Extruded aluminium products are semis whose success
on the market depends largely on the validity
and novelty of the design for the production of
efficient and competitive details or components.
Extrusion of light alloys established itself on account of
its capability of producing countless configurations using
technically and economically viable methods; the high
flexibility in defining the shapes that may be obtained allows
a good optimization of the shapes, both from a functional
and aesthetic standpoint. Some applications of this
technique for the plastic transformation of aluminium
and its alloys have been known since the beginning of the
twentieth century, however the period between the two
world wars is normally considered the real beginning of this
transformation process. Specifically, the world’s aluminium
extrusion industry began to develop in the USA and in Europe
at the end of the last world conflict, with growth rates
for production and demand around 6-8% per year, and the
first successes for mass employment came from uses in
the building and architectural sectors.
