Konkrit adalahsalah satu bahan binaan yang paling awal digunakan dalamindustri pembinaan. Teknologi konkrit dan struktur konkritbertetulang telah memberi kesan besar terhadap sektorpembinaan.Penyelidikan terhadap konkrit telah bermula sejakzaman Rom dan Mesir. Mereka telah mengubah sifat-sifatkonkrit dengan menambahkan abu gunung berapi yangmampu menjadikan konkrit mengeras di bawah air. OrangRom juga menambahkan bulu kuda untuk menjadikankonkrit kurang menguncup semasa mengeras. Pada masa kini,pelbagai penyelidikan telah dijalankan bagi mencipta konkrityang kuat, ringan dan mampu digunakan dalam semuakeadaan.Prof. Madya Dr. Lee Yee Loon dari FakultiKejuruteraan Awam dan Alam Sekitar, Universiti TunHussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), telah berjaya menghasilkanKUIK Wall menggunakan bahan yang mesra alam yangterdiri daripada konkrit ringan dan silica biomas. Ia mampumengurangkan penyerapan haba dan juga menjimatkanpenggunaan penghawa dingin. Teknologi Konkrit Dalam PembinaanOleh : Suhaimi Mohd. SukorFOKUSKonkrit merupakan salah satu bahan binaan tertua dan paling penting digunakan dalam industri pembinaan. Ia merupakan gabungansimen dan aggregat seperti pasir, batu baur halus dan kasar.Kualiti konkrit yang dihasilkan bergantung kepada kualiti bahan-bahan mentah yang digunakan, kadar pencampuran, cara pembancuhan,cara pengangkutan dan cara-cara pemadatan. Oleh itu, teknologi konkrit telah menentukan semua bahan yang akan digunakan perlu diujidan mendapat kelulusan piawaian yang telah ditetapkan sebelum digunakan dalam pembinaan.Sifat-sifat konkrit yang perlu diketahui :1. Mengeras dan membeku dengan kehadiran air. Sifat ini penting dalam pembinaan, terutama pembinaan asaspada tempat yang basah.2. Tidak berkarat atau reput. Ia tidak juga diserang oleh anai-anai atau serangga lain.3. Boleh di bancuh untuk dibentukkan menjadi sebarang bentuk mengikut acuan.4. BERSAMA PENGARANGOleh : Mohd Noor Hasman Mohd Tumari & Hanafi KasimProf. Madya Dr. Lee Yee Loon telah terlibat dalam pendidikan Kejuruteraan Awam lebih 31 tahun.Beliau dilahirkan pada 22 Disember 1954 di Kuala Lumpur dan mendapat pendidikan awal diSRJK (C) Sam Yoke, Kuala Lumpur. Selepas memperolehi sijil MCE, beliau menjadi pelatih diKuan Cheong Engineering yang dimiliki oleh Tan Sri Soong Siew Hoong. Mengimbas kembalizaman pengajiannya, beliau mendapat pendidikan tinggi pertama di Universiti Teknologi Malaysia(UTM) dan memperolehi Diploma Kejuruteraan Awam pada tahun 1976. Kemudian beliaumelanjutkan pelajaran di peringkat Sarjana Muda di Universiti Strathclyde, United Kingdomdan memperolehi B.Sc. in Civil Engineering pada tahun 1980.Memandangkan minatnya yang mendalam dalam bidang pendidikan terutamanya dalam bidangkejuruteraan awam, beliau telah memperolehi Diploma Pendidikan di Universiti Malaya (UM)pada 1982 dan kemudian beliau menyambung pengajian di peringkat Sarjana di University ofManchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), United Kingdom dalam bidangPengurusan dan Pembinaan pada tahun 1991. Akhirnya beliau menyambung pengajian keperingkat Doktor Falsafah pada tahun 2000 di Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) dalambidang Kejuruteraan Awam.Beliau pernah berkhidmat di Politeknik Ungku Omar, Politeknik Sultan Abdul HalimMu’adzam Shah dan Politeknik Balik Pulau. Koleksi RujukanOleh : Faizul SahariKOLEKSIKoleksi Rujukan merupakan salah satu koleksi yang terdapat di Perpustakaan UTHM dan ditempatkandi Aras 1. Koleksi ini menyediakan pelbagai pilihan bahan rujukan untuk pengguna perpustakaan.Koleksi Rujukan terdiri daripada kamus, ensiklopedia, buku panduan, indeks, atlas, bibliografi,laporan perangkaan, direktori dan sebagainya. Koleksi ini hanya untuk rujukan dalaman sahaja.Koleksi Rujukan diberikan tanda simbol pada nombor panggilan bagi memudahkan pencarian, pengesanan danpenyusunan semula bahan di rak. PERKHIDMATANPangkalan Data SCOPUSOleh : Siti Afifah Che IsmailSCOPUS merupakan pangkalan data terbesar di dunia pada masa ini yang mengandungi abstrak dan petikan bagi jurnal yangdiadili (peer-reviewed journal), iaitu sebanyak 18,000 ‘peer-reviewed journal’ daripada lebih 5,000 penerbit antarabangsa, artikeldalam penerbitan (Article in Press) serta jurnal akses terbuka (Open Access Journals) di dalam pelbagai bidang dan disiplin yangdikemaskini setiap hari. SCOPUS turut menyediakan akses kepada artikel secara teks penuh. SCOPUS amat bermanfaat kepadapenyelidik, khususnya yang aktif menulis di dalam bidang kepakaran masing-masing.Bagi penyelidik yang artikelnya dapat diperoleh melalui pangkalan data ini, mereka boleh mendapat maklumat berkaitan siapayang memetik artikel mereka atau mereka sendiri secara individu sebagai rujukan, dan kekerapannya. SUDUT BPSMPenyerahan Bahan Seminar dan ProsidingOleh : Zuhra ZainuddinPerpustakaan UTHM memainkan peranan yang penting dalam menyediakan pelbagai maklumat dan bahan rujukankepada seluruh warga universiti. Salah satu koleksi perpustakaan ialah Koleksi Khas UTHM. Antara bahan rujukan KoleksiKhas UTHM adalah bahan seminar dan kertas prosiding. Sumber rujukan ini biasanya diperolehi daripada seminar,persidangan, konvensyen, simposium, bengkel dan kolokium samada anjuran UTHM atau oganisasi lain.
