A HEALTHY RAMBLE THROUGH THE BRUSSA WOOD93This pedestrian route is a flat circular pathequipped for either a leisure walk or a shorthike.The itinerary has a total length of 3.5 km andcan be divided into three shorter routes,respectively 2.3 km, 350 m and 1 km long. Theroute, partly grassy and partly dirt surfaced,can be covered in an average of one hour. Therest areas with games, tables and benches,positioned both in the shade and in the sun,make the walk accessible not only to adults,but also families, children and the elderly.The wood is characterized by the phytocoenosisof the oak-hornbeam forest, a habitat ofextraordinary naturalistic value. Among thearboreal plants, we can mention the commonoak, common hornbeam, field elm, field maple,lime tree, wild cherry and hazelnut; among theshrubs, you can see the one-seed hawthorn,privet and elderberry. Mammals include thewild boar, roe deer, fox, badger, hare, weaseland skunk. In the more humid areas, thecommon toad and two species of red frogs findshelter.Among the birds, we find the buzzard, blackwoodpecker, great spotted woodpecker, greenwoodpecker, diurnal birds of prey such as theblack kite and honey buzzard.As early as the 1980s, the MunicipalAdministration worked on decisivereforestation works in the area, thanks to thevaluable contribution of the “Amici del BoscoBrussa” association which still manages thearea today. The forest was cut down in the1950s by a company that rented the area tostart growing corn. Different cultivation typeshave been developed, with the aim of verifyingthe developmental dynamics and levels ofresistance over time.The embankment is nearby.
