mill and coil processing lines, will enable the company to<br />

again expand their portfolio in most demanding market<br />

segment beginning in 2017<br />

AMAG is investing over 300 million euro to double<br />

the production capacity of the Ranshofen plant in<br />

Austria, confirming that high technology, quality<br />

and efficiency are a superior competitive advantagewithrespecttotherelocationofplants.AMAGhascontractedwiththeSMSgroupforthedeliveryofacoldrolling<br />

mill, a heat treatment line with connected passivation, a<br />

high bay warehouse, and a packaging line. These are important<br />

core facilities for the investment project AMAG 2020.<br />

Thisequipmentfortheproductionofcoldrolledaluminium<br />

sheet and coil will be of the highest quality, delivered by one<br />

contractor.HelmutWieser,CEO,AMAG,emphasisedthatthe<br />

project has an important strategic significance: “With this expansion<br />

project, AMAG is sending a clear signal in the market<br />

forrolledaluminiumproducts,amarketseeingstronggrowth<br />

of over 6% per year worldwide. In particular the transportation<br />

sector, dominated by the automotive and aircraft industries,<br />

far exceeds the average, with about 11% annual growth<br />

having been forecast in the medium term. There is also increasingdemandforAMAG‘snewproductsfromthesporting<br />

equipment, electronic goods, construction, mechanical<br />

engineering and packaging industries”.<br />

New formats in widths of up to 2,200 mm<br />

Thefacilitieswillenterservicein2017.Sincethecoldrolling<br />

mill is adaptable enough to be used across the entire<br />

product spectrum, with bandwidths of up to 2,200mm,<br />

it will be built as a Sexto-type roll stand. This allows for<br />

narrow product tolerances. The exhaust created by the<br />

rolling process will be cleaned efficiently with the Airwash-facility,<br />

and the recaptured oil will be steered back<br />

into the production process in an environmentally safe<br />

manner. Special technical features of the heat treatment<br />

line include the furnace with water-cooling, the connected<br />

passivation, the resource conserving process technology<br />

and the compact layout. The material obtains the<br />

mechanical properties desired by the customer by thermal<br />

treatment on this continuous heat treatment line. The<br />

chemical coating (passivation) which follows prepares<br />

the coils for further processing. Passivated coils are especially<br />

utilized by customers from the automobile industry.<br />
