrats a étésigné entre la Commission électoralekenyane (IEBC) et l’entreprise Morphopour la fourniture de stations mobilesd’enregistrement biométrique, destinésà dresser la carte électorale du Kenya(56 M€). Le second, passé entre Ketraco– opérateur kenyan pour la transmissionélectrique – et Siemens France,a porté sur une sous station électrique àSuswa (16 M€) (photo ci-contre).Les ventes traditionnelles de la Franceau Kenya, que sont les produits pharmaceutiques,les produits chimiqueset cosmétiques et les produits agroalimentaires,se sont, quant à elles, globalement maintenues.A l’inverse, les achats de la France au Kenya, ont diminué en2012 de près de 14% pour atteindre 77 M€. Ce recul s’expliqueprincipalement par la baisse des cours mondiaux des matièrespremières agricoles ; 96% des importations françaises en provenancedu Kenya portant sur des produits agricoles ou issus del’industrie agro-alimentaire. Thus, the school is nowacknowledged as an instituion that can deliver Cambridgeexaminations.Students from the LDD will verysoon be able to pass the test inEnglish language certified by thisprestigious British University. An additionalasset to the students of LDD!In addition, the French Ministry ofEducation has approved the openingof the British international section atDenis Diderot School for the studentsfrom Primary and Secondary.Starting from the 2014 session, studentsfrom last year of SecondarySchool will be allowed to sit for theexaminations of the international optionof the Secondary School Certificate - Diplôme National duBrevet!Good luck to them!LDDOn April 3rd, 2013, in the presence of Mr. Etienne dePoncins, the Ambassador of France to Kenya, Mr. YvesTerracol, Director of French Development Agency (AFD)and Mr. Alassane Ba, Managing Director of Shelter Africa,signed a financing agreement of 20 M$. This long term lineof credit will support the developmentof mortgage loans in Africawhere lack of long term resourcesin several countries restrictsthe development of financial productsthat would allow for access toownership of households by the middleclass. This loan will thus contributeto breaking the vicious circle ofthe housing market in Africa. It willcontribute to deepening the financialmarket and will allow several financialinstitutions to get financing fromShelter Afrique so as to then proposemortgage loans. The partnership betweenAFD and Shelter Afrique, which started four years ago,is strengthening with this new operation and reveals the greatconvergence of views and objectives of the two Institutions at improvingthe living conditions of households’ lives, and to facilitateaccess to housing by a large population. AFD welcomes thisstrengthened partnership with Shelter Afrique which providesthe former with a platform to be active in this crucial and criticalissue of housing with an african print.AFDLe 3 avril 2013, en présence de M. Cetteligne de crédit long terme soutient ledéveloppement des prêts hypothécairesen Afrique où le manque deressources long terme contraint dansplusieurs pays le développement de produitsfinanciers permettant l’accès à lapropriété de ménages de la classe moyenne.Ce prêt contribuera donc à romprele cercle vicieux du marché du logementen Afrique. Il contribuera à approfondirle marché financier et permettra plusieursinstitutions financières de se financerauprès de Shelter Afrique pourproposer des prêts hypothécaires. Lepartenariat entre l’AFD et Shelter Afrique,qui a commencé il y a quatre ans, se renforce avec cette nouvelleopération et révèle la grande convergence de vues et d’objectifsdes deux institutions en matière d’amélioration les conditionsde vie des ménages et de facilitation de l’accès au logement parle plus grand nombre.
