Debunking fake news and urban myths claiming that
aluminium in connection with food is a health hazard.
With this aim in mind Centroal, Assomet’s Aluminium
group, organized on July 15th a full-day
informative session dedicated to the press and to several
communication professionals to clarify the issue of aluminium
safety and above all of aluminium products destinedtobeincontactwithfood.Thisinitiativeispartof
Centroal’s AFFG Aluminium for Future Generations communication
program and it involved two Italian companies
which are particularly significant to understand and experience
first-hand the industrial process that turns raw slabs
and ingots into the countless products that come into contact
with food, both in the food industry and in household
kitchens. The tour included Carcano Antonio Spa’s factory
in Mandello del Lario (near Lecco) and Pentole Agnelli’s factory
in Lallio (Bergamo). These two stops helped to define
two key aspects of the industry. Mandello’s converting plant
concentrates the production of Carcano’s surfaced foil and
multi-layeredproducts(over300millionmetresperyear
in all) for the flexible packaging sector, mainly for the food
and pharmaceutical industries. The prestigious Agnelli pots
and pans, present in the kitchens of the most famous restaurantsintheworld,areproducedintheLallioplant,ata
rate of roughly one million per year. “Safeguarding end users’
