“Ferrajoli della Starza” Building
This Ferraioli building was built on the land which had
first been property of the old Monastery of San Trifone
of Ravello and then Abbey of S.Maria Maddalena: the
Starza extends for about 10 hectares.
Built at the beginning of the 1800s it is in fact composed
of two different structures. The oldest and most
elegant dates to the 1700s . It was set fire to as a form
of retaliation against the Colonel of the Borbonic army,
Luigi Ferrajoli. Withstanding the resistence of the inva-

sion by the French army at the end of the 1700s, it rises
at the back of the present complex. The entire building
is emerged in a splendid garden.
It belongs to the family which, in order of social prestige,
can be considered the third in rank of Sant’Egidio
and which gave the town a hero from World War I,
Lieutenant Innocenzo Ferraioli.
Since the end of the 1700s the family has had the
patronage of the altar of San Carmine and Santa Lucia
in the Abbey, adorned with a cloth of the deposition of
Tommaso De Vivo.
