AUGMENTED REALITY
Fig. 2 - Continuous of mediated reality showing four points: augmented reality, augmented
virtuality, mediated reality and mediated virtuality on the virtuality and mediality axes.

With the continuous development
of human-computer interactions,
this connotation is still
evolving.
The extended reality therefore
intends to coverthe integral set
of all real combined environments
and the consequent possible
interactions, where the "X"
is a variable for any spatial computing
technology, be it current
or future generation (Spatial
calculation was defined in 2003
by Simon Greenwold, [1] such
as "human interaction with a
machine in which the machine
holds and manipulates real objects
and spaces).
To date, several devices capable
of producing several extended
reality experiences have been
produced, although they have
numerous performance limitations
compared to the ambitious
goals of the XR.
Although with these premises,
their prices are still considerably
high and therefore mainly
aimed at specialized sectors
and companies, think of the
cost of Microsoft's Hardware,
or Hololens 2, which is in the
market with about 3500 dollars.
equipped with the new ToF
(time of flight) depth sensor.
These are, to date, industry
products, as explained by the
same company of Redmond,
oriented to developers for the
industrial sector, which can
mostly find application in different
production and professional
contexts, perhaps in the
medical field to make diagnoses
or in the various technical areas
of design and maintenance.
In this progressive path, worthy
of mention is certainly also the
research conducted by Magic
Leap, which attempted to distinguish
itself in this technological
avant-garde, with its highly
specialized headset. Magic
Leap's hardware Leap incorporates
innovative cheap photonics
into the lenses to try to pursue
and achieve a real neurological-perceptive
deception, so that
the digital data embedded in
the real, appears indistinguishable
from it, but the numerous
difficulties encountered, despite
the huge funding, have not met
expectations (The technology
used is known as a light field
photonic chip. It consists of
a digital projection system of
light rays which directly reaches
the’observer's eye).
We are therefore still in an acerbic
and magmatic sector, referring
to the extended reality.
With it, social changes could be
really evident: the Xr, for example,
will contribute massively
to the education of children
and young people, accompanying
them to places they have
never seen, providing therapies
for people with physical or
psychological disabilities and
helping health professionals to
learn new skills, using digital
