Con l’arrivo della primavera le piazze, i giardini e le passeggiate di Bolzano 

si tingono di tutti i colori e la città si trasforma in un mare di colori, profumi e 

sensazioni. Il culmine della bella stagione è da 125 anni il tradizionale mercato 

dei fiori. Per il primo maggio Piazza Walther si trasforma in un autentico campo 

di fiori. Per la ricorrenza dei 125 anni quest´anno la mostra si espande attorno 

al Duomo, dove rimarrà aperta per una settimana.Con il sole primaverile torna 

la voglia di camminare e di stare all’aria aperta e Bolzano si rivela come ideale 

punto di partenza per escursioni di ogni tipo. Il programma propone gite guidate 

di ogni tipo - dalla passeggiata in centro alla gita alpina - di ogni tipo. Guide 

esperte aiuteranno a scoprire le bellezze e i segreti di Bolzano, uno ad uno. 

Auguriamo una buona lettura sperando che sfogliando il bm possiate trovare

Blumenmeer. Plätze, Grünflächen, Promenaden erstrahlen in einem 

Feuerwerk an Farben. Den Auftakt zur schönsten Saison des Jahres gibt 

eine der traditionsreichsten Veranstaltungen unserer Stadt, der Bozner 

Blumenmarkt, der heuer sein 125-jähriges Bestehen feiert. Die Südtiroler 

Gärtner bieten am Waltherplatz alles was das Herz von Blumen- und Pflanzenliebhabern 

begehrt an. Eine Blumenschau rund um den Dom vervollständigt 

den Zauber des Frühlings. Mit den freundlicheren Temperaturen 

wird auch die Wander- und Ausflugslust wieder geweckt. Bozen ist der 

ideale Ausgangspunkt für Exkursionen jeder Art: das Verkehrsamt Bozen 

hat ein vielfältiges Programm an geführten Wanderungen ausgearbeitet. 

Die Kultur, die Geschichte, die Naturschönheiten unserer Stadt und der 

Umgebung werden in Begleitung erfahrener Gästeführer erkundet. Bestimmt 

finden Sie etwas, das Ihr persönliches Interesse anspricht und Sie 

zu einem Besuch unserer Stadt inspirieren kann! 

Springtime turns our landscape into a sea of flowers. Town squares, parks, 

promenades burst into colour. What for many people here is their favourite 

season is seen in by Bolzano’s traditional flower market, which celebrates its 

125th anniversary this year. South Tyrol’s horticulturalists present themselves 

to great effect in the Waltherplatz, offering floral displays that will impress all 

flower-lovers. A special display around the cathedral to mark the anniversary 

will be an extra attraction. With the warmer temperatures also walkers and hikers 

will be encouraged to get their boots on again! Bolzano, the gateway to the 

Dolomites, ist the ideal starting point for all sorts of excursions. Bolzano Tourist 

Office also offers a varied programme of excursions led by experienced 

guides, focussing not only on nature but also on the culture, the history. We are 

sure that you will find something that awakes your personal interest in

Der Raniglerhof und Museum seine Jahrhundert-Bäume 

für moderne Kunst 

Ein Hof wie aus alter Zeit, ein verwunschener Ort, ein magischer Platz 

– der Raniglerhof thront hoch über der Eggentaler Schlucht, an Bozens 

äußerster Ostgrenze, vor sich das Latemarmassiv. In der Tiefe das enge,

ancient yews, almost supporting 

each other in their old age, 

surely unique south of the Alps.

discernible in spring and autumn: 

the female yew bears salmon-pink 

blossoms and then attractive but 

poisonous red fruit in autumn, 

whereas the male tree bears 

spherical, yellowish cones. 

The Raniglerhof was first mentioned 

in documents dating back 

to the 12th century. The yews are 

most probably older, their trunks 

measuring a circumference of 

4.80 metres. Up at the top the 

trees still sprout fresh shoots while 

nearer the bottom the hollowedout 

but still-mighty trunks appear 

like sculptures, notched over centuries 

by wind and weather. The 

Raniglerhof’s massive yews still 

await research.

are regarded as highly poisonous, 

containing the toxin Taxane B, 

whereas the Pacific yew contains a 

substance, Paclitaxel, used to treat 

breast and cervical cancer. 

The Raniglerhof farmer Heinrich 

Rainer keeps cattle. His farm 

extends from the rushing river at 

the bottom of the Eggental gorge 

right up to an altitude of 1200 metres. 

His woods and meadows are 

extremely steep and he tries to 

farm both as naturally as possible. 

His farmland also includes a 

mixed forest with a lot of 250-yearold 

beech trees and even some 

willows skirt his meadows, a tree 

that has largely disappeared in 

South Tyrol. In the past, farmers 

used to use the twigs of the willow 

to tie the shoots of the vines to 

the pergolas, to make wickerwork 

or to hang up the hams of speck. 

Now in spring you can enjoy the 

caress of the fresh green twigs as 

you walk under them. The scent 

of the lilies-of-the-valley intertwine 

with the hum of the bees and the 

chirping of the crickets. The steep 

slopes of the meadows beckon 

with their bright flowers, as does 

the forest with its myriad shades 

of green. A cuckoo calls. Time 

stands still... a springtime 

dream.

Per la seconda volta infatti, nell’ambito del Festival 

del Gusto Alto Adige, i dodici gruppi di prodotti si presentano 

tutti insieme all’insegna del motto: “Gustare 

con tutti i sensi”. 

Il Festival del Gusto a Bolzano è la punta di diamante 

della terra del gusto Alto Adige/Südtirol e dei suoi 

prodotti di qualità e rappresenta il biglietto da visita 

del nostro territorio. Il marchio di qualità Alto Adige è 

stato introdotto nel 2005 insieme al marchio ombrello 

e comprende dodici gruppi di prodotti agroalimentari. 

Come si presentano la Mela, 

il Latte e lo Speck 

Nel giardino della mela tra piazza Municipio e vicolo 

Gumer tutto ruota attorno alla Mela Alto Adige IGP – 

dalla coltivazione ed immagazzinamento fino ai diversi 

stadi lavorativi svolti dai contadini altoatesini nel corso 

dell’anno. Un prato con veri alberi di mela in piazza 

Municipio è pensato soprattutto per il pubblico dei più 

piccoli ed offrirà un programma variegato. A Palazzo 

Campofranco entra invece in scena il Latte Alto Adige 

in una luce tutta moderna: una presentazione multisensoriale 

dà ai visitatori la possibilità di conoscere questo 

alimento ricco di tradizione sotto una nuova prospettiva. 

Anche i bambini approfittano di tanto gioco e divertimento. 

Lo Speck Alto Adige IGP è invece situato nel mondo 

dello speck tra la piazzetta e via della Mostra. Qui i 

visitatori si possono informare sulla produzione dello 

Speck Alto Adige e sull’impiego di questa specialità 

nella cucina tradizionale e moderna. 

Il Miglio del gusto 

I gruppi di prodotti dell’Alto Adige che si possono degustare 

ed acquistare al miglio del gusto sono: pane e 

prodotti da forno, verdura, piccoli frutti e ciliege, pro- 

dotti da frutta, miele, grappa, erbe aromatiche e carne 

di manzo. Tutti questi alimenti portano il marchio di 

qualità Alto Adige. Passando per piazza Walther il miglio 

del gusto si estende da via Argentieri e da via della 

Mostra fino a piazza del Grano, dove è protagonista il 

Pane dell’Alto Adige.

L’ormai conosciuta Mostra Vini di Bolzano è anche per 

il 2013 una delle perle del Festival del Gusto e avrà 

luogo tra lo storico Museo Mercantile in via Argentieri 

e l’elegante Parkhotel Laurin. Al Museo Mercantile è 

in programma un’esclusiva degustazione al tavolo, nel 

corso della quale saranno presentati pregiati vini ‘in anteprima’. 

Tali vini saranno disponibili sul mercato entro 

la fine dell’anno. 

Il Parkhotel Laurin offrirà invece una degustazione varietale 

di diverse annate, a cui si aggiungono il “Wineparty 

Alto Adige” il venerdì sera e la colazione di spumante 

“Swinging Blubbles” la domenica mattina, che 

concluderà in bellezza l’evento. 

Arte culinaria in Piazza Walther 

Il variegato programma che attende i visitatori nel centro 

storico di Bolzano prevede show culinari sul palco 

da parte dei migliori chef altoatesini, un ristorante del 

gusto in piazza Walter, corsi di cucina e molteplici seminari 

sensoriali così come diversi interventi musicali 

che accompagnano il tour di piacere enogastronomico 

del festival.

Ein Wochenende für große und kleine Genießer, für raffinierte Gourmets und all 

jene, die Wert auf natürliche und qualitativ hochwertige Ernährung legen, ohne

Apfel, Milch, Speck und Wein bester Qualität - natürlich 

aus Südtirol - stehen im Mittelpunkt des zweiten 

Genussfestivals in Bozen. 

Fantasievolle Verarbeitungsarten, traditionelle und 

neue Rezepturen sind Zeichen der außergewöhnlichen 

Vielfalt der Südtiroler Produkte, die mit dem 2005 

eingeführten Qualitätssiegel ausgezeichnet sind. 

Jede der insgesamt zwölf Produktgruppen präsentiert 

sich an einem anderen Platz in der historischen 

Altstadt. Zwischen Rathausplatz und Gumergasse 

wartet ein Apfelhain mit Spielen und Verkostungen 

auf die großen und kleinen Besucher. Im Palais Campofranco 

gibt es Sinnliches rund um die Milch, das 

Südtiroler Traditionsprodukt par excellence, zu erleben. 

In der Mustergasse und am Musterplatz geht es um 

den Speck und die vielseitigen Verwendungsmöglichkeiten 

dieses Südtiroler Qualitätsproduktes in der traditionellen 

und modernen Küche.

Genussfestivals entlang der Gourmetmeile verkostet 

und gekauft werden, die sich vom Waltherplatz 

über die Silbergasse bis hin zum Kornplatz erstreckt. 

Bozner Weinkost 

Eines der Highlights des Genussfestivals ist die Bozner 

Weinkost, Veranstaltung mit langjähriger Tradition, 

die den Besuchern die edlen Tropfen aus Südtirols 

Kellereien vorstellt. Im Merkantilmuseum können 

Weine verkostet werden, die erst zum Jahresende 

auf den Markt kommen. Alles potentielle Anwärter auf 

höchste Auszeichnungen. 

Auftakt zur Weinkost ist am Freitagabend die Südtiroler 

Wineparty im Parkhotel Laurin. In der Laurin Bar 

werden während des Wochenendes ausgezeichnete 

Jahrgangsweine vorgestellt. Mit einem Sektfrühstück 

unter dem Motto “Swinging Bubbles” klingt die Weinkost 

am Sonntagmorgen aus.

Sie dürfen natürlich nicht fehlen, wenn es um Genuss 

geht. Am Waltherplatz geben die besten Südtiroler 

Chefs eine Kostprobe ihres Könnens und lassen sich

und Sinnesschulungen gehören ebenso zum Festival 

wie das Genuss-Restaurant am Waltherplatz. Und sie

From 24 th to 26 th May 2013 the town centre of Bolzano will host an openair 

gastronomic festival, enabling visitors and locals alike to sample the

Sie sehen aus wie gigantische gezackte Dinosaurierzähne. Dicke, dünne, 

manche zehn Meter, manche bis zu 30 Meter hoch. Auf der Spitze 

tragen sie einen mehr oder weniger großen Stein. 

Die Erdpyramiden sind auch tatsächlich ein steinzeitliches 

Phänomen. Steinharter Muränenlehm, der durch 

den Deckstein vor Erosion geschützt wird. Die schönsten 

Erdpyramiden Europas sind am Ritten zu finden. 

Eine Frühlingswanderung. 

Man nehme einen schönen Frühlingstag, etwas Zeit, 

gutes Schuhwerk, eventuell ein paar Stöcke, da es sehr 

steil werden kann, einen kleinen Rucksack mit Wasser, 

eine leichte Jacke und eine Kopfbedeckung und schon 

kann es losgehen. Eine leichte Halbtags-Wanderung, 

die ihren Anfang mitten in der Stadt nimmt. An der Talstation 

der Rittner Seilbahn. 

bevor die Kabine in die Bergstation einfährt, wird der 

Blick auf den Rittner Ortsteil Maria Himmelfahrt frei. 

Am Ritten gibt es an mehreren Orten Erdpyramiden. 

Am bekanntesten sind wohl jene in Klobenstein, unser 

Spazierweg führt hingegen an den Erdpyramiden 

von Oberbozen vorbei. An der Bergstation geht es 

zunächst nach links den Bahnsteig entlang bis zu einer 

weiteren Abzweigung nach links. Ab hier ist die Strecke, 

die unter der Bergstation entlangführt, ausgeschildert. 

Durch einen Buschwald geht es nun den alten historischen 

Weg entlang talwärts, der einst die einzige Verbindung 

von Bozen mit Oberbozen war. 

Schon die Seilbahnfahrt stimmt ein auf die bevorstehende 

Wanderung. Während die Kabine gen 

Himmel steigt, liegt einem erst der dörfliche Stadtteil 

St. Magdalena und dann die ganze Stadt zu Füßen, 

rechterhand eröffnet sich ein atemberaubendes Panorama 

auf Schlern, Rosengarten und Latemar. Kurz 

Schon bald öffnet sich der Wald auf eine Wiese, deren 

Rand von den Erdpyramiden gesäumt ist. Hinter den braunen 

Erdsäulen wird der Blick auf den Bozner Talkessel frei. 

Erdpyramiden sind ein erstaunliches Naturdenkmal, 

das in ständigem Wachsen und Zerfall begriffen ist.

Un monumento naturale: Le piramidi di terra a Soprabolzano 

Die Erdsäulen bilden sich in Hanglagen, die auf einer 

Seite windgeschützt sind. Im Muränenlehm, der 

von den Eiszeitgletschern zurückgeblieben ist, sind 

immer wieder Steine eingeschlossen. Unterhalb von 

diesen Steinen wird der Lehm steinhart und ist geschützt 

vor Regen und Schnee. Rundherum fließt der 

mit Schnee oder Regen aufweichende Lehm zu Tal. 

Unter dem Steindeckel bleibt eine mehr oder weniger 

breite Erdzacke zurück. Im Lauf der Jahre können 

diese bis zu 30 Metern hoch werden. Sie verdünnen 

sich dabei zusehends und nehmen bizarre, kantige 

Formen an. Irgendwann kippt der Stein dann nach unten, 

die Erdpyramide wird zuckerhutähnlich abgerundet 

und beginnt sich nach und nach aufzulösen. Aber 

nebenan wächst schon die nächste in den Himmel. 

Der Weg führt nun am alten Gemäuer der Zahnradbahn 

entlang, die bis 1961 das Stadtzentrum 

mit dem Ritten verband. Wer nach etwa einer Stunde 

Fußmarsch schon müde ist, kann einen kleinen 

Umweg zum Ebnicherhof nehmen und eine 

Stärkungspause einlegen. Dieser alte Bozner Hof, der 

von Wiesen und einem alten Kastanienhain umgeben 

ist, liegt auf einem kleinen Hochplateau, das in den 

Steilhang eingeschoben scheint. 

Zurück in die Stadt gen St. Magdalena wird es nun 

immer steiler. Der Eichen-Buschwald ist längst den 

Reben gewichen, die im Her bst Vernatsch- und 

Lagreintrauben tragen, aus denen der St. Magdalener 

Wein gewonnen wird, ein Cuvée aus etwa 5 

% Lagrein und Vernatsch. Wir sind fast am Ende 

der Wanderung angelangt. Als Abschluss empfiehlt 

sich eine Einkehr in den Steidlerhof, auf ein Glas 

St. Magdalener und eine deftige Brotzeit oder einen 

frischgebackenen Apfelstrudel. Bis zurück ins 

Stadtzentrum sind es noch etwa zwanzig Minuten 

zu laufen.

e acuminati. Possono raggiungere anche i 30 metri d’altezza. 

Sono le piramidi di terra, il fenomeno geologico più 

singolare dell’altopiano del Renon. Sono costituite di 

materiale morenico di lontana origine glaciale e sono 

in continua trasformazione a causa dell’erosione. Una 

meta ideale per una passeggiata primaverile. 

e Latemar. Sotto i piedi c’è Bolzano con la suggestiva 

frazione di Santa Maddalena. Davanti si possono già 

intravedere le piramidi di terra e poco prima dell’arrivo 

si apre anche uno scorcio sulla località di Maria 

Assunta. 

Gli ingredienti che servono sono davvero pochi: 

mezza giornata di tempo libero, un paio di buone scarpe, 

i bastoncini per affrontare la discesa, un piccolo 

zaino con qualcosa da bere, un berretto per ripararsi 

dal sole e una giacca leggera perché non si sa mai. L’inizio 

del percorso è in centro città, alla stazione a valle 

della funivia del Renon. Salendo con la telecabina si 

gode di un panorama mozzafiato su Sciliar, Catinaccio 

Le piramidi di terra sono presenti in tre zone distinte del 

Renon: a Monte di Mezzo, a Soprabolzano e ad Auna di 

Sotto. La nostra passeggiata porta a quelle di Soprabolzano. 

Dirigendosi a sinistra si passa sotto la stazione a monte 

della funivia e a quel punto basta seguire le indicazioni per 

le piramidi. Percorrendo il vecchio sentiero che per lunghi 

anni è stato l’unico collegamento con Bolzano, si attraversa 

un boschetto per poi raggiungere un grande prato al

cui bordo si possono già intravedere queste strane punte a 

zig zag. Alle loro spalle si apre la conca di Bolzano. 

Queste strane stele di terra rossastra, compatta e dura 

come la pietra, sono in gran parte caratterizzate da un 

masso sulla punta. Ed è qui che si nasconde il segreto 

delle Piramidi. Il materiale morenico ingloba materiale 

pietroso e qualche masso si ferma determinando la 

nascita di queste formazioni geologiche colonnari. La 

presenza del sasso poggiato sulla punta protegge infatti 

il materiale sottostante dall’erosione. La terra così modellata 

guadagna sempre più in altezza, assottigliandosi 

progressivamente fino a che la pietra non è più sostenuta 

e finisce a sua volta col cadere. A questo punto la 

colonna prende la tipica forma di un pan di zucchero 

iniziando rapidamente ad erodersi, proprio mentre accanto 

si sta formando una nuova piramide.

L’ultima parte della passeggiata è sempre più in discesa. 

Dopo il boschetto si attraversano le vigne dove 

crescono uve Lagrein e Schiava. Il famoso Santa Maddalena 

infatti è un cuvée ottenuto da circa 5 % di uva 

Lagrein mista con uva Schiava. Siamo quasi alla fine 

della nostra gita. Lo Steidlerhof in cima alla stradina 

che riporta in 20 minuti in Via Renon e in centro sembra 

perfetto per un’ulteriore pausa, magari davanti ad un 

bicchiere di Santa Maddalena accompagnato da un 

po’ di speck o da una fetta di strudel appena sfornato. 

Il sentiero segue ora le vecchie mura della funicolare 

che fino al 1961 collegava il Renon con Bolzano. Chi 

dopo un’ora circa di camminata sente già un po’ di stan-

And they really do date back to ancient times, to the ice ages, 

when the clay of glacial morraines was mixed with harder stones 

and boulders, which protected the softer material underneath from 

erosion. Europe’s most beautiful earth pyramids are to be found on 

the Ritten. A spring-time walk enables us to explore them. Choose 

a nice spring day, a bit of free time, sturdy shoes, perhaps some 

poles, as it can get quite steep, a small backpack with water, a light 

jacket, a hat, and now you can set off. This is an easy half-day walk, 

starting from the centre of town, at the valley station of the Ritten 

cable-car. 

Already the trip up in the cable-car prepares you for 

the walk ahead. As the cabin heads upwards, you first 

pass above the village of St. Magdalena, soon afterwards 

the whole town of Bolzano is at your feet, and 

to your right the vista opens up on the breathtaking 

mountains of the Schlern, the Rosengarten and the 

Latemar ranges. 

The Ritten plateau contains several clusters of earth 

pyramids, probably the most famous being the ones

near Klobenstein. But our walk takes us past the earth 

pyramids of Oberbozen. From the mountain station of 

the cable-car, turn left along the railway line, then left 

again at a crossroads. The path, which soon takes you 

back under the cable-car, is well signposted from here. 

You now follow an ancient way down through shrubs 

which, in days gone by, was the only connection between 

Bolzano and Oberbozen. 

After a while, you come out of the woods onto a meadow, 

the side of which is lined with earth pyramids.Behind 

these towering columns of earth you can make out 

down below the town of Bolzano and the surrounding 

area. The earth pyramids are a remarkable natural monument, 

in constant flux, with old ones collapsing and 

new ones forming. The columns of earth are generally 

formed on wind-protected slopes. The clay of the morraines 

of the ice-age glaciers often contains boulders, 

below which the clay is packed hard and is protected 

against rain and snow, forming the columns of earth, 

whereas the unprotected clay is gradually washed 

away by the elements. Over time these columns can become up to 

30 metres high, constantly becoming thinner and assuming bizarre 

shapes. Sooner or later the stone-cap tumbles down, and the earth 

column is once more at the mercy of the elements, slowly being 

washed down again. But nearby, new ones are being formed. The 

path now leads past the embankment of the old cog-railway, which 

until 1961 connected the town with the Ritten. Whoever is tired can 

make a short detour to the Ebnicherhof, a good farm to stop off for 

something to eat and drink. This old Bolzano farmstead, surrounded 

by meadows and sweet chestnut groves, is situated on a little plateau 

halfway up the steep slopes. 

The way down towards St. Magdalena and the town is now quite 

steep. The dwarf-oak shrub forest now gives way to vineyards 

which in autumn bear the Vernatsch and Lagrein grapes, from which 

the St. Magdalener wine is made, a cuvée of around 5% Lagrein 

and Vernatsch. We have almost reached the end of our walk, and 

to round it off, a visit to the Steidlerhof farm is recommended, to 

sample the St. Magdalener , accompanied by hearty South Tyrolean 

fare or a freshly-made apple strudel. From here down to 

town is only around another 20 minutes.

Während die Eltern durch die Stände schlendern und 

das ein oder andere verkosten, können die kleinen Besucher 

ihre Kreativität ausleben, am bunten Spielprogramm 

teilnehmen oder den Osterzoo mit Hasen und 

Lämmern besuchen.

Sie ist die älteste Mühle Bozens und auch die einzige. Die 1599 erstmals 

erwähnte Schlösslmühle in der St. Antonstraße. Seit 200 Jahren wird sie 

von der Familie Silbernagl betrieben.

“Cereali e non solo – Getreide und mehr…” an diesem 

Schild kann man die Schlösslmühle erkennen. Der 

85jährige Josef Silbernagl, der mit seinen Söhnen Paul 

und Klaus die Familientradition als Müller fortführt, ist 

der beste Beweis dafür, wie gesund frischgemahlenes 

Getreide ist. Die Schösslmühle ist längst nicht mehr nur 

Mühle, sondern führt auch einen Detailhandel mit allerlei 

gemahlenem Getreide und Schrot mit täglich frischem 

Brot, Pizzen, Teigwaren und vielen anderen Produkten. 

Mit dem Bau des Wasserkraftwerks 

Rendelstein 1956 stellte die Schlösslmühle 

ihre Produktion von Wasser 

auf Elektrizität um. Der Kanal wurde 

zugeschüttet, wie so viele andere 

Stadtbäche auch.

ANTICHI SAPORI 

Da 200 anni gestito dalla famiglia Silbernagl sforna 

cereali, semi, farine per pasta, pane, torte, pizze, con 

prodotti locali e da tutto il mondo, Canada compreso.

“Cereali e non solo –Getreide und mehr…”: questa 

la curiosa “insegna” dipinta sull’architrave d’ingresso 

dell’edificio collocato in una posizione strategica, alla 

periferia nord di Bolzano, di fronte all’imbocco della 

passeggiata Sant’Osvaldo. Dietro la facciata dipinta 

di fresco, apparentemente moderna, si nasconde infatti 

una duplice testimonianza storica: una delle più 

antiche attività produttive dell’uomo, nonché l’unico e 

quindi più antico mulino superstite di Bolzano ancora 

in piena funzione: la “Schloesslmuehle”, letteralmente 

“mulino del castelletto”. Qui gli ultimi discendenti della 

famiglia Silbernagl, Josef, 85 anni saldamente sotto 

controllo, con i due figli Paul e Klaus continuano una 

tradizione di famiglia risalente a circa 200 anni fa: la 

lavorazione, cioè la macinatura di 

una miriade di cereali accanto alla 

vendita diretta dei derivati, vale a 

dire farine di varia natura, provenienti 

non solo dalle valli altoatesine, 

ma dai Paesi più disparati, Canada 

compreso; un autentico bazar 

di cereali e alimenti derivati, un vero 

paradiso per quanti apprezzano i 

prodotti genuini usciti dal forno.

va dal mais per la polenta in diverse 

varietà, dalla gialla a quella

tempo, all’antico farro, oggi molto 

di moda, così come il kamut, per 

arrivare in ambito globale alla farina 

“Manitoba”, una polvere finissima, 

considerata forte, resistente 

al freddo, una polvere bianca che 

prende il nome dall’omonima pro- 

vincia canadese, adatta a panettone, pandoro, pizza, 

baguette francese. Non va dimenticato il celebre 

Muesli svizzero, miscela di farro, grano, orzo, fiocchi 

d’avena “condita” con latte di soia, mela grattugiata e 

pezzi di frutta varia. E non è finita: nei sacchi allineati al 

centro del negozio, “brillano” anche ben cinque tipi di 

riso, fagioli di varia natura, ceci, fave, orzo, semi di lino, 

girasole, zucca e così via. A tutto questo si aggiungono, 

oltre a prodotti biologici, anche paste e miscele in 

confezione: inutile dire che il negozio benché periferico 

è frequentato oltre che da locali, anche da turisti italiani, 

tedeschi, svizzeri e qualche “nordico”.

dei masi di montagna. Il mulino allora macinava con la 


forza dell’acqua grazie a un’antica roggia derivata dal vicino 

Talvera presso Castel Rendelstein (Sant’Antonio) scendendo 

verso il centro storico attraverso via Weggenstein, fino a Dodiciville, 

fornendo energia a un lunghissimo “filare” di aziende unico mulino sopravvissuto, appunto la “Schloessmuehle” dal 

ca con conseguente conversione e modernizzazione dell’ 

artigiane: oltre a vari mulini, muoveva i magli dei fabbri, quale nel frattempo, dato il calo di produzione di cereali locali 

macchine dei conciapelli, di calzolai e quant’altro. La svolta sopraffatti dalle uve da vino, nonché la concorrenza delle 

modernizzatrice risale al 1956, quando fu avviata la centrale grandi industrie, incominciarono a uscire redditizi mangimi 

idroelettrica “Rendelstein”, allora della società trentina STE per il bestiame che fecero rifiorire l’azienda, segnando però 

che assorbì tutta l’acqua, fornendo in cambio energia elettri-

It’s Bolzano’s oldest and now only mill. First 

mentioned in 1599, the Schlösslmühle in the 

St Antonstrasse has been run by the Silbernagl 

family for 200 years.

“Cereali e non solo – Getreide und mehr” (grains and 

much else besides) is written on the sign at the Schlösslmühle. 

85-year-old Josef Silbernagl, who together with 

his sons Paul and Klaus maintain the family’s milling 

tradition, bears living testimony to how healthy freshlyground 

grains are. The Schlösslmühle has long been 

more than just a mill, it’s also a little shop selling not only 

freshly-ground grains but also fresh bread, pizzas, pasta 

and much else besides. 

The Silbernagl family, originally from Kastelruth, 

took over the mill 200 years ago. In those days the 

millstones were powered by water diverted from the 

river Talfer along a mill-channel starting near Schloss 

Rendelstein in St Anton and continuing via the Weggenstein 

street to the suburb of Zwölfmalgreien, and 

which powered the workshops of many other craftsmen: 

blacksmiths, tanners, cobblers and dyers, 

among many others. 

When the hydroelectric power station of Rendelstein 

was built in 1956, the Schlösslmühle switched from water 

power to electricity and the old mill-channel was filled 

in, as happened to many other minor water-courses in 

Bolzano. The Schlösslmühle is not only a mecca for cereal 

and müsli-eaters. You can also buy freshly-milled 

South Tyrolean grains, various types of polenta (maizemeal), 

buckwheat and also more unusual grains like kamut 

and Canadian Manitoba wheat, various müsli blends 

with shredded rye, barley and oats, rice, oatflakes, pulses 

and nuts. Many of these products are organic. 

So the Schlösslmühle is definitely worth a visit and the 

wonderful Oswald promenade starts just opposite...

Castel Trostburg ovvero Castel 

Forte fu costruito su di un’altura in 

posizione dominante sul fiume Isarco 

e sulla valle sottostante. Viene 

menzionato la prima volta nel 1173 

con il nome di Cunrat de Trosperch. 

Fino all’inizio del Trecento fu sede 

di una stirpe di cavalieri briganti. 

L’Alto Adige vanta la più alta densità 

di castelli in Europa. Castel 

Trostburg vicino a Ponte Gardena è 

sicuramente uno dei più belli. Dal 

2005 è anche sede del Museo dei 

Castelli dell’Alto Adige con tanto di 

plastici che raccontano storia e importanza 

di questi edifici imponenti, 

testimoni di un passato glorioso. 

Il mastio, la cinta e il palazzo settentrionale 

furono costruiti all’inizio 

del Duecento quando il castello fu 

abitato dalla famiglia von Velthurns. 

Dei veri briganti che avevano imparato 

a sfruttare la posizione strategica 

del castello. Successivamente 

il maniero passò nelle mani dei 

Conti di Tirolo e infine, dal 1370, 

per ben 600 anni, alla famiglia von 

Wolkenstein. Nel periodo del barone 

Engelhard Dietrich von Wolkenstein, 

attorno al 1633, il castello ricevette 

una forte impronta rinascimentale 

di cui danno testimonianza 

ancora oggi il sistema di difesa, la 

cappella, la Sala dei Cavalieri e le 

pregevoli stufe di maiolica. 

Un progressivo stato di abbandono 

e la Seconda Guerra Mondiale 

portarono il castello in rovina. 

Fino al 1967, quando la Trostburg 

fu acquistata dal Südtiroler Burgeninstitut, 

che negli ultimi decenni ha 

avviato una massiccia campagna 

di restauro. 

Oggi infatti Castel Trostburg si offre 

al visitatore in tutta la sua bellezza. 

Non solo l’esterno, ma anche le 

sale sono tornate agli antichi fasti. 

Notevoli sono la stube gotica con la 

sua volta trilobata, gli affreschi tardogotici, 

le decorazioni della cappella 

e quella che può considerarsi 

una delle più belle sale rinascimentali 

del Tirolo storico. Il maniero 

inoltre è oggi la sede ufficiale 

del Südtiroler Burgeninstitut, ovvero 

dell’istituto che si occupa della 

tutela e della conservazione dei castelli 

in Alto Adige.

Castel Trostburg si trova nei pressi di Ponte Gardena tra Chiusa e Bolzano 

Nord. Si raggiunge il castello in un quarto d’ora a piedi dalla piazza di

Das Burgenjuwel 

Oswald von Wolkenstein erblickte hier das Licht der Welt. 

Unter Burgenfreunden und Wanderern gilt sie heute als 

absoluter Geheimtipp, die Trostburg, die bei Waidbruck 

weithin sichtbar über dem unteren Eisacktal thront.

Cunrat de Trosperch, so der Name 

unter dem sie 1173 das erste Mal 

erwähnt wurde. Bis Anfang des 14. 

Jahrhunderts ein Raubrittersitz. 

Südtirol ist eine der burgenreichsten 

Regionen in Europa. Die Trostburg 

darf sich zu den schönsten 

unter ihnen zählen. Seit 2005 beherbergt 

sie auch das Südtiroler 

Burgenmuseum, das in zahlreichen 

Modellen die Geschichte und Bedeutung 

dieser mächtigen Bauwerke 

nachzustellen sucht. 

Aber zurück zur Geschichte der 

Trostburg. Im frühen 13. Jahrhundert 

wird die erste Burganlage um 

Palas und Turm ergänzt. Burgherren 

sind die Brixner Stiftsministerialien 

von Velthurns, der Name mag 

über ihre wahre Berufung täuschen. 

Die Velthurner waren ohne Zweifel 

Raubritter, die die strategische Lage 

ihrer Burg für ihre Zwecke zu nutzen 

wussten, wie ein Text aus dem Jahre 

1256 belegt. In der Folge kam die 

Burg an die Grafen von Tirol, die sie 

den Herren von Villanders zu Lehen 

gaben. 1370/85 erbten schließlich 

die Herren von Wolkenstein, Fami- 

lie des berühmten Minnesängers 

Oswald, Burg und Gericht Trostburg. 

Anlage in ihrem alten Glanz wiedererstehen 

ließen. 

Die Nachkommen Michaels, 

des ältesten Bruders von Oswald, 

bauten die Trostburg allmählich 

aus. Der baufreudige Burgherr Dietrich 

von Wolkenstein verwandelte 

schließlich um 1633 die mächtige 

mittelalterliche Burganlage in eine 

widerstandsfähige Festung im Stil 

der Renaissance. 

Die sachkundige Restaurierung 

beschränkte sich nicht nur auf die 

Mauern. Auch im Inneren trifft der 

Besucher während einer Führung 

auf gut erhaltene und unerwartet 

reich ausgestattete Säle, wie den 

prunkvollen Rittersaal mit wappenverzierter 

Kassettendecke, die reich 

geschnitzte, dreifach gewölbte gotische 

Jahrhunderte mäßiger Nutzung 

führten zum Verfall der einst so imposanten 

Anlage; auch der Zweite 

Weltkrieg trug zu ihrer Zerstörung 

bei. Mit der Übernahme durch das 

Stube und die mit spätgotischer 

Wanddekoration verzierte Herrenstube 

und zahlreiche Renaissance-Kachelöfen. 

Des Weiteren beeindruckt 

Südtirols größte Torggl (Weinpresse). 

Südtiroler Burgeninstitut erlebte die 

Burganlage ab 1967 neuen Aufschwung.

eine schmale Straße nach dem Friedhof von Waidbruck

a picture-book castle in the Eisacktal valley 

Not only does South Tyrol have strikingly beautiful landscapes, but it is also 

an area with an extremely high density of castles. One of the jewels among 

the many castles that dot the landscape is undoubtedly the Trostburg, towering 

over the lower Eisack valley.

Developed into a nigh-impregnable 

fortress in the 17th century, this 

massive medieval castle complex 

impresses visitors with its unparalleled 

attractions and with its special 

atmosphere. 

The castle is mentioned in documents 

going back to 1173 but the 

keep and the great hall date back 

to the early 13th century. It belonged 

to the monastery of Brixen 

and the von Velthurns family held 

it as a fief, though they were little 

more than robber barons. The castle 

later passed first to the Counts 

of Tyrol and then to the Counts of 

Wolkenstein, of which one family 

member, Oswald von Wolkenstein, 

achieved considerable fame 

in German literature as a ‘Minnesänger’ 

or troubadour. 

Over the centuries the castle 

suffered from wear and tear, culminating

Sieben archäologische Funde und ihre Geheimnisse 

sind Gegenstand der neuen Jahresausstellung 

im Ötzimuseum. Eine Ausstellung, die die ganze 

Familie zusammen auf Spurensuche schickt.

Die Fundstücke stammen alle aus dem südlichen Alpenbogen, 

und spannen einen Bogen von der Urzeit 

bis zur Römerzeit. Welche Geheimnisse bergen wohl 

der rhätische Schlüssel, die römischen Spielsteine, das 

Bronzegefäß, der Mithrasstein, die Bernsteinperlen, die 

Stele mit rhätischer Inschrift sowie die drei (von hundert) 

im Moor gefundenen Schaufeln? 

Ein Museumsbesuch der anderen Art erwartet die 

Familien. Anstelle einer Führung zu folgen, gehen groß 

und klein gemeinsam auf Spurensuche. Im Dachgeschoss 

des Museums ist jedem der geheimnisvollen 

Funde je ein Zimmer gewidmet. 

mysteriX – Rätselhafte Funde aus Südtirol stellt die 

Besucher vor die Frage nach dem Nutzen der Gegenstände. 

Welche Regeln hatte das Würfelspiel? Wie 

kommen hundert Schaufeln ins Moor und Bernsteinperlen 

ins Schnalstal? Und wie hat der Schmied aus 

der Bronzezeit das mit Reliefs geschmückte Gefäß 

hergestellt, das bisher niemand in der Lage ist nachzubauen? 

Was steht auf der Mithras geweihten Stele. 

Mithras war eine iranische Gottheit, viele Anhänger 

dieses Kultes bekannten sich in der Römerzeit zum 

Christentum, um unerkannt zu sein. Dass dieser Kult 

auch im südlichen Alpenraum verbreitet war, beweist 

eine Mithrasstraße in Sterzing. Fragen über Fragen, 

die interakitv und gemeinsam gelöst werden sollen. 

Ein Museumsbesuch mit Suspense für die ganze 

Familie, der jedem Besucher Phantasie und Interpretationsgabe 

abfordert. Die Idee zu dieser ersten Familienausstellung 

stammt von Andreas Putzer. Auch 

in Zukunft wird es im Archäologiemuseum neben dem 

Eismann Ötzi und seinen faszinierenden Ausrüstungsgegenständen, 

die vor nunmehr zwanzig Jahren auf 

dem Ötztaler Gletscher gefunden wurden, jedes Jahr 

eine thematische Ausstellung geben. mysteriX läuft 

noch bis zum 19. Januar 2014. 

Auch die Ausstellung von Ötzi wurde für das neue 

Jahr aufgefrischt und mit neuem Informationsmaterial 

versehen.

Al Museo Archeologico di Bolzano la mostra “mysteriX” dedicata a bambini e genitori 

Il Dio Mitra, una chiave preistorica, un vaso 

Oggetti misteriosi 

ai tempi di Ötzi 

da ridipingere, analizzare frammenti d’ambra 

della Val Senales: tutto per stimolare la 

fantasia dei giovanissimi visitatori. 

Il Museo Archeologico di Bolzano, residenza stabile 

di Ötzi, la celeberrima mummia del Similaun, rinnova 

ancora una volta la propria immagine, questa volta in 

particolare per strizzare l’occhio a bimbi e ragazzi di 

varie fasce d’età insieme ai genitori attraverso una mostra 

temporanea per famiglie che resterà aperta fino al 

19 gennaio 2014, abbinata a un programma di interventi 

per rendere ancor più ricco, attrattivo e agevole 

l’intero itinerario museale. 

La prima autentica novità è stata battezzata “mysteriX 

– reperti enigmatici dell’Alto Adige”, titolo accattivante 

e misterioso, giusto per stuzzicare la curiosità 

dei giovanissimi, anche se poco ha a che fare con personaggi 

“thriller” o dei fumetti. Al centro della mostra 

si trovano infatti reperti unici dell’Età del Bronzo, del 

Ferro e di epoca romana che stimolano la curiosità dei 

giovanissimi, posti davanti a un enigma: a cosa servivano 

questi oggetti e che significato avevano? “Cari 

bambini – suona l’invito di chi cura il Museo, dalla di- 

rettrice Angelika Fleckinger al curatore della mostra 

Andreas Putzer – fatevi avanti! Mettetevi nei panni della 

ricercatrice e del ricercatore e riflettete. Scoprite e 

create collegamenti. Fate un po’ di chiarezza! Svelate i 

segreti! A voi la soluzione dell’enigma”. 

In che consiste l’enigma o meglio “gli “ enigmi è presto 

detto: al terzo piano dell’edificio proprio sopra la 

sala dove “riposa” Ötzi (il cui sonno comunque non 

sarà turbato, anzi il nostro antenato forse sarebbe ben 

lieto di prendere parte al gioco coi suoi “ultra-pro-pronipoti”) 

i visitatori troveranno sette stanze che ospiteranno 

altrettanti reperti archeologici di epoche diverse, 

tutti affiorati dal sottosuolo in varie zone dell’Alto Adige. 

Ad esempio dovranno decifrare la scritta di una stele 

dedicata al Dio Mitra, una misteriosa divinità di origine 

iraniana i cui seguaci, per mantenerne il culto, in epoca 

romana cercarono di innestarlo sul Cristianesimo (a Vipiteno 

c’è tuttora una piazza intitolata a Mitra), ma senza 

successo. In un’altra stanza dovranno aprire una porta 

usando una misteriosa chiave preistorica; altro “quiz”, 

decorare un antico vaso in bronzo, oppure analizzare 

dei frammenti d’ambra trovati in Val Senales. Insomma 

una vera e propria mostra interattiva, ideata da Andreas 

Putzer, che ha cercato di lasciare alla libera immaginazione 

l’interpretazione dei reperti da parte dei ragazzi.

L’altra novità nel programma del Museo, ulteriormente 

arricchito con la trasformazione delle mostre temporanee 

in permanenti, riguarda il rinnovo dei canali d’informazione 

e la segnaletica per rendere l’itinerario più 

comprensibile; rinnovati anche gli elementi di richiamo, 

a cominciare da un nuovo logo raffigurante la sagoma 

di Ötzi “imprigionata” in un sorta di cubo di ghiaccio.

The first family-friendly exhibition about South Tyrol 

Seven archaeological finds and 

myteriX – puzzling 

and enigmatic facts 

about the past 

their enigmatic secrets are the 

subject of Ötzi Museum’s latest annual 

exhibition – one which sends 

the whole family packing to examine 

the evidence! 

The exhibits all come from different places on the southern 

slopes of the Alps and span the period from the 

Bronze Age to Roman times. What secrets are hidden 

in the Rhaetian key, the Roman dice, the bronze container, 

the Mithras stone, the amber beads, the stela or 

column with Rhaetian inscriptions and the three (out of 

100) shovels found in a bog? So this is a really unusual 

exhibition for families – instead of following a guide, 

young and old go looking for clues! A separate room in 

the top floor of the museum is dedicated to each of the 

seven enigmatic objects. 

mysteriX – mysterious finds from South Tyrol invite 

the visitor to work out the purpose of the objects. What 

were the rules of the game of dice? Why were there 100 

shovels in a bog? How did the Bronze Age amber beads 

from the Baltic get to the remote high alpine valley of 

Schnalstal? And how did the Bronze Age blacksmith craft 

the container decorated with intricate reliefs, something

no modern-day craftsman has been able to copy? What 

does the inscription on the stela or column dedicated to 

the Mithras say? Mithras was a Persian god and in Roman 

times many adherents of this religion professed to be 

Christians in order to remain undetected. A street named 

Mithrasstrasse in the town of Sterzing testifies to the popularity 

of this religion in those times in the mountains around 

here . So many questions, the answers to which have to 

be found interactively by the family members together. So 

this is a museum visit with suspense for the whole family, 

requiring from each visitor imagination and interpretive powers. 

The idea for this family-friendly exhibition stems from 

Andreas Putzer. The Archaeology Museum will continue to 

host a special annual exhibition every year alongside the 

main Ötzi the Iceman exhibition, with all his clothing and 

equipment, discovered over 20 years ago in the glaciers 

of the Ötztal Alps. MysteriX runs until 19th January 2014. 

The main Ötzi exhibition has been updated and 

incorporates new information material.

particolare estetica, che sta alla 

base del concetto. Lo spazio è importantissimo. 

Il pubblico invece è 

un’incognita ma cerchiamo sempre 

di tenere aperto un canale di comunicazione.

che la mostra venga spiegata

1363 The Turning Point 

The history of the early Hapsburgs in Tyrol dates back to 

the document of 26th January 1363 transferring the Tyrol to 

the House of Hapsburg. This document is on display as is a 

fascinating medieval manuscript about the use of poisons at 

this time. Another theme is the Florentine presence in Bolzano, 

as around this time the town became a major trade hub 

between the German- and Italian-speaking worlds.
