Machining Operations

The main operations in the high pressure die casting
process in order to get the final aluminium component,
are:diecasting,forproducingtheroughcasting;trimming
for obtaining the semifinished piece; machining
for having the finished piece.
Let us for the moment bypass all that concerns the cast production
so as to focus on the second phase of the process,
trimming, that in 90% of all cases is carried out in the Robotized
Automatic Cell. The trimming operation uses the die
casting machine’s cycle time, so this is a costless operation; it is
finalized to obtain parts ready for machining and finishing operations,
completely cleaned, with removal of runners, overflows,
chillvents, flashes and, of course, trimming of external
and internal profiles (Figure 1). The main players of trimming operation
are the trimming tool and the trimming press. Both of
them have the important task of realizing complete trimming
operation - nonstop production – and guaranteeing the complete
removal of scraps for each cycle. During this cycle, no
manual operations are foreseen, so as to obtain the best qualitative
result in terms of productivity and repeatability.
