As I write this message at the end of the exciting summer
season of athletics action in Europe, which culminated with
the Olympic Games in Beijing, the thoughts of all athletes
and athletics spectators has now naturally turned to the
next major competition which of course is the 30th European
Athletics Indoor Championships in Torino next March.
Italy is a regular and well - trusted host of major European
Athletics competitions. In the great history of these Championships we have visited
the capital of the Mediterranean on four occasions with Milan playing host
in 1978 & 1982, Genoa in 1992 and now Torino 2009. This city will certainly write
its own special chapter in the history of the event!
Torino can boast a wonderful tradition in athletics. It was the home city of the
past president of the IAAF Primo Nebiolo and in fact a track bearing his name
hosts an international meeting every June. It is also the capital of the Piedmont
region which can boast many champion athletes of the past and present.
It was also the host of the Winter Olympic Games in 2006 and I know from my
many visits here that its people love athletics and sport in general and I have
no doubt that they will fill the Oval Lingotto for the three days of the championships
and provide memories that will live forever.
On behalf of European Athletics I would like to thank the City of Torino, The
Italian Athletics federation (FIDAL) and the Local Organising Committee for
their hard work on the organisation of the championships. We are looking forward
to another outstanding athletics event next March.

Mentre scrivo questo messaggio, al termine di una stagione davvero emozionante
per l’atletica europea, culminata nei Giochi Olimpici di Pechino, il pensiero di tutti
gli atleti e degli spettatori del nostro sport è rivolto alla prossima manifestazione
di prima grandezza, che è certamente la XXX edizione dei Campionati Europei Indoor,
in programma a Torino nel marzo prossimo.
L’Italia è un paese che ospita regolarmente, e con una lunga tradizione di successi,
le maggiori manifestazioni europee di atletica. Nella storia del campionato europeo
indoor, abbiamo visitato la “capitale” del Mediterraneo in quattro diverse occasioni,
con Milano ad ospitarlo nel 1978 e nel 1982, Genova nel 1992, e ora Torino
2009, città che saprà certamente scrivere il suo speciale capitolo nel racconto dell’evento!
Torino può vantare una meravigliosa tradizione in atletica. E’ stata la città del presidente
della IAAF Primo Nebiolo, ed infatti oggi un impianto che porta il suo nome
ospita un grande meeting internazionale nel mese di giugno. E’ anche il capoluogo
del Piemonte, una regione che ha dato i natali a molti campioni del passato e del
presente.
E’ stata anche la città che ha ospitato i Giochi Olimpici invernali del 2006, ed io so
per esperienza diretta, in seguito alle mie molte visite qui, che la sua gente ama
l’atletica e lo sport in generale; non ho dubbi sul fatto che riempirà l’Oval Lingotto
per tutti e tre i giorni della manifestazione, regalandoci ricordi che resteranno per
sempre.
A nome dell’Atletica Europea vorrei ringraziare la Città di Torino, la Federazione
Italiana di Atletica Leggera (FIDAL), e il Comitato Organizzatore Locale per il loro
duro lavoro nell’organizzazione dei Campionati. In attesa di un’altra straordinaria
manifestazione di atletica nel marzo prossimo.

L’Olimpiade di Pechino è ancora nei nostri occhi. In quell’occasione,
l’atletica ha confermato, ove ce ne fosse
bisogno, il suo straordinario successo, il suo ruolo di protagonista
nel consesso dello sport mondiale. E’ in occasioni
come questa che riusciamo a toccare con mano la popolarità
ed il grado di approvazione da parte del pubblico della
nostra amata disciplina. Ed il pubblico ama i grandi confronti
internazionali, li vive sempre più come occasione di festa, come momento di
apertura al mondo, a realtà diverse dalla propria. In sostanza, in quelli che gli
anglofoni definiscono “major events”, l’atletica riesce a fare la miglior promozione
di sé stessa.
Ecco perché Torino 2009, ecco perché abbiamo scelto di ospitare la XXX edizione
dei Campionati Europei Indoor, manifestazione dall’altissimo grado di
spettacolarità e dall’ altrettanto convincente livello tecnico. Non mi stancherò
mai di ripetere che consideriamo la rassegna una meravigliosa opportunità di
promozione dell’atletica leggera sul nostro territorio. Oggi, a pochi mesi dal
via delle gare, con la stagione invernale ormai alle porte, sento il calore della
città di Torino crescere, l’attenzione da parte della gente verso il nostro Europeo
sempre più forte. Stiamo facendo il massimo per riuscire ad allestire nel
migliore dei modi, con il fondamentale supporto del Comune e della Provincia
di Torino, e della Regione Piemonte, un’edizione indimenticabile dei Campionati.
Lo merita la EAA, che ci ha dato fiducia nell’assegnarci l’organizzazione,
lo merita la storia di questa rassegna. Lo merita, in definitiva, l’atletica.

The Olympic Games in Bejing is still in our eyes. During this event, athletics
confirmed its extrahordinary success and its leading role in the world of sport.
It is in events like the Olympic Games that we can feel directly how popular our
loved sport discipline is and how the crowd appreciate it. The crowd love the
big international meetings, they enjoy them even more as a party to celebrate,
as a chance to open to the world and to countries ad cultures which are different
from ours. It is thanks to those competitions, which english-speaking
people call “major events”, that athletics manages to make the best promotion
of itself.
This is the reason why we have decided to organise Torino 2009, to host the
30th edition of the European Indoor Championships, an highly spectacular
event with an outstanding technical level. I will never get tired of repeating
that we consider this event as an extrahordinary opportunity to promote athletics
in our country. Today I feel that the passion of Torino is growing, the interest
of people for our European Athletics Indoor Championships is
increasingly stronger just a few months to go to the event, as the winter season
is approaching. We are doing our best to play host to a memorable edition
of the European Championships thanks to the fundamental support of the Local
government of Torino, the Province and the Piedmont Region. European Athletics,
which has trusted us choosing Torino as host city, deserves that. The history
of this championships deserves it. After all, athletics deserves it.

Il saluto del Presidente della Regione Piemonte
Nel 2009 Torino ospiterà i Campionati
europei indoor di atletica leggera, riconfermandosi
città di grande vocazione
sportiva. Il Piemonte e il suo
capoluogo vantano infatti una lunga
tradizione nello sport e nell’atletica
leggera in particolare: qui vennero fondate
la prima società di ginnastica
nazionale e l’Unione Podistica Torinese, antesignana della moderna
Federazione Italiana di Atletica Leggera. E tutti ricordiamo
Primo Nebiolo, atleta e grandissimo dirigente sportivo torinese,
che diede vita ad un concetto nuovo di atletica e richiamò su
questo sport l’attenzione del pubblico e dei media.
Dopo il successo olimpico la nostra città ha ospitato eventi
sportivi internazionali di rilievo, dalle Universiadi ai Mondiali di
Scherma, agli Europei di Tiro con l’Arco, alla cui riuscita hanno
contribuito impianti all’avanguardia che, progettati per ospitare
i Giochi Olimpici, sono oggi tra le strutture sportive di più alto
livello al mondo. Siamo quindi felici e onorati di poter accogliere
questa nuova manifestazione internazionale, alla cui organizzazione
molte persone stanno lavorando con attenzione, impegno
e passione infinita. Sono certa che tutti questi sforzi saranno premiati
da un grande successo organizzativo e di pubblico.

In 2009 Torino will play host to the European Athletics Indoor
Championships, reconfirming itself as a Sport City. Piedmont and
its capital city boast a long and important sport tradition and especially
in athletics: the first national club of gymnastics and the
“Unione Podistica Torinese”, the forerunner of Italian Athletic Federation,
were founded here. All of us remember Primo Nebiolo,
athlete and great sport manager, who was born in Torino. He created
a new idea of athletics and he drew the attention of people
and media on this sport. After the success of the Olympic
Games our city played host to important international sport
events, such as the XXIII Winter Universiade, the World Fencing
Championships and the European Archery Championships. The

venues planned for the Olympic Games, a reason for the achievement
of the Games, are today among the highest level sport facilities
in the world.
We are very happy and honoured to host a new international
event as the European Athletics Indoor Championships Torino
2009. A lot of people are working wholeheartedly with proficiency,
committment and passion. I’m sure that all these efforts
will be rewarded with a big success of public.

dell’Assessore allo sport
Per lo sport torinese il 2009 sarà ancora
una volta un anno indimenticabile:
sarà l’ennesima smentita del
pessimismo di chi pensava ad un calo
di tensione nel periodo postolimpico.
Sono le Federazioni stesse
a chiedere di organizzare da noi i
loro eventi più importanti, perché
nel nostro territorio trovano un terreno sportivo fertile.
L’assegnazione alla Città di Torino dell’organizzazione dei Campionati
Europei Indoor di Atletica Leggera è stata l’ennesima
conferma del consolidamento del ruolo del capoluogo subalpino
nel panorama sportivo mondiale. Ma Torino e la sua
provincia stanno lavorando bene anche nella promozione dello
sport di base. Gli avvenimenti sportivi di alto livello sono
un formidabile veicolo di promozione turistica, ma anche
un’occasione di promozione dello sport e, soprattutto, di valorizzazione
degli impianti realizzati per i Giochi del 2006. Il
fatto che gli Europei Indoor si disputeranno all’Oval non può
che confermare la validità e la polivalenza della struttura.

Province
For the sport in Torino 2009 will be once again an unforgettable
year. It will prove wrong the pessimism of those who
thought about a drop in enthusiasm during the post-olympic
period. Federations themselves ask us to organise their most
important events because they find a fertile sport ground in
our region. The decision to award the European Athletics Indoor
Championships to the City of Torino has confirmed once
again that the sub-alpine city has a well-established role in
the world of sport. On the other hand Torino and its Province
are working well in the promotion of grass-root sport. Highlevel
sport events are not only an extrahordinary promotional
vehicle for tourism, but also an occasion to promote sport
and, above all, to enhance the value of sport facilities built
for the 2006 Winter Olympic Games. The fact that the European
Athletics Indoor Championships will be held at the Oval
Indoor Arena just confirms the worth and the versatility of
the facility.

L'appuntamento con i campionati europei
indoor di atletica leggera si sta
avvicinando. Mancano appena sei mesi
all'evento che porterà tanti grandi
campioni sulla pista e le pedane dell'Oval
Lingotto e tra essi non mancheranno
alcuni dei protagonisti ai Giochi
Olimpici di Pechino. Sono certo che,
a seguire le loro imprese, giungeranno
a Torino tantissimi appassionati provenienti da ogni parte d'Italia
e d'Europa.

Stiamo mettendo a punto la complessa macchina organizzativa
in tutti i suoi risvolti. Vogliamo che gli ospiti di Torino
2009, così come accaduto per i Giochi Olimpici Invernali del
2006, accanto ad un eccezionale e indimenticabile avvenimento
di sport possano godere della città al massimo delle
sue potenzialità: prestigiosi musei, gioielli architettonici, spettacoli,
manifestazioni culturali, ricchissima enogastronomia,
shopping nelle vie del centro storico e una cornice naturale,
con il Po e la collina, davvero invidiabile. Come dimostrato in
tante occasioni, Torino saprà garantire un soggiorno piacevole
e un'accoglienza calorosa agli ospiti che attendiamo numerosi.

The European Athletics Indoor Championships are drawing
closer. It’s just six months to go to the event which will gather
many stars to the track of the Oval Lingotto Indoor Facility.
Among them there will be some stars of the Olympic
Games in Bejing. I am sure that many fans from all corners of
Italy and Europe will come to Torino.
We are setting up the complex organisational structure in all
aspects. We want the guests of Torino 2009 to enjoy the city
to its full potential, besides an outstanding and unforgettable
sport event as already happened during the 2006 Winter
Olympic Games: prestigious museums, architectural jewels,
shows, cultural events, a very rich offer of food and wine, shopping
in the streets of the old city centre and a really enviable
natural setting with the Po river and the hills. As shown in
many other occasions, Torino will be able to guarantee a pleasant
stay and a warm welcome to a large number of guests we
are waiting for.

Italy, an athletics country
The first seeds of Italian athletics as an official
sport activity were sown just in
Torino, which is getting ready to play host
the 2009 European Athletics Indoor Championships.
During the 1897 summer a gentleman
named Mario Luigi Mina founded
the Turin Pedestrian Union which then became
the Italian Pedestrian Union and later
Italian Athletics Federation. That year the
first Italian marathon championships were
organized in Turin, although they were
staged on a shorter course (35 km).
Longer distance races were just the most
attractive competititions to younger people.
The first star of Italian athletics was
Dorando Pietri who became famous all
over the world at the 1908 Olympic Games
in London. The reason for his fame was not
the win in the marathon, but his disqualification
after being helped by the compassionate
aid of an official in the last metres
of the race. This year Carpi near Modena
has celebrated the century anniversary of
that epic race. A delegation of the Emilia

Romagna’s town was granted an audience
by Queen Elisabeth who admired the silver
cup presented by her grandmother Alexandra
to the unlucky athlete. English writer
Arthur Conan Doyle promoted the initiative
to repay the star at least as a moral
winner. Since then athletics has become
more and more popular by grabbing the
headlines in the Italian newspapers and by
achieving international success. However,
Livio Berruti’s win in the 200 metres at the
1960 Olympic Games in Rome contributed
to take this sport off. TV pictures showing
the evocative marathon run on the Fori Imperiali
Streets during the evening and won
by bare-footed ethiopian runner Abebe Bikila
gave an important contribution to this
event (the Olympic Games were the first to
be broadcast on television)
Until 2008 nineteen Italian athletes have
won the olympic gold medal (sixteen men
and three women). Here we remember the
latter ones: Ondina Valla in the 80 metres

Dorando Pietri
hurdles in Berlin 1936, Sara Simeoni in the
high jump in Moscow 1980, Gabriella Dorio
in the 1500 metres in Los Angeles 1984. The
last gold medal was won in the men’s 50
km walking race by Alex Schwazer in Beijing.
However Italy distinguished itself for
playing host to great competitions receiving
the general appreciation, like the 1987
World Championships in Rome or the
World Cross Country Championships in
Turin in 1997 when the asphalt roads along

the Po river were covered by turf carried
by hundredths of lorries to recreate the
ideal conditions for runners.
The boost to Italian athletics was given in
the Seventies by Primo Nebiolo, the President
of the Fidal and later of the IAAF. Gianni
Gola replaced Nebiolo as President of
the Fidal. Franco Arese, a former middledistance
European Champion in the 1500
metres in Helsinki 1971, has become the
Fidal President since 2004.

L’Oval delle meraviglie
La notevole complessità organizzativa necessaria allo
svolgimento di un evento come il Campionato Europeo
Indoor e le relative notevoli risorse, messe in campo dal
Comitato Organizzatore, sono facilmente comprensibili
leggendo quanto si sta progettando per adeguare l’Oval
ai parametri richiesti dalla Associazione Europea di
Atletica (EAA). La grande e polivalente struttura, dotata
di una pista permanente ad anello per il ghiaccio di
400.00 ml, già sede delle gare di Pattinaggio Velocità
durante le recenti Olimpiadi torinesi, sarà teatro di un
nuovo grande evento sportivo e di un ulteriore straordinario
allestimento tecnico e scenico. Sotto i 26.500
mq della sua copertura, verrà allestito per l’occasione
un vero e proprio “Palazzo dello Sport”, comprensivo,
oltre che delle parti sportive e delle tribune per pubblico
e Media, anche di due Centri Accrediti, di un Centro
Stampa, di un’area destinata al riscaldamento pre-gara
degli atleti (Warm-up Area), di un’Area Ospitalità per VIP
e Sponsor, oltre che di tutti i restanti servizi necessari al
corretto svolgimento del Campionato. Le competizioni
si svolgeranno su una pista indoor rimovibile ad anello
di 200 ml. e 6 corsie ed un rettilineo centrale ad 8 cor-
sie. Rettilineo centrale e pedane saranno tutte nel parterre
interno all’anello che, come l’anello stesso, sarà realizzato
con una struttura piana soprelevata di ca. 40/45
cm rispetto al pavimento dell’Oval. Tale soluzione garantirà
la piena tutela delle serpentine per il ghiaccio e faciliterà
il cablaggio di tutti gli impianti tecnologici. La
pedana del peso sarà collocata sul rettilineo centrale,
mentre la relativa gabbia di protezione, motorizzata e
appesa alla copertura dell’Oval e costituita da un traliccio
“tipo americana” e rete, quando non utilizzata verrà
raccolta sotto la copertura. Sui piazzali esterni dell’Oval,
oltre ai parcheggi riservati alle varie “famiglie” del Campionato,
verrà allestito il TV Compound, l’Area Tecnica
di ca. 4.500 mq., destinata ai numerosi automezzi della
produzione televisiva RAI, oltre che agli ulteriori mezzi
delle emittenti straniere.
Tribune
Di tipo prefabbricato in alluminio con scocche in PVC,
saranno disposte su tre lati dell’anello. Avranno accessi
dal basso e gallerie di servizio ed una capienza complessiva
di ca. 5.000 posti, Tribuna Stampa esclusa.

Centro Servizi
Un Importante intervento di allestimento, è rappresentato
dal cosiddetto Centro Servizi, area polifunzionale di
ca. 2.500 mq, all’interno della quale, tra le altre, troveranno
spazio le seguenti imprescindibili aree di attività:
- Centro Accrediti: in realtà due differenti Centri di accredito,
uno destinato alle delegazioni e l’altro ai Media.
- Centro Stampa: ca. 1.000 mq di uffici e aree comuni
saranno destinati all’ allestimento di questa area che di
fatto sarà operativa “h 24” durante il periodo di svolgimento
dei Campionati. Al suo interno troveranno posto:
Sala Stampa dotata di 102 postazioni di lavoro fornite di
PC in rete, schermi LCD e armadietti di cortesia; Sala Conferenze
per ca. 100 posti, fornita dei necessari supporti
audiovisivi; Area Ristoro dotata di edicola e caffetteria
- Area Catering
- Tic (Technical Information Centre)
Area Tecnica
Un altro importante intervento di allestimento è stato
concentrato sui ca. 3.000 mq. dell’Area Tecnica, suddivisa
in: Warm-Up Area, 2.000 mq. di area pavimentata e attrezzata
per il riscaldamento pre-gara degli atleti; è costituita
da un rettilineo di 50 ml. ad 8 corsie, con adiacenti
spazi per i concorsi e un’area di pesistica; Call-Room, con
una superficie di 250 mq; Area Fisioterapica, sul lato lungo
dell’Area di Riscaldamento; Area Cerimoniale Premiazioni.
Il Centro Servizi e l’Area Tecnica saranno occultate alla
vista degli spettatori, dall’abbassamento di una delle due
grandi tende di cui è dotato l’Oval, che di fatto consentirà
di suddividere lo stesso in due aree, quella delle competizioni
con tribune e impianto di gara, da quella di
servizio. Nell’area destinata alle competizioni, verrà allestita
anche la struttura destinata al Cerimoniale delle Premiazioni
(realizzata con elementi di tipo “layer”, servirà di
supporto dei tre mega-screen da circa 50 mq. cadauno).

The Wonder of the Oval
The considerable organisational complexity needed
to play host to an event like the European Athletics
Indoor Championships and the relative resources allocated
by the Organising Committee are easily understandable
when we read what is being planned
for the Oval to meet the criteria set by the European
Athletics. The big and multi-functional facility,
equipped with a permanent 400 metres oval ice track,
which has alredy hosted ice speed skating competitions
during the recent Winter Olympic Games in
Turin, will play host to another big sport event and
a further extrahordinary technical stage setting. Under
its 26500 square metres roof, a true Indoor Sport
Facility will be prepared for the event. It will include
two Accreditation Centres, a Press Centre, a pre-competition
warm-up area for athletes, an hospitality
area for VIP and Sponsors, besides the track and the
stands for the crowd and the media, as well as the
remaining services needed to the correct development
of the Championships. The competitions will
take place on a 200 metres removable indoor oval
track with six lanes and on a eight-lane straight. The
central straight and the runways are in the infield inside
the oval which, like the oval itself, will be built
on a flat structure which is banked by about 40/45
cm above the Oval’s floor. This solution will guarantee
the full protection of the coils for the ice and
will make the wiring for all technological equipment.
The shot put circle will be placed on the central
straight, while the relative safety cage, which is motorized
and hanging from the Oval’s roof and made
up of an “american-type” ticking and net, will be
closed and placed under the roof when it is not used.
The TV Compound, the Technical Area of about 4500
square metres., which will be used for many motor
vehicles of the RAI television broadcasting production,
as well as further means of foreign broadcasters
will be prepared outside the Oval, besides the
car parking for the Championships “families”.
Stands
Prefabricated in alluminium with PVC bodies, the
stands will be placed on three sides of the oval. They
will have access from downstairs and gangways and
a capacity of 5000 seats, excluding the press stand.
Service Centre
An important facility is represented by the so-called
Service Centre, a multi-functional area of about 2500
square metres. Inside this area the following funda-

mental activity areas will be located:
Accreditation area: it is made up of two different Accreditation
Centres. One is for delegations and the
other for the Media
Press Centre: about 1000 square metres. of offices
and common areas will be hosted in this area which
will be operative 24 hours a day during the period of
the Championships. Inside this area there will be a
Press Room equipped with 102 desks with online PC,
LCD screens and wardrobes; Conference Rooms with
about 100 seats equipped with the necessary audiovisual
aids; Refreshment Area equipped with a
newsagent’s and a coffee bar. .
Catering Area
TIC (Technical Information Centre)
Technical Area
Another important facility has been located on about
3000 sqm of the Technical Area. It is divided into:
Warm-Up Area of 2000 square metres of floored area
and equipped for pre-competition warm-up for the
athletes. It is made up of a 50 metres straight with
eight lanes with next areas for field events and a
weight room; Call-Room, with a surface of 250 square
metres; Physiotherapic Area: on the long side of the
Warm-Up Area; Award Ceremony Area.
The Service Centre and the Technical Area will be
hidden from the sight of spectators by pulling down
one of the two curtains with which the Oval is
equipped. This will allow to divide the Oval in two
areas, the one where the competitions take place
with stands and the track and the other where the
service centre is located. In the competition area,
the Award Ceremony area will be prepared (it is

va a scuola
Il Comitato Organizzatore dei Campionati Europei Indoor di
Atletica Leggera Torino 2009 ha dato vita ad un Progetto Scuola
che coinvolge la città di Torino e tutto il territorio piemontese
come prosecuzione di un percorso formativo di crescita sportiva
e sociale, iniziato con le Olimpiadi Invernali di Torino 2006 e
proseguito con successo.
Il Progetto Scuola Torino 2009 si pone l’obiettivo di comunicare
l’evento e attraverso esso di rendere partecipe il mondo della
scuola dei valori di cui lo sport, in particolare l’atletica leggera, è
portatore. Il pubblico principale sono i giovani, gli utenti della
scuola, in un target compreso tra i 6 e i 18 anni; ma la forza del
progetto è che attraverso i ragazzi si raggiungono gli adulti e in
particolare le famiglie.
Il valore formativo e sociale dell’iniziativa ha portato ad avere al
nostro fianco come collaboratori gli Organi Ministeriali Scolastici
territoriali che contribuiscono alla diffusione del messaggio.
Il piano del progetto prevede una comunicazione dell’evento mirata
alla scuola e che si svolge nella scuola, la partecipazione
delle scuole all’evento nella sessione di gara
ad esse dedicata (il venerdì mattina), un programma
particolare di accoglienza presso l’Oval Lingotto, un
piano trasporti e un programma di promozione mirato
di cui fa parte anche l’iniziativa: “DAI UN NOME
ALLA MASCOTTE”.
Le scuole, con la loro partecipazione, hanno
saputo trasmettere passione, entusiasmo e
gioia ai grandi appuntamenti sportivi ospitati a
Torino e ormai riconosciute dalla comunità sportiva
internazionale come il fiore all’occhiello degli eventi
piemontesi. I Campionati Europei Indoor di Atletica
Leggera Torino 2009 continuano questa tradizione

The Organising Committee of the 2009 European Athletics Indoor
Championships in Torino has launched a School Project which
involves the city of Torino and the whole Piedmont region as a
continuation of a formative process of sporting and social growth
which has begun with the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Torino
and is going on successfully.
The goal of the 2009 Torino School Project is to promote the
event and involve the school world by sharing the values carried
by sport and in particular by athletics. The main public is
represented by young students from 6 to 18 but the key point of
the Project is to reach the adults and above all families thanks to
schoolboys.
The formative and social value of the initiative has enabled us to
receive the support of the local Department of Education which
contributes to spread the message. The plan of the School Project
provides for a promotion of the event aimed at school and taking
place in the school, the participation of schools to the event
during the competition session (Friday morning) dedicated to
them, a special reception programme at the
Oval Lingotto, a transport plan and an
aimed promotion programme to which the
initiative “GIVE A NAME TO THE MASCOT”
belongs.
Schools have managed to transfer their passion,
their enthusiasm and their joy to
the big sport events hosted by Torino
and now recognised by the International
Sport Community as the pride among the
events organised in Piedmont. The 2009 European
Athletics Indoor Championships continue
this tradition.

Non c’è grande evento sportivo senza l’aiuto di una grande
squadra con un grande cuore e una grande passione: quella dei
volontari.
Anche i Campionati Europei Indoor di Torino 2009 avranno un
loro team di volontari, pronti a vivere le Athletic Emotions da vicino
e nel cuore dell’evento. I settori di attività spaziano su tutti
gli aspetti di un grande evento sportivo: l’accoglienza del pubblico,
i servizi per gli atleti e per i media, la logistica, i trasporti,
l’accoglienza e le attività per le scuole. Una grande team con la
passione per gli eventi ma anche competente per il quale sono
stati fissati dei criteri di selezione e dei corsi di formazione.
Le iscrizioni, aperte a persone di tutte le età e nazionalità, si possono

I corsi di formazione si articoleranno in due momenti: il primo,
nel periodo che va dall’11 ottobre al 31 dicembre, prevede l’informazione
sui temi dell’assistenza e del pronto soccorso, della gestione
di situazioni di emergenza e della struttura generale
dell’evento. Il secondo momento prenderà il via a gennaio e sarà
condotto separatamente da ogni settore che formerà così la propria
squadra di assistenti.
Il reclutamento dei volontari è anche un momento di coinvolgimento
del territorio, come il Piemonte ha ben dimostrato durante
le Olimpiadi, un’occasione per trasferire alla stessa città lo
spirito dell’evento. Nel caso dei Campionati Europei Indoor di
Torino 2009 questo coinvolgimento ha riguardato anche le stesse
società di atletica del territorio che partecipano con i propri giovani
atleti (13-17 anni) nella qualità di portatori delle ceste.

There is no big sport event without the help of a great team with
a great heart and a great passion: this is the team of volunteers.
The 2009 European Athletics Indoor Championships will have
their team of volunteers who are ready to feel the Athletics Emotions
closely and in the heart of the event. The activities range
over all aspects of a great sport event from the reception of the
crowd to services for the athletes and the media, to logistics,
transport and activities for schools. A great but also qualified
team with the passion for events for whom selection criteria
have been set and training courses are organised.
You can enrol in these courses, which are open to persons of all
ages and nationalities, by sending a form to which you can have
access from the internet website www.torino2009.org .
The training courses will be divided in two parts: in the first period
from 11 October to 31 December participants are informed
on assistance and first aid, on dealing with emergency situations
and on the general structure of the event. The second part will
start in January and will be carried out separately by each sector
which forms its own team of assistants.
The recruitment of volunteers is also a way to involve the region,
as Piedmont well showed during the Olympic Games. It will be
the chance to transfer the event’s spirit to the same city. In the
case of the 2009 European Athletics Indoor Championships in
Turin athletics clubs of this area have also been involved. They
take part with their own young athletes, who are between 13 and
17, as basket-bearers.
