“Ferrajoli <strong>del</strong>la Starza” Build<strong>in</strong>g<br />
This Ferraioli build<strong>in</strong>g was built on the land which had<br />
first been property of the old Monastery of San Trifone<br />
of Ravello and then Abbey of S.Maria Maddalena: the<br />
Starza extends for about 10 hectares.<br />
Built at the beg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g of the 1800s it is <strong>in</strong> fact composed<br />
of two different structures. The oldest and most<br />
elegant dates to the 1700s . It was set fire to as a form<br />
of retaliation aga<strong>in</strong>st the Colonel of the Borbonic army,<br />
Luigi Ferrajoli. Withstand<strong>in</strong>g the resistence of the <strong>in</strong>va-<br />

sion by the French army at the end of the 1700s, it rises<br />
at the back of the present complex. The entire build<strong>in</strong>g<br />
is emerged <strong>in</strong> a splendid garden.<br />
It belongs to the family which, <strong>in</strong> order of social prestige,<br />
can be considered the third <strong>in</strong> rank of Sant’Egidio<br />
and which gave the town a hero from World War I,<br />
Lieutenant Innocenzo Ferraioli.<br />
S<strong>in</strong>ce the end of the 1700s the family has had the<br />
patronage of the altar of San Carm<strong>in</strong>e and Santa Lucia<br />
<strong>in</strong> the Abbey, adorned with a cloth of the deposition of<br />
Tommaso De Vivo.
