Kesucian Umat Awam Buddhis - DhammaCitta

FOREWORDThere is a proliferation of books on Buddhismduring these two thousand five hundred years ofthe religion. Traditional Buddhism as practised inBuddhist countries relies heavily on the later bookslike Commentaries, Abhidhamma, VisuddhiMagga, etc. Unfortunately some of these laterwritings contain some contradictions with originalBuddha-Dhamma as found in the earliestdiscourses (Suttas) of the Buddha.Seeing this danger, the Buddha warned inSamyutta Nikaya, Sutta 20.7, that we should notlisten to the words of “disciples” (i.e. later monks),but we should rely only on the Suttas.Again, in Anguttara Nikaya, Sutta 4.180, theBuddha said that if any monk claims that such-andsuchare the teachings of the Buddha, his words areto be compared with the Suttas and the Vinaya(Monastic Discipline). Only if they conform to theSuttas and the Vinaya can they be accepted to bethe teachings of the Buddha.i
