The worldwide aluminium extrusion industry gathered<br />
in Chicago, Monday, May 2 through Friday,<br />
May 6, for the Eleventh International Aluminium Extrusion<br />
Technology Seminar & Exposition – ET ’16.<br />
More than 1,350 industry professionals from more than 45<br />
countries attended the event over five days, which included<br />
two days of in-conjunction industry workshops, three<br />
days of technical sessions, the ET Expo and more. The Chicago<br />
location attracted more attendees compared to recent<br />
ET events in Florida, boasting a nearly 15% increase in<br />
attendance over ET ’12. ET ’16 exceeded expectations on all<br />
levels with the best attendance since ET 2000, an impressive124technicalpaperspresented,andarecordnumber<br />
of exhibitors with 123 companies occupying nearly 17,000<br />
square feet of exhibit space.<br />
Monday and Tuesday were reserved for in-conjunction industryworkshopsconductedinadvanceofET’16.Workshops<br />
included the AEC Extrusion Excellence Course –<br />
one class presented on each day due to popular demand,<br />
Preview of AEC Academy, Anodizing Essentials presented<br />
by the Aluminium Anodizers Council and Process Analysis<br />
and Optimization presented by the Manufacturing Technologies<br />
Group at the University of Bologna, Italy. In total,<br />
158 delegates took advantage of the additional educational<br />
opportunities at ET.<br />
The ET Expo opened on Tuesday and ran through Thursday,<br />
offering aluminium extrusion professionals opportunities<br />
to research equipment, products and services from leading<br />
global extrusion industry suppliers. Reception events<br />
on the show floor encouraged networking and camaraderie<br />
among the delegates.<br />
DuringtheGeneralSessiononWednesday,May4,awards<br />
were presented to a number of recipients for outstanding<br />
contributions. The first award of the event was presented<br />
to Rio Tinto Aluminium for the company’s “significant contribution<br />
and positive impact on the worldwide aluminium<br />
industry” throughout the 47-year-history of ET Seminars.<br />
