Dueto its wonderful position, Clauzetto is alsocalled ‘The Balcony of Friuli’. On a clear day, youcan see the plain, crossed by the majestic bedofGleriesthe Tagliamento River, the Adriatic Sea and,to the west, the outlines of the Euganean Hills.St. James’s Church (1), built between the 13 thwhere people come to worship the relic withthe Blood of Jesus: authenticated in 1755 bythe Patriarch of Venice, in 1773 Pope ClementXIV granted plenary indulgence to pilgrims.Currently the indulgence rite takes place onMonte GrappaVia GleriasVia AnduinsVia Antonio MarinVia RomaAscension day and is called ‘Perdon Grande’,the great forgiveness.After about 500 metres, the route crosses alarge stony ground (2) which was affected bya disastrous landslide in 1914. The landslidebroke off from Mount Corona and swept awaythe road between Clauzetto and Vito d’Asio,along with 26 buildings. Halfway along theroute, you will find St. Martin’s Church (3), arural church dated 1500. At the back of thechurch there are traces of a building datingback to the 10 th century and an externalcemetery area used up to the early 16 th century.The stone altar inside the church, by Pilacorte,was made in 1528 and is the first of its kind inViaFriuli. The route arrival point is in Vito d’Asio atSt. Michael the Archangel Church (4). Buildingtraces of the church date back to the mid-1400 s .The church is located on the top of a hill and itis embellished with many works of art. The oldchurch library is preserved in the presbytery.Vito d’Asio was the hometown of Jacopo Ortis,immortalized in the famous novel, ‘The LastLetters of Jacopo Ortis’, by Ugo Foscolo.The route is immersed in a wooded nature richin hornbeams, hazels, acacias and conifers,and offers a relaxing climate that is always airyand little exposed to direct sunlight.For about 1 km, it alternates short uphill anddownhill sections with flat sections.
