constamment présent auprès de ses artisans Jakub

D. Staron enchante réellement la création dont la source

puise à la fois dans l’histoire et dans l’actualité qui

côtoie le futur.

La nouvelle collection Nobilis que nous dévoilerons au

fil des pages s’inspire de voyages, d’art et d’artisanat.

Elle résulte d’un métissage qui unit la tradition et le

savoir faire artisanal aux exigences de la mode-maison

occidentale. Dessins abstraits ou figuratifs s’y côtoient,

créant une atmosphère singulière.

Architecture de la matière, exploration des techniques

traditionnelles, expérience technique, chaque tapis est

NOBILIS has always collaborated with major designers:

a philosophy meaning that it can offer an ever-renewed

vision of artistic creation.

This year, the marvel of the meeting between Jakub

D. Staron and Richard Aouate has led to the discovery of

an exceptionally creative imagination and a remarkable

personality. Jakub D. Staron has forged a name in the

United States that puts him in the very front rank of

carpet designers, and his arrival in France with Nobilis

has now confirmed this reputation in Europe. An

insatiable reinventer of techniques who is constantly

present at his craft workers' side, Jakub D. Staron truly

weaves a spell with his creations, drawing on both the

past and a present that presages the future.

The new Nobilis collection shown in this catalogue is

inspired by travel, art and highly skilled crafts. It is the

result of combining traditional know-how with the

demands of Western fashion houses. Abstract and

figurative patterns mingle to create a singular

atmosphere.

With its architecture of the material, exploration of

traditional techniques and technical experience, each

rug is the outcome of a close relationship with our

weaver partners. This has been built up through the

mutual discovery of specific cultural features,

expressing the original intention and the resulting

interpretation. Imaginativeness and the perceptive

decisions shared by Richard Aouate and designer

Perrine Blaise resonate at the core of this collection.

D.Staron est doublement

diplômé dans les domaines

des arts plastiques et du

tissage. Il a débuté à Londres

dans la restauration de tapis et

moquettes antiques. A partir

de son installation aux Etats-Unis, il renforce ses compétences

et appréhende la conception et la fabrication de tapis

contemporains, traditionnels et transitionnels.

Il suit l’élaboration de ses créations avec le concours d’artisans

de tout l’Extrême Orient, et maintient une relation durable

avec tisseurs et fabricants à travers le monde. J. D. Staron va

continuellement de l’avant, produisant des motifs, dessins et

méthodes de tissage exceptionnelles, encore jamais vus dans

l’industrie du tapis.

Jakub s’attache à être inventif et à satisfaire les demandes de

productions haut de gamme. Son travail s’appuie sur les

techniques ancestrales qu’il enrichit et réinvente, mêle

éléments traditionnels et modernes. Il produit des dessins et

textures uniques, des collections caractéristiques comparables

Managing Director

Jakub Staron, is a native of Poland. He holds a Masters Degree

in both fine art and weaving. Originally, he worked in London

restoring historic rugs and carpets. His move to the U.S.

expanded his expertise to include the design and

manufacturing of contemporary, traditional, and transitional rugs.

He personally oversees the manufacturing of his products in

collaboration with craftsmen throughout the Far East, and

maintains long-standing relationships with mills and weavers

throughout the world. Staron’s personal goal is to continuously

move forward and produce exceptional patterns, designs and

methods, not seen before in the carpet making industry.

Jakub strives to be inventive, satisfy the fascination, and meet

the demands for high end, individual products. While his work

is rooted in history, Jakub mixes traditional elements with the

modern to produce unique textures, patterns and distinctive

collections that are truly works of art. Staron is the

consummate purveyor of exquisite rugs, carpeting and

broadloom, all designed with a craftsmen’s skill and a painter’s eye.

Informations techniques

Qualités

■ Tufté main

Le dessin est imprimé sur une trame de coton que l’on

tend sur un cadre. Le velours est obtenu en insérant les

fils dans la toile au moyen d’un “pistolet”. Un latex est

appliqué sur le dossier du tapis pour fixer les fils, puis le

velours est rasé ou conservé bouclé selon l’effet souhaité.

Un double dossier achève la finition du tapis.

■ Noué main

Point par point, les fils sont noués sur une trame de

coton. Le modèle sur papier quadrillé est placé au dessus

du métier. Le nombre de noeuds réalisés détermine la

qualité et la finesse du dessin. Cette technique requiert

plus de temps que le tufté main.

■ Tissé main

Réalisé sur un métier plat ou sur un métier à navette,

cette technique convient de préférence aux dessins

simples ou unis. La boucle formée par le tissage est

maintenue par la trame et peut rester boucle ou bien être

coupée en velours. Le tissage peut également être plat, la

trame de couleur recouvre alors entièrement la chaîne,

c'est la technique du kilim ou dhurry.

■ Effets, ciselage

Différentes hauteurs sont possibles pour le velours

comme pour le bouclé. Faire jouer ces reliefs permet une

grande liberté de création. Le ciselage peut venir en

finition pour accentuer une forme, sculpter la matière ou

encore accentuer la séparation des coloris.

Dimensions

La fabrication artisanale de nos tapis peut entraîner une

légère différence de dimensions, n’excédant pas 3%.

Lorsqu’un tapis est destiné à être encastré, il est

important de le signaler à la commande. Certains de nos

modèles faits main sont réalisables dans des dimensions

ou des formes particulières (nous consulter).

Couleurs

Malgré le soin apporté à la teinture des fibres et aux

contrôles, une légère différence de bains est possible

d’une fabrication à l’autre.

Technichal informations

Qualities

■ Hand tufted

The design is printed on a cotton weave stretched over a

frame. The velvet is obtained by inserting the threads into

the cloth using a “gun”. Latex is applied to the back of the

rug to hold the threads in place then the velvet is sheared

or left boucle, depending on the desired effect. Double

backing completes the finishing of the rug.

■ Hand knotted

Stitch by stitch, the threads are knotted on a cloth.

The pattern, on squared paper, is placed on top of the

loom. The number of knots determines the quality and

finesse of the design. This technique takes longer than

the hand tufted option.

■ Hand weave

Done on a flat loom or a shuttle loom, this technique is

particularly suitable for simple or unified designs. The

boucle formed by the weaving is maintained by the

fabric and can remain boucle or be cut into velvet.

The weave may also be flat, in which case the coloured

weft will completely cover the warp, in the kilim or

dhurrie style.

■ Effects, sculpting

Different heights are possible for velvets, as they are for

boucle. Playing with these reliefs gives great creative

freedom. Sculpting may take place at the finishing

stage to accentuate a shape, sculpt the material or even

accentuate the separation of shades.

Sizes

The artisan manufacturing of our rugs may cause a slight

difference in sizes, not exceeding 3%. When a rug is

intended for a particular sized space, it is important to let

us know this when you order. Some of our hand-made

models are available in different shapes or sizes (ask us

for details).

Colours

Despite the care taken in dyeing the fibres and the

checks that are made, there may be a slight bath

difference between one product and another.

Entretien

Passer l'aspirateur en douceur mais régulièrement.

Pendant les premiers mois, votre tapis perd l'excédant de

laine (c'est le débourrage) et forme des peluches, aspirezles

sans frotter. De temps en temps, utilisez en douceur

un aspirateur adapté avec turbo brosse qui soulève les

fibres et redonne du gonflant au tapis.

■ Nettoyage

Quand cela parait nécessaire, utiliser une poudre de

nettoyage spéciale tapis et moquette. Une fois par an,

confier le tapis à un artisan spécialisé. En cas de taches,

intervenir rapidement avec du papier absorbant. Ne

jamais humidifier la viscose. Avec précaution, la laine

peut être nettoyée avec de l’eau légèrement savonneuse

et du papier absorbant.

■ Traitement antisalissure

Il existe des traitements de protection qui diminuent

l’adhésion de la poussière sur les fibres et rendent

l’aspiration plus aisée. Consulter un artisan spécialisé.

Maintenance

Hoover the rug gently but often. During the first few

months, your rug will shed its excess wool (a process

known as ‘fluffing’ or ‘shedding’), forming small balls of

lint. Hoover these up carefully (do not abrade). From time

to time, gently run a hoover fitted with a turbo brush to

lift the pile and fluff up the rug.

■ Cleaning

When required, use a special cleaning powder for rugs

and carpets. Have the rug cleaned professionally once a

year. If the product becomes stained, act quickly using

absorbent paper. Never get viscose wet. With care, wool

can be cleaned with slightly soapy water and absorbent

paper.
