Every <strong>Passport</strong> lists highlights<strong>of</strong> a visit to Florence and <strong>Tuscany</strong>, sometimes l<strong>in</strong>ked to <strong>the</strong>exhibitions at <strong>the</strong> <strong>Palazzo</strong> <strong>Strozzi</strong>, sometimes with ano<strong>the</strong>rfocus, such as Families & Children. If a visitor goes toat least five <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> sights listed and gets <strong>the</strong>ir <strong>Passport</strong>stamped at each, <strong>the</strong>y can get <strong>in</strong> free to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Palazzo</strong><strong>Strozzi</strong>’s exhibitions. <strong>In</strong> addition to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Passport</strong>, visitorscan download an iPhone app with different it<strong>in</strong>eraries <strong>in</strong>Florence and its vic<strong>in</strong>ity <strong>in</strong> English, Italian and Ch<strong>in</strong>ese.This <strong>Passport</strong> highlights <strong>the</strong> places l<strong>in</strong>ked to <strong>Dante</strong>, one<strong>of</strong> Florence’s most famous poets. <strong>Dante</strong> Alighieri wasborn <strong>in</strong> late Spr<strong>in</strong>g 1265 <strong>in</strong> Florence. <strong>Dante</strong>’s family wereloyal to <strong>the</strong> ‘White’ Guelfs, <strong>in</strong> opposition to <strong>the</strong> ‘Black’Guelfs. <strong>Dante</strong> entered politics between 1295 and 1302,becom<strong>in</strong>g Prior for a brief period <strong>in</strong> 1300. The Whites,<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g <strong>Dante</strong>, were banished from Florence <strong>in</strong> 1302.Dur<strong>in</strong>g his exile, probably around 1307, <strong>Dante</strong> wrote<strong>the</strong> Comedy, to which Boccaccio later added ‘Div<strong>in</strong>e’.Today, however, it is best known as <strong>the</strong> Div<strong>in</strong>e Comedy,considered to be one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> f<strong>in</strong>est works <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Italianlanguage. <strong>Dante</strong> died <strong>in</strong> Ravenna <strong>in</strong> 1321.James M.
