β’andβ’’ precipitates are metastable phases, precursors<br />
of the stable Mg2Si phase. The Guinier-Preston<br />
zones that form clusters in Al-Mg-Si alloys are only<br />
semi-coherent with respect to the matrix. These zones<br />
are rod-shaped and the coherence depends on the orientation<br />
with respect to the slip planes of the cubic<br />
structure with centred faces of the aluminium matrix<br />
(Figure 3).<br />
