fabbrica artigianale specializzata
nella produzione di
poltrone in pelle; la qualità e l’eleganza
dei suoi prodotti sono tali
da divenire in pochi anni fornitrice
ufficiale della “Real Casa”.
Detto e fatto.
Possedere una poltrona Frau
diventa uno “status symbol”, l’emblema
di un modo di vita esclusivo
che privilegia la qualità e l’eleganza;
e coniuga la raffinatezza
con il piacere appagante di avere
qualcosa di unico.
Uomini politici e personaggi della
cultura, artisti e imprenditori, la
nuova “middle class” della finanza,
tutti decreteranno il successo
di questo prodotto.
La poltrona Frau entra nel mito.
Dopo cinquant’anni, nel 1962, un
nuovo gruppo finanziario rifonda
l’azienda con sede a Tolentino,
accettando la scommessa di
affrontare un mercato che sembrava
allettato soprattutto dal prodotto
economico.
Nel 1974 l’azienda assume una
vera e propria dimensione industriale.
Questo significò accentuare lo
spirito atipico e apparentemente
contraddittorio che fondeva carat-

di Pallavolo e gioca nel

VolleyBergamo.
È stata la prima
giocatrice italiana
ingaggiata per un
campionato all’estero:
ha giocato infatti in
Brasile, con il team
Rexona Curitiba.
Bella è bella… ma quello che
traspare da questa ragazza
dal fisico statuario è sicuramente
la determinazione e l’amore
per lo sport che ormai pratica da
13 anni.
Nonostante gli apprezzamenti per
l’indiscussa bellezza, è solo nell’ottobre
del 2000, infatti, che debutta
sulla passerella di Laura Biagiotti,
assieme a tutti i campioni delle
olimpiadi di Sidney. L’apice lo
raggiunge, però, nel 2003 quando
viene eletta protagonista del calendario
di Men’s Health, che, guarda
caso, si intitola, per l’appunto
“Olimpiadi 2004” in cui Picci, così

viene generalmente chiamata dagli
intimi, pratica ogni mese uno sport
diverso. Dalla vela al ciclismo, ma
anche nuoto, arco, e naturalmente
volley, che oggi, anche grazie alla
presenza di questa atleta, rappresenta
il terzo sport in rosa dopo
ginnastica e nuoto per numero di
praticanti, circa centottantacinquemila
tesserate.
Francesca Piccinini, 25 anni, alta
1,84 per 74 kg di peso, schiacciatrice
della nazionale femminile di
pallavolo, preferisce, però, dimostrare
sul campo sportivo il proprio
valore.
Nata a San Carlo Borromeo Massa
il 10 gennaio 1979, esordisce in B2
nella stagione 1992-93, per passare
nelle file dell’A1 l’anno successivo.
Premiata già 3 volte a 18 anni
dalla Federazione italiana come
miglior under 20, a 19 anni
Francesca è la prima giocatrice italiana
ad emigrare all’estero dove si
lancia nell’avventura brasiliana con
il team Rexona Curitiba. Un anno
più tardi torna in Italia per vestire la
maglia della Volley Bergamo con
cui conquista una Coppa dei
Campioni, una Supercoppa italiana,
il primo posto della classifica
del campionato 2000/2001 e lo
scudetto 2001/2002.
Con la nazionale azzurra, con cui
ha esordito nel 1996 in occasione
delle qualificazioni olimpiche in
Giappone, ha invece vinto la
medaglia di bronzo all’Europeo
’99, la medaglia d’argento ai campionati
europei nel 2001 e la
“Olympics 2004”, in which Picci
engages in a different sport every
month. From sailing to bicycling,
but also swimming, archery and
of course volley ball, which today,
thanks to the presence of this athlete,
is the third sport, in numbers
of female participants – 185,000 -
after gymnastics and swimming.
Francesca Piccinini, 25 years of
age, 1.84 m tall, 74 kgs. in the
buff and smasher of the national
female volley ball team, prefers to
show her prowess on the playing
field.
Born in San Carlo Borromeo
Massa on the 10th of January
1979, she made her debut in B2
during the 1992-93 season, then
graduated to A1 the following
year. Named three times at the age
of 18 by the National Federation
as the best player under 20,
Francesca at 19 was the first
Italian player to emigrate to a
foreign country, where she was
launched in the Brazilian adventure
with the Rexona Curitiba
team. A year later, she went back
to Italy to wear the Volley Bergamo
jersey, with which she won a
Champions’ Cup – an Italian
Supercup – that stands for first
place in the rankings of the
2001/2002 championship.
With the national blue team, with
which she made her debut in
1996, during the Olympic qualifications
in Japan, she won the
world bronze medal at the ’99
European championship, the sil-

Oggi, con in tasca la Coppa CEV,
assieme alle sue compagne della
nazionale si prepara al duro training
che l’allenatore Marco Bonitta
ha predisposto per cogliere l’ultima
chance per Atene 2004: in
maggio la squadra dovrà tornare
in Giappone per giocare l’ultimo
torneo delle qualificazioni. Dal 13
al 29 agosto, infatti il mondo dello
sport toccherà il suo apice con i
Giochi Olimpici, quest’anno di
scena ad Atene, dove nel lontano
1896 si disputarono le prime
Olimpiadi moderne.
Abbiamo incontrato Francesca
Piccinini in uno studio fotografico
nel capoluogo orobico. In una
giornata di marzo fredda e grigia
dalla neve che scende abbondante,
con una temperatura interna
particolarmente fredda, Francesca
posa sotto gli scatti continui di tre
fotografi che si susseguono alla
macchina senza mai dar segno di
impazienza, dimostrando, anche
in questa occasione, la tenacia e la
determinazione che la contraddistinguono.

Come ci si sente
Ci si sente bene, quando si vince
ci si sente sempre benissimo.
Ultimamente ho vinto la coppa
CEV ma il tragitto è ancora lungo,
ho tante cose da imparare, tanto
altro da vincere.
Cosa significa dedicare la propria
vita allo sport
Fare tanti sacrifici. Svegliarsi alla
mattina molto presto; fare 8 ore di
allenamento in palestra. Lavorare,
lavorare, lavorare sempre molto
concentrati. I prossimi mesi,
saranno interamente dedicati a
una dura preparazione per le
olimpiadi. Come sportiva però, lo
accetto volentieri: sento la determinazione
a fare il massimo per
raggiungere certi obiettivi.

ti stai preparando a questo
evento
Molto tranquillamente, sia fisicamente
che psicologicamente:

On a cold March day, grey with an
abundant snowfall, and a bonechilling
temperature, Francesca
posed for three photographers for a
seemingly endless series of shots
without showing the merest sign of
impatience, thus demonstrating
the tenaciousness and determination
that has always distinguished
her.

Good, and when she wins, wonderful.
Lately, she won the CEV
cup but still has a long way to go
and a great deal to learn.
What does it mean to dedicate
your life to sport
It means making a lot of sacrifices
– getting up very early in the morning,
training in a gym for 8
hours and working, working,
working with the maximum concentration.
The upcoming months,
will be completely dedicated to
grueling preparation for the
Olympics. As a sportswoman,
however, I gladly accept the challenge.
I’m determined to do my
level best to attain certain goals.

Very calmly, both physically and
psychologically. I spend every day
(or almost) in the gym, and I
never fail to keep my goal in mind

business. Which excites you
more, Francesca
Sports, of course, which I have
engaged in since I was a little girl.
Every time I go to the gym, I train
and play…then, when I’m free, I
try to do other things like photo sessions,
calendars and interviews,
which I enjoy, because it’s only
right to try to do other things besides
volley ball. The important
thing is to be able to do both things
to the best of my ability.
Lastly, what does Francesca
Piccinini want to do later on
I want to have a family. As soon as
I stop playing, I want to have a
child, perhaps two. I would like to
stay in the sport world, but I’m
only 25 years old….I think it’s a
little premature for me to talk
about the future.

agli occhi lo stesso obiettivo, quello
di migliorarmi, di confermarmi
come giocatrice, di vincere. Oggi
la nostra nazionale è fortissima:
faremo ottime cose alle olimpiadi.
A maggio la squadra si riunirà per
un pre-ritiro in vista del torneo del
Giappone dove, però, ci sentiamo
certe di poter conquistare le qualificazioni.
Da lì in poi lavoreremo
duramente per arrivare in ottima
forma ai giochi olimpici.
Il mondo dello sport e quello
dello spettacolo. Quale ti regala
più emozioni, Francesca
Sicuramente lo sport, che pratico
fin da piccola. Ogni volta che vado
in palestra, che mi alleno, che
gioco è una soddisfazione… poi,
nel tempo libero, cerco di fare
anche altre cose come le foto, i
calendari, le interviste perché mi
piacciono ma anche perché è giusto
provare a fare anche altre cose
oltre alla pallavolo. La cosa importante
è saper fare ambedue le cose
nel migliore dei modi.
Infine, cosa vuol fare “da grande”
Francesca Piccinini
Sicuramente voglio crearmi una
famiglia. Appena smetterò di giocare,
voglio avere un figlio, magari
anche due. Mi piacerebbe
comunque rimanere nel mondo
dello sport; ma, oggi ho solo 25
anni… mi sembra prematuro parlare
del futuro.
