step in a very long process. The foundation<br />
of OMR may be traced back<br />
to 1919 as a plant for the production<br />
of marble machining utensils and textile<br />
machines. In 1977 when my father<br />
passed away, my brother and I found<br />
ourselves managing an important heritage<br />
of experience and knowledge<br />
of mechanical machining. We were 5<br />
years ahead with respect to our competitors,<br />
thanks to our decisions of<br />
providing ourselves with valid work<br />
centres, in keeping with the principle<br />
oflookingaheadandnotsparingexpensesforthecompany.Ourturnover<br />
grew in the Eighties from 800 million to over 5 billion Italian<br />
Lire. We were bold enough to invest in cutting-edge<br />
machines, we tackled steel and aluminium machining techniques<br />
that provided increasing added value, in years when<br />
aluminium was still not a widely-known material”.<br />
We began with light alloy foundry casts<br />
and chose the automotive route by<br />
specializing in the four traditional areas:<br />
suspensions, engines, gearboxes<br />
and chassis.<br />
An important step was certainly the<br />
acquisition of Alcoa Ferrari in Modena,<br />
that paved the way for chassis where<br />
wenowhave6years’experienceand<br />
where Ferrari, Maserati and Bugatti<br />
chassis are produced. Specifically, we<br />
manufacture 7500 complete chassis<br />
for Ferrari cars, 40,000 chassis fronts<br />
for Maserati vehicles, including the<br />
new Maserati Levante SUV. All chassis<br />
are made up of foundry casts, extrusions<br />
and sheets that are all in aluminiumalloys.Theyareweldedorgluedor<br />
joined with the most innovative robotic processes. Today<br />
we use 60 million tons of aluminium each year, we have<br />
10productiveplantsinItalyand6plantsintherestofthe<br />
world, while the Group has more than 3,000 employees<br />
and a turnover of 700 million euro per year.<br />

How did you pursue this evolution, which<br />
was quite new to you, in the field of aluminium<br />
and automotive applications?<br />

coinvolgimento di OMR in numerosi componenti di questa<br />

di politica industriale, considerando anche la posizione di<br />
Bonometti alla presidenza dell’Associazione Industriale Bresciana.<br />
