The expansion project AMAG 2020, with a new cold rolling
mill and coil processing lines, will enable the company to
again expand their portfolio in most demanding market
segment beginning in 2017

AMAG is investing over 300 million euro to double
the production capacity of the Ranshofen plant in
Austria, confirming that high technology, quality
and efficiency are a superior competitive advantagewithrespecttotherelocationofplants.AMAGhascontractedwiththeSMSgroupforthedeliveryofacoldrolling
mill, a heat treatment line with connected passivation, a
high bay warehouse, and a packaging line. These are important
core facilities for the investment project AMAG 2020.
Thisequipmentfortheproductionofcoldrolledaluminium
sheet and coil will be of the highest quality, delivered by one
contractor.HelmutWieser,CEO,AMAG,emphasisedthatthe
project has an important strategic significance: “With this expansion
project, AMAG is sending a clear signal in the market
forrolledaluminiumproducts,amarketseeingstronggrowth
of over 6% per year worldwide. In particular the transportation
sector, dominated by the automotive and aircraft industries,
far exceeds the average, with about 11% annual growth
having been forecast in the medium term. There is also increasingdemandforAMAG‘snewproductsfromthesporting
equipment, electronic goods, construction, mechanical
engineering and packaging industries”.
New formats in widths of up to 2,200 mm
Thefacilitieswillenterservicein2017.Sincethecoldrolling
mill is adaptable enough to be used across the entire
product spectrum, with bandwidths of up to 2,200mm,
it will be built as a Sexto-type roll stand. This allows for
narrow product tolerances. The exhaust created by the
rolling process will be cleaned efficiently with the Airwash-facility,
and the recaptured oil will be steered back
into the production process in an environmentally safe
manner. Special technical features of the heat treatment
line include the furnace with water-cooling, the connected
passivation, the resource conserving process technology
and the compact layout. The material obtains the
mechanical properties desired by the customer by thermal
treatment on this continuous heat treatment line. The
chemical coating (passivation) which follows prepares
the coils for further processing. Passivated coils are especially
utilized by customers from the automobile industry.
