La vallata
La vallata offre al visitatore una serie di
borghi collinari che hanno conservato le
originarie caratteristiche di insediamenti
medievali. Tutti sono facilmente
raggiungibili sia in auto che attraverso
una fitta rete di percorsi pedonali (quasi
80 chilometri, ben segnalati e di facile
percorrenza) che li collega tra di loro e al
centro di Levanto insinuandosi tra orti,
uliveti, vigneti, castagneti e macchia
mediterranea.
Le spiagge
Sul litorale, che si estende ad arco per quasi
un chilometro con larghe spiagge in sabbia
o ciottoli al centro e suggestive scogliere
alle due estremità, si trovano stabilimenti
balneari attrezzati con servizi per persone
disabili, aree lasciate al libero utilizzo dei
bagnanti, un polo nautico con moderni
servizi dedicati al noleggio di imbarcazioni,
alle escursioni lungo la costa alla ricerca
di grotte e calette dove fare il bagno, e alle
immersioni guidate.
Grazie alla particolare conformazione delle
onde che vi si generano, il golfo è una delle
méte italiane preferite dai surfisti, che lo
frequentano in ogni periodo dell’anno,
mentre i fondali dell’Area marina protetta
delle Cinque Terre sono un vero paradiso
per i sub e gli appassionati dello snorkeling,
che vi possono osservare numerose specie
protette di flora e fauna mediterranea.
Nel 2016, anche grazie all’entrata in
funzione di un moderno depuratore
delle acque reflue, Levanto ha ottenuto la
prestigiosa Bandiera Blu.
La pista ciclopedonale “Maremonti”
Un percorso ciclopedonale asfaltato e diviso
da segnaletica orizzontale, ricavato dall’ex
linea ferroviaria che correva di fronte al
mare, oggi collega in circa cinque chilometri
Levanto, Bonassola e Framura. Lungo la
pista (che fa parte della “Rete ciclabile della
Liguria”) si incontrano sia alcune gallerie
illuminate che lunghi tratti all’aperto: da
questi ultimi è possibile accedere a piedi
alle numerose spiaggette che si aprono
lungo il tratto costiero seguito dal percorso.
L'accoglienza
La realizzazione del progetto “Hotel paese”
ha consentito di allestire un’offerta ricettiva
in grado di soddisfare le esigenze di ogni
tipo di clientela, in gran parte disponibile
tutto l'anno e diffusa sull’intero territorio:
dagli alberghi eleganti ai più informali Bed
and breakfast e affittacamere, dall'Ostello
della gioventù ricavato in un edificio storico
medievale del centro che si affacciava
sull’antica darsena alle numerose strutture
agrituristiche immerse nel verde e nella
quiete della vallata.
La gastronomia
Nei ristoranti si possono gustare specialità
di mare e di terra condite con l'olio d.o.p.
locale e accompagnate dai vini d.o.c. della
vallata. Assolutamente da assaggiare è il
"Gattafin", la caratteristica frittella locale
ripiena di erbette di campo e formaggio.
Ma nel cesto dei sapori di Levanto non
possono mancare gli altri prodotti della
ricca tradizione locale: le acciughe, il miele,
il pesto e i dolci.
Il centro storico
Quasi interamente pedonalizzato, conserva
l’antico impianto viario originario del
paese, con i caratteristici “carruggi” liguri,
i resti delle cinte di mura che scendono
dal castello, le testimonianze (la Loggia,
l’ex convento agostiniano, gli edifici che
ospitavano le abitazioni dei mercanti ai piani
superiori e i locali commerciali al livello
delle banchine) del porto-canale medievale
(importante crocevia commerciale tra
le rotte nautiche costiere e le strade che
collegavano la Liguria e l’Appennino Tosco-
Emiliano), i palazzi signorili con le facciate
affrescate tipiche della tradizione genovese
che oggi accolgono laboratori del gusto da
cui emanano i profumi dei prodotti appena
sfornati.
Lo sport
Grazie ad una conformazione geografica
e ad un clima particolarmente favorevoli,
Levanto è il luogo ideale per la pratica delle
attività sportive all’aperto tutto l’anno.
Calcio e atletica trovano spazio nello
stadio situato in località Moltedi, nell’area
retrostante la stazione ferroviaria, la pista
ciclopedonale “Maremonti” (che fa parte
della “Rete ciclabile della Liguria”) consente
di fare jogging, pedalare o passeggiare
lungo l’ex ferrovia sul mare da Levanto a
Framura, le strade carrozzabili della vallata
impegnano i ciclisti e i podisti più allenati, i
percorsi sterrati che si inerpicano sulle vette
più alte fino ai monti Rossola e Bardellone
aprono visuali mozzafiato sulla costa agli
appassionati della mountain-bike e del
trekking, mentre nel golfo si innalzano
onde ideali per il surf e i fondali consentono
suggestive immersioni e snorkeling in ogni
stagione.
Levanto “cittaslow” e Comune “riciclone”
Levanto fa parte di “Cittàslow”,
l’associazione internazionale tra le realtà
locali contraddistinte da un’alta qualità
della vita e che promuovono uno sviluppo
socio-economico virtuoso e rispettoso del
territorio. Da anni riceve da Legambiente sia
le “Quattro vele” per la qualità turistica che
il titolo di “Comune riciclone” per i risultati
raggiunti nella raccolta differenziata dei
rifiuti (oltre il 70%).

The valley
The valley offers a certain number of
hilly hamlets that have preserved the
original characteristics of the medioeval
settlements. They are all easily reacheable
both by car and through the thick network
of pedestrian trails (almost 80 kilometres,
well marked and easy to cross), connected
to each other and to the centre of Levanto,
reaching vegetable gardens, olive groves,
vineyards, chestnut groves and the
Mediterranean maquis.
The beaches
The coast, has the shape of an arch and
stretches for almost a kilometre with its
large sandy and pebble beaches, towards
the centre and the evocative cliffs on the
two far ends, there are equipped beaches
with facilities for disabled, areas left for
the use of bathers, a long sailing area with
modern services dedicated to boat rentals,
to excursions along the coast searching
small bays and caves where to swim or dive
with a guide.
Thanks to the particular shape of the
waves, the Gulf is one of the Italian
favourite places for surfers, who come
here in every period of the year, while the
sea bottom of the Protected Marine area
of the Cinque Terre is a real paradise for
divers and snorkeling lovers, who can
observe the many protected species of the
Mediterranean flora and fauna.In 2016
thanks to the modern sewage purifier,
Levanto has obtained the prestigious Blue
Flag.
The cycle path “Maremonti”
A paved cycle path with horizontal signs,
it was built where there was the former
railway that ran along the seafront, it
connects Levanto, Bonassola and Framura,
for about five kilometres.
Along the cycle path (which is part of
Liguria cycle network), there are some lit
tunnels and parts in the open air, from
the latter it is possible to reach on foot,
the many small beaches that are along the
coast that the path follows.
Hospitality
The fullfillment of the project “Hotel
paese” has made possible an accomodation
offer able to satisfy the needs of all types of
clients, which is available for great part of
the year and present on the whole territory:
from elegant hotels to the more informal
Bed and Breakfasts and guest houses, the
youth hostel that is inside a medioeval
historic builing in the town centre,
overlooks the ancient docks and the many
agritourisms surrounded by the vegetation
and the quiet of the valley.
The Cuisine
Inside the restaurants it is possible to taste
sea and land specialities, seasoned with
extravergin d.o.p. olive oil of the valley.
You must absolutely taste “Gattafin”, the
typical local fritter stuffed with herbs
and cheese, but in the flavours basket of
Levanto, we can't miss the other products
of the local rich tradition: anchovies,
honey, pesto sauce and the cakes.
The historic centre
It is almost all pedestrianized and
preserves the ancient original road plan
of the village, with its characteristic
Ligurian “carruggi”, the remains of the
city walls that continue along the hill, from
the castle, the evidences (the Loggia, a
former Agostinian convent, the buildings
that were the homes of merchants on the
upper floors and business premises on the
docks level) the Medioeval port canal (an
important commercial crossroad of the
sailing routes and the roads that connected
Liguria to the Tuscan-Emilian Appenines),
the aristocratic buildings with the typical
Genoese frescoed facades, today they host
workshops for food tasting which give off
the scents of the freshly made products.
Sport
Thanks to its shape and a particulary
favourable climate, Levanto is the ideal
place for practicing outdoor sports
throughout the year.
Football and athletics can be practised
inside the stadium in Moltedi, in an area
behind the railway station, the cycle path
“Maremonti” (that is part of Liguria cycle
network), allows you to do jogging, cycle or
walk along the former railway overlooking
the sea that goes from Levanto to Framura,
the roads of the valley committ the most
trained cyclists trackers, the unpaved
roads that climb up towards the highest
peaks, the mountains of Rossola and
Bardellone, with breathtaking open views
of the coast, are suitable for mountain
bike and trekking lovers, while on the
gulf, the perfect waves for surfers rise and
the sea bottom allows evocative dives and
snorkeling in every season.
Levanto “slow town ” and big recycling
Municipality ”
Levanto is part of “Città slow”, an
international association among the local
realities that stand out for high quality life,
encouraging an honest and respectful
socio-economic development of the
territory. The town has received “Quattro
vele”, from Legambiente, for years for
the tourist quality and the title “Comune
riciclone” for the results achieved in
recycling waste (over 70%).

La Riviera Ligure di Levante, che fa capo alla provincia di La Spezia,
subito dopo l’arco delle Cinque Terre prende il nome di Riviera
Spezzina, ed è composta prevalentemente da quattro borghi prossimi
a queste ultime: Levanto, Bonassola, Framura e Deiva Marina.
Dunque, incastonato nella Riviera di Levante, Levanto, che proprio
delle rive porta il nome e che delle cinque sorelle è considerato la
“porta di ingresso”, ci accoglie da subito come un mirabile esempio
di evoluzione paesaggistica, al passo col progresso.
Stretto in una nicchia naturale simile, per caratteristiche e vantaggi, a
quella di La Spezia, da cui dista appena una quarantina di chilometri,
Il paese è al centro di una pittoresca valle, protetto da Punta Mesco e
dalla Punta di Levanto ai due lati. Entrambi questi territori sono calati
in uno splendido scenario, rivestito del verde degli ulivi e delle vigne.
Levanto conta in totale poco più di cinquemila abitanti, lasciando al
turismo florido uno spazio ampio e a lui solo dedicato. Non bisogna
tralasciare, tuttavia, l’esistenza dei paesini che, stretti intorno alla sua
municipalità, costituiscono una realtà allo stesso modo viva e vibrante:
ciascuno ha conservato i colori antichi della propria identità, non solo
nel nome ma anche nella struttura. Seguendo il tracciato della strada
di mezzacosta che li collega, a partire dal convento dell'Annunziata,
il turista può incontrare Lizza, Lavaggiorosso, Groppo e Dosso.
Passando sull'altro versante, sulla dorsale centrale si incontrano
Montale, antico centro della valle, e, più in basso, Casella. Sulla
dorsale laterale ci sono Ridarolo, Legnaro, Chiesanuova, Fontona,
Pastine e Vignana.
Gli scorci che dipingono lo sfondo di tutti questi paesi, i sentieri e
la bellezza del patrimonio artistico dell’intero arco costiero, hanno
garantito a Levanto l’inserimento nel Parco Nazionale delle Cinque
Terre, inclusa la parte di territorio comunale a ridosso con Monterosso.

Où sommes-nous
La Riviera du levant de la ligure appartient au département de
La Spezia qui se trouve juste après l'arc des Cinque Terre, elle est
appelée la côte de La Spezia et se compose principalement de
quatre villes : Levanto, Bonassola, Framura et Deiva Marina .
Insérée dans la Riviera du Levant, Levanto est considéré comme la
"porte d'entrée", elle nous accueille aussitôt avec son merveilleux
paysage qui évolue au rythme du progrès.
Encadré dans une enceinte naturelle, similaire aux caractéristiques
et avantages de celle de La Spezia, distante seulement de 40 km,
la ville se trouve au milieu d'une vallée pittoresque, protégée
par Punta Mesco et Punta di Levanto de chaque côté. Ces deux
territoires s’étendent sur un splendide paysage verdoyant couvert
d’oliviers et de vignobles.
Levanto peuplé d’un peu plus de cinq mille habitants, laisse au
tourisme en plein essor un grand espace pour lui seul. Cependant,
Il ne faut pas délaisser l'existence de petits villages regroupés
autour de sa municipalité qui représentent une réalité vivante et
vibrante. Chacun de ces petits villages a conservé les anciennes
couleurs de son identité, non seulement au travers du propre
nom du village mais aussi pour sa structure. En suivant la route
collinaire qui les relie, on trouve le couvent de l’Annunziata, Lizza,
Lavaggiorosso, Groppo et Dosso. En passant sur la crête centrale
vers l'autre versant on trouve Montale, ancien centre de la vallée,
et plus bas, Casella. Sur le dorsal latéral on trouve Ridarolo,
Legnaro, Chiesanuova, Fontona, Pastine et Vignana.
Les vues qui peignent l'arrière-plan de tous ces petits villages, les
sentiers et la beauté du patrimoine artistique de tout l'arc côtier
ont assuré à Levanto sa place au sein du Parc National des Cinque
Terre, y compris la portion de territoire communal qui se trouve
derrière Monterosso.

Die Riviera Ligure di Levante, die so genannte östliche Riviera, die an
die Provinz La Spezias anschließt, wird auch Riviera Spezzina genannt
und umfasst nach den 5 Terre folgende vier Orte: Levanto, Bonassola,
Framura und Deiva Marina. Levanto hat seinen Namen von der Riviera
di Levante und wird von den 5 Terre als „Eingangstor“ betrachtet und
ist ein wunderbares Beispiel für die fortschrittliche Entwicklung eines
ländlichen Raums.
Die Stadt Levanto liegt eingebettet in einem kleinen Tal und ähnelt in
ihren Charakteristika und Vorzügen der Stadt La Spezia, die nur 40 km
entfernt liegt. Levanto liegt im Zentrum eines malerischen Tals und wird
von der Punta Mesco und von der Punta di Levanto, deren Hänge mit
Olivenbäumen und Pinien bewachsen sind, von zwei Seiten geschützt.
Levanto hat etwas mehr als fünftausend Einwohner und ist ein wahres
Paradies für Touristen. Man darf nicht die Existenz der Dörfer vergessen,
die eng um seine Gemeinde eine gleichermaßen lebendige und dynamische
Realität formen: jede einzelne hat die antiken Einflüsse ihrer eigenen
Identität bewahrt, nicht nur im Namen sondern auch in der Struktur. Im
Anschluss an die Hangstraße, die diese miteinander verbindet, ab dem
Kloster Annunziata, kann der Tourist auf Lizza, Lavaggiorosso, Groppo
und Dosso treffen. Auf der anderen Seite trifft man auf dem Bergrücken
auf das alte Zentrum des Tals, Montale, und, weiter unten auf Casella.
Auf der Rückenseite befinden sich Ridarolo, Legnaro, Chiesa, Fontona,
Pastine und Vignana.
Die zahlreichen kleinen Pfade und Wanderwege, sowie die prächtigen
Kunstschätze haben dazu geführt, dass Levanto als Nachbargemeinde
von Monterosso zum Nationalpark der Cinque Terre gezählt wird.

The east coast of Liguria, which is part of the province of La
Spezia, after the arch of the Cinque Terre is called Riviera
Spezzina and is mainly composed of four villages: Levanto,
Bonassola, Framura, Deiva Marina.
Nestled in the east Riviera (Riviera di Levante), Levanto
takes the name after this area, and is considered as the
entrance door to the Cinque Terre (the five sisters), an
amazing example of advanced landascape development.
Closed inside a natural niche similar in characterists and
advantages to the one of La Spezia (forty kilometres far
away), the village is in the centre of a picturesque valley,
and is protected on two sides by Punta Mesco and Punta
di Levanto, both territories are situated in a wonderful
landscape covered by the green of the olive tree groves and
vineyards. Levanto has just over five thousand inhabitants,
letting plenty of well designated space to the thriving
tourism. However we mustn't neglet the existence of the
small hamlets, gathered around its municipality; they are
a proper lively and vibrant reality: each one has maintained
its old identity colours, name but also the structure.
Following the road half way on the coast, that connects
the villages, starting from the Convent of Annunziata, the
tourists may reach Lizza, Lavaggiorosso, Groppo and Dosso.
Passing from the other side, on the central ridge we reach
the village of Montale, that was in the past, an old centre of
the valley and further down Casella. On the side ridge there
are Ridarolo, Legnaro, Chiesanuova, Fontona, Pastine and
Vignana.
The views that colour the background of all these villages,
the footpaths and the beauty of the artistic heritage of the
whole coast, have allowed Levanto to become part of the
National Park of the Cinque Terre, including the part of the
municipality just before Monterosso.
Via aerea: l' aeroporto Cristoforo Colombo di Genova, a
soli 80 chilometri da Levanto, e il Galileo Galilei di Pisa, a
poco più, sono collegati direttamente al paese attraverso
l’ autostrada A12 e la successiva SS 566, in prossimità
dell’arrivo. Più fuori mano ma di facile accesso, per chi viene
dalle capitali europee, saranno l’aeroporto internazionale di
Malpensa a Milano e quello di Orio al Serio di Bergamo.
Via terra: in auto, per chi viene da Milano, si è soliti utilizzare
la tratta della A1, uscendo a La Spezia, oppure spostandosi
sulla SS 566 della Val di Vara, ottima per godersi il
panorama boschivo. Presente anche una variante cittadina,
la provinciale 64 Baracca-Levanto, utilizzata per lo più dai
residenti per arrivare alle frazioni di confine. Attraverso la A12
Genova- Livorno, per chi invece si sposta dal centro Italia,
si arriva a destinazione con l’uscita dedicata Carrodano-
Levanto, seguendo quindi le indicazioni per arrivare al centro
cittadino, distante pochi chilometri. La linea ferroviaria del
trittico Torino- Genova - Roma si avvale dei principali treni
interregionali, con numerose fermate intermedie lungo le
maggiori mete di destinazione del Levante Ligure; da e per
Milano Centrale partono ogni due ore treni intercity con
fermata dedicata a Levanto, e da Roma Termini all’incirca
con la stessa cadenza, ma con scalo alla sola La Spezia.
Da Genova, sono in partenza treni regionali che collegano
Levanto, così come le Cinque Terre, al capoluogo, nel giro
di una ventina di minuti.
Via mare: il Consorzio Marittimo Turistico “Cinque Terre
– Golfo dei Poeti” collega, a prezzi modici, Levanto con
Portofino, assieme alle Cinque Terre e Portovenere, seguendo
l’orario primaverile, solitamente attivo da marzo in poi e per
tutta l’estate sino a settembre inoltrato. Levanto, per di più, ha
un attracco turistico e un piccolo porticciolo che funge anche
da rimessaggio per barche da pesca e da diporto.

Comment arriver

Par avion: aéroport Cristoforo Colombo de Gênes situé
à seulement 80 km de Levanto et l’aéroport Galileo
Galilei de Pise qui est légèrement plus distant.
L’autoroute A12, puis la SS 566 relient directement
l’aéroport à la ville. Moins immédiat pour ceux qui
viennent des capitales européennes, l’aéroport
international de Malpensa de Milan ou celui de Orio al
Serio de Bergamo doivent être utilisés.
Par terre: en voiture, pour ceux qui viennent de Milan,
l’autoroute A1 est la plus commode, sortir à La Spezia.
Pour ceux qui préfèrent un cadre et un panorama
boisé, utiliser la SS 566 de Val di Vara. Il y a aussi la
possibilité d’utiliser une autre route départementale,
la 64 Baracca-Levanto, route empruntée le plus souvent
par les résidents pour rejoindre les villages frontaliers.
Par contre l'A12 Gênes-Livourne est l’autoroute utilisée
pour ceux qui viennent du centre de l'Italie, prendre la
sortie Carrodano-Levanto pour rejoindre la destination
finale qui se trouve à peu de kilomètre en suivant les
indications centre-ville.
La ligne de chemin de fer Turin - Gênes - Rome fait usage
de trains inter-régionaux qui comportent de nombreux

arrêts le long des différentes lignes en direction
du Levant de la Ligure. De et vers Milan Central des
trains intercity partent toutes les deux heures avec
arrêt à Levanto. Même fréquence pour Rome Termini
par contre avec un seul arrêt à La Spezia pour notre
territoire. De Gênes, il y a des trains régionaux qui
relient Levanto ainsi que les Cinque Terre toutes les
vingt minutes.
Par mer: Le Consortium Maritime Touristique "Cinque
Terre - Golfe des Poètes" relie à des prix raisonnables
Levanto à Portofino ou les Cinque Terre à Portovenere
selon les horaires en vigueur de mars à septembre.
Levanto, en outre, dispose d'une gare maritime et
d’un petit port de plaisance qui sert aussi de stockage
pour les bateaux de pêche et les bateaux de plaisance.

Mit dem Flugzeug: der Flughafen Cristoforo Colombo
bei Genova liegt nur 80 km und der Flughafen Galileo
Galilei in Pisa 90 km von Levanto entfernt. Von beiden
Flughäfen kann die Stadt über die Autobahn A12 und die
weiterführende SS 566 erreicht werden.
Etwas weiter entfernt, aber für alle die leichter erreichbar
die aus europäischen Hauptstädten anreisen, ist der
internationale Flughafen Malpensa in Mailand.
Auf dem Landweg: mit dem Auto kann man über die A1
aus Mailand anreisen, in La Spezia abfahren und weiter
über die SS 566 nach Levanto fahren, um das Val di Vara
mit seinem wunderschönen Naturpanorama zu genießen.
Eine Alternative ist die Landstraße, die „provinciale 64“
Baracca-Levanto, die vor allem von den Einheimischen
benutzt wird, um in die nahe liegenden Ortschaften
zu gelangen. Aus Mittelitalien fährt man über die A12
Genua-Livorno zur Autobahnausfahrt Carrodano-
Levanto, von dort aus sind es nur 12 km ins Stadtzentrum
von Levanto. Mit dem Zug kann man von der Linie
Turin-Genua-Rom und ihren zahlreichen Haltestellen
Gebrauch machen. Von und nach Mailand Centrale
fahren alle zwei Stunden Intercity Züge, nach Rom
Termini ungefähr im selben Intervall, aber man muss in
La Spezia umsteigen. Von der Provinzhauptstadt gibt es
Regionalzüge, die Levanto und die 5 Terre in nur zwanzig
Minuten erreichen.
Anreise auf dem Wasser: die Fähren „5 Terre – Golfo
dei Poeti” verbinden zu moderaten Preisen Levanto
mit Portofino, den 5 Terre und Portovenere. Die Boote
fahren ab März über die ganze Sommersaison bis
Anfang Oktober. Levanto hat eine Touristenanlegestelle
und einen kleinen Hafen, vor allem für Fischer- und
Sportboote.
How to reach Levanto
By plane: the airport Cristoforo Colombo in Genoa is at
80 Kms from Levanto and the airport Galileo Galilei in
Pisa, is at only 90 kms, they are directly connected to the
village by the A12 motorway and then you have to take the
SS 566, to reach your destination. A bit off hand but easily
accessable if you are coming from the European cities, are
the international airport Malpensa, in Milan and that of
Orio al Serio in Bergamo. By land: by car for those coming
from Milan the A1 motorway, exit La Spezia then take the
Val di Vara SS566 to enjoy the woody landscape. There
is also another provincial road the 64 Baracca-Levanto,
used mainly by the inhabitants to reach the neighbouring
hamlets. The A12 Genoa-Leghorn, for people coming from
the centre of Italy, will take you to your destination, the exit
is Carrodano-Levanto, then follow the directions towards
the town centre, which is at a few kilometres.
By train: the Turin-Genoa-Rome railway line, uses the
main long distance trains that stop in many train stations
along the major destinations of the eastern Liguria; to and
from Milan central, there is an intercity train every two
hours,that stops in Levanto; from Rome Termini, there
is more or less the same situation, but you have to stop
at La Spezia central station, then take a regional train to
reach Levanto. From Genoa there are regional trains that
connect Levanto and the Cinque Terre in about twenty
minutes.
By sea: Consorzio Marittimo turistico 5 Terre- Golfo dei
Poeti, connects Levanto to Portofino, the Cinque Terre
and Portovenere at convenient prices, the service starts
in spring, from March and continues in the summer till
late September. Levanto has a tourist mooring and a small
pier that is used as storage facility for fishing boats and
pleasure boats.

Come spostarsi

Levanto è indubbiamente la città delle piste ciclabili. Avere
una mountain bike, o appassionarsi alle passeggiate in
bicicletta senza troppe pretese, è l’ideale per godersi il
luogo e visitarlo da cima a fondo.
La pista ciclopedonale “Maremonti” rappresenta in
tal senso un percorso ideale: asfaltato e diviso da
segnaletica orizzontale, ricavato dall’ex linea ferroviaria
che correva di fronte al mare, oggi collega in circa
cinque chilometri Levanto, Bonassola e Framura. Lungo
la pista (che fa parte della “Rete ciclabile della Liguria”)
si incontrano sia alcune gallerie illuminate che lunghi
tratti all’aperto: da questi ultimi è possibile accedere
a piedi alle numerose spiaggette libere, che si aprono
lungo il tratto costiero.
Senz'altro più difficile, e sicuramente poco economico,
è l’uso del mezzo proprio: in quanto località balneare,
Levanto mette a dura prova gli automobilisti aree ZTL (zona
traffico limitato), privilegiando le isole pedonali e quelle
verdi per i bambini, ricche di strutture per intrattenerli. E’
comunque utile, aldilà di ogni considerazione, spostarsi
in auto, poiché per visitare i borghi di confine il trasporto
pubblico risente, come del resto ovunque, di fermate ed
orari passibili, soprattutto in periodo estivo, di eventuali
ritardi. Dunque sì alla macchina, ma solo se prevedete
lunghi spostamenti.
Per spostarsi con tariffe alla portata di tutti dai centri
maggiori a Levanto paese, ci si avvale dei bus a metano del
consorzio A.T.C. La Spezia, seguendo scrupolosamente
itinerari e distanze, con collegamenti alla Val di Vara o,
in alternativa, usufruendo della linea ferroviaria regionale
diretta, veloce e puntuale.
Se d’altro canto si soggiorna in paese, oltre a bici e
passeggiate è possibile richiedere la Cinque Terre
Card, della durata di uno, tre o sette giorni, una valida
iniziativa che consente ai soci sia l’accesso ai percorsi
e ai sentieri che a quello, nelle diverse denominazioni,
alla tratta del treno e dei battelli, per un numero di viaggi
illimitato.
In tempi recenti, la realizzazione del progetto “Hotel
paese” ha consentito di allestire un’offerta ricettiva in
grado di soddisfare clientela con ogni tipo di esigenza:
dagli alberghi eleganti ai più informali bed and breakfast
e affittacamere, dall'ostello della gioventù ricavato in un
edificio storico medievale del centro, che si affacciava
sull’antica darsena, alle numerose strutture agrituristiche
immerse nel verde e nella quiete della vallata.

Levanto est sans aucun doute la ville des pistes cyclables.
Une mountain bike ou un simple vélo sont deux moyens
pratiques pour visiter en long et en large la ville de Levanto.
La piste cyclable "Maremonti” représente un parcours
idéal: goudronnée, divisée par une ligne blanche qui
divise les deux sens, ce parcours appartenait à l'ancienne
ligne de chemin de fer qui longeait la mer. Aujourd’hui la
piste longue de cinq kilomètres relie Levanto, Bonassola
et Framura. La piste (qui fait partie du «Réseau cyclable
de la Ligurie") traverse des galeries éclairées, des parties
ouvertes sur le littoral desquelles il est possible d’accéder
à pied aux nombreuses plages libres. Certainement plus
compliqué et moins économique est l'usage de sa propre
voiture : la station balnéaire de Levanto met une pression
sur les automobilistes à cause du coût de stationnement
élevé et à cause de la mise en place des zones à trafic
limité (ZTL), ceci pour favoriser les zones piétonnes et
les parcs à jeux fort bien équipés pour le divertissement
des enfants. Toutefois il est toujours pratique de pouvoir
se déplacer en voiture afin de visiter aisément les villes
limitrophes car les transports publics comportent,
comme d'ailleurs partout, des temps d’arrêt, surtout en
été, ce qui peut créer des retards. Alors oui à la voiture,

mais seulement si vous prévoyez de longs trajets.
Pour se déplacer dans Levanto à un prix modique,
le consortium A.T.C de La Spezia met à disposition
des bus alimentés au gaz méthane qui respectent
scrupuleusement des itinéraires bien définis et qui
couvrent le territoire du Val di Vara. En alternative,
il y a la ligne ferroviaire régionale directe, rapide et
ponctuelle. Si vous restez en ville, mis à part le vélo ou la
marche à pied, il est possible d’obtenir la Cinque Terre
Card pour une durée de un, trois ou sept jours, initiative
intéressante qui permet aux membres l’accès aux
différents parcours et sentiers pédestres aux différentes
dénominations, au transit des trains et des bateaux,
pour un nombre illimité de voyages.
Ces derniers temps, la réalisation du projet "Hôtels
dans la ville» a permis de mettre en place pour offrir
une gamme de logements afin de satisfaire tous styles
de clientèle : des hôtels élégants aux plus ordinaires,
les Bed & Breakfast, les chambres d'hôtes, l'auberge de
jeunesse qui a été créée dans un édifice médiéval du
centre historique face au quai antique, ou encore les
nombreux agritourismes situés dans le vert et au calme
de la vallée.

Levanto ist zweifelsohne die Stadt der Radwege;
Mountain Bikes oder Stadträder eignen sich bestens
um die Stadt gründlich zu erkunden.
Der Radweg "Maremonti" rappresentiert in diesem
Sinne einen idealen Weg: gepflastert und durch
horizontale Zeichen geteilt und auf der ehemaligen
Eisenbahnlinie konstruiert , die vor dem Meer verlief,
verbindet er nun in etwa fünf Kilometern die Orte
Levanto, Bonassola und Framura.
Die Strecke (die Teil des „Radwegenetzes Liguriens“
ist) führt entweder durch einige beleuchtete Galerien
oder über weite Strecken im Freien: von hier aus kann
man zu Fuß die vielen Strände erreichen die sich am
Küstenstreifen entlang dem Pfad befinden.
Komplizierter und sicher auch teurer ist die
Verwendung des eigenen Fahrzeuges. Vor allem im
Sommer ist es wegen der vielen Besucher schwierig,
Parkplätze zu finden, da es viele Fußgängerzonen und
Grünflächen mit Einrichtungen zur Unterhaltung
für Kinder gibt. Außerdem sind die Parkgebühren
sehr hoch. Im Allgemeinen ist es bequem, trotz jeder
Bedenken, mit dem Auto zu reisen, denn oft, vor
allem in der Sommerzeit, haben die öffentlichen
Verkehrsmittel die in die angrenzenden Orte fahren,
einige Verspätungen. Somit ja zum Auto, aber nur
wenn Sie lange Fahrten planen.
Um sich vom Zentrum in Levanto fortzubewegen,
kann man die Metanbusse der Gesellschaft Consorzio
ATC La Spezia benutzen und bis ins Val di Vara
fahren, oder man entscheidet sich für die direkte,
schnelle und pünktliche Regionalbahn.
Wenn man sich in Levanto einquartiert, kann man
die so genannte 5 Terre Card mit der Gültigkeit
von einem, drei oder sieben Tagen erwerben, eine
hervorragende Initiative, die den Besuchern nicht nur
den Zugang zu den Wanderwegen im Nationalpark
ermöglicht, sondern auf Wunsch auch unbegrenzte
Fahrten mit dem Zug oder der Fähre innerhalb des
Nationalparks mit einbezieht.
In der letzten Zeit hat die Realisierung des Projekts
"Hotels Country" es möglich gemacht viele verschiedene
Unterkünfte anzubieten, um Kunden mit jeglichem
Bedürfnis zu befriedigen: von eleganten Hotels zu den
informelleren Bed&Breakfasts und Pensionen bis hin
zur Jugendherberge die sich in einem mittelalterlichen
Gebäude im historischen Zentrum mit Blick auf das
alte Dock befindet, und zu den vielen Bauernhöfen
und Ferienparks in der Stille des Tals mitten im
Grünen.

How to move about
Levanto is with no doubt the town of the cycle lines.
If you have a mountain bike or if you become fond
of cycling without pretending too much, it is the
best way to enjoy the town and to visit it, from top
to bottom. The cycle pedestrian path “Maremonti”
represents an ideal journey: it is paved and divided
by horizontal signs, it was built where there was
the former railway line that was in front of the
beach. Now the path runs for five kilometres
connecting the villages of Levanto, Bonassola and
Framura. Along the path (which is part of the cycle
net of Liguria) there are some lit tunnels and some
open air areas, from which it is possible to reach,
on foot, the many free beaches that can be found
along the coast.
It is without any doubt more difficult and surely not
cheaper, the use of your own means of transport;
Levanto is a seaside place, so it is a real strain for
tourists, parkings are expensive and there are
ZTL areas (restricted traffic areas), priority has
been given to pedestrian areas and green areas
for children, as there are playgrounds to entertain
them. It is however useful, above any consideration,
to travel by car as you can visit the neighbouring
hamlets, if you use public transport, you will have
to follow timetables and stops, sometimes buses
are late in the summer period.So we say yes to the
car, but only if you are thinking of long trips.
Travelling from the main centres to the village of
Levanto and paying convenient fees affordable
for everyone, can be done using Consorzio A.T.C.
La Spezia Line buses, and carefully following
itineraries and distances, the buses are connected
to Val di Vara, or you can also use the quick and
punctual direct regional railway. If on the other
hand you are staying in the village, apart from
cycling or walking it is also possible to obtain a
5 Terre Card, valid for one, three or seven days, a
valid option to access hiking trails and paths and
use trains or ferries, with unlimited trips.
Recently the realization of the project “Hotel
paese” has been able to satisfy everyone's needs,
as regards accomodation: from the most elegant
hotels to the more informal bed and breakfast and
guest houses, the youth hostel was built inside a
historic medioeval building in the centre of the
village, that overlooks the old docks, and then
there are many agritourisms situated among the
vegetation and the tranquillity of the valley.

Un po’ di storia

Documentazioni datate all’ epoca romana testimoniano
già al tempo l’esistenza dell’insediamento di Levanto,
conosciuto allora, con ogni probabilità, come il piccolo
borgo di Ceula. Esso costituiva un nodo strategico di
grande importanza, poichè era ubicato nel punto in cui
l'antica via ligure che proveniva dall'interno toccava la
costa.
Più in generale, partendo dalla profondità storica del
paesaggio e ripercorrendo le varie identità che la
cittadina ha assunto nei diversi periodi, dall'immagine
feudale e agricolo pastorale sulle montagne di
Bardellone, a quella comunale mercantile-marittima al
tempo della Repubblica di Genova, fino alla odierna
configurazione di polo dotato di notevole attrattiva
turistica grazie ad un elevato valore ambientale e
paesistico, arriviamo a capire come questo borgo sia
una vera e propria perla di aneddoti storici lasciata
sulla spiaggia della contemporaneità.
Nel corso degli avvenimenti che si sono succeduti,
passando prima in mano ai Malaspina, in sede
rinascimentale, e poi alla nobiltà dei Da Passano, si
concede in autonomia al dominio della Repubblica di
Genova.
Da qui in avanti comincia la sua rapida ascesa
economica, nonché il suo reale splendore
architettonico, testimoniato dai maestosi edifici
del Borgo Antico, e dalla costruzione successiva
del Borgo Nuovo nella piana del Ghiararo, utile per
collegare i transiti dal borgo alla valle; anch’esso
conserva lo snodarsi degli edifici storici sulle due vie
principali, Garibaldi e Guani.

Chiesa di Sant'Andrea ed al colle di San Giacomo subirà
un notevole ed altrettanto ovvio sviluppo; una seconda fase
di espansione è datata al XV secolo, con l'edificazione
del Borgo Nuovo o Stagno nella piana del Ghiararo,
dovuta principalmente alle rilevanti funzioni economiche
e politiche assegnate a Levanto dalla Repubblica di
Genova, le quali rendevano insufficiente la sola presenza
del borgo medioevale. Si avrà allora la nascita del Borgo
Nuovo, sull'allineamento della Via dei Monti collegante il
paesino con la valle; tale insediamento mantiene ancora
oggi il suo carattere lineare con interessanti palazzi dei
secoli XVII e XVIII, che si affacciano ai due lati delle già
citate vie Garibaldi e Guani, di recente ristrutturati tramite
il "Progetto Raffaello" dell'Unione Europea.
Durante il XVII, il paese sarà sede del Capitanato di Genova,
per poi venire conquistato dall’impero napoleonico. Sotto
la dominazione francese, rientrerà nel Dipartimento del
Vara come Capoluogo.
Nel 1815, seguendo le vicende del Congresso di Vienna
dell’anno precedente, Levanto verrà inglobato nel Regno
di Sardegna.
Ulteriore espansione urbanistica si avrà tra la fine XIX e il
XX secolo, con l’apertura degli attuali Corso Italia e Corso
Roma.
Nella prima metà del secolo appena trascorso, Levanto
raggiunge l’attuale configurazione scenica e paesaggistica,
promuovendo e ricordando con affetto la sua storia con
una cura particolare verso le sue architetture religiose, più
recenti e non.
Basti pensare all’ex convento dell’Ordine delle Clarisse
all’ombra dei portici, oggi riadattato ad ospitare la biblioteca
e il municipio, o alla Loggia comunale ben conservata. In Via
dei Forni, invece, è possibile visitare la mostra permanente
della Cultura Materiale, una importante iniziativa levantese
che racconta del suo passato contadino. Quindi in paese
potrete dedicarvi non solo alle chiese e ai racconti dei fasti
passati, ma anche ad iniziative culturali, in una convivenza
pacifica con vecchio e nuovo.
Oggi, l’impronta di Levanto si concentra per lo più sul
turismo balneare e sulla cucina tradizionale ligure, entrando
di diritto nel circuito delle città “CittàSlow”.

Des documents de l'époque romaine témoignent
qu’une colonie existait dèjà à Levanto, laquelle
était connue, selon toute probabilité, sous le
nom du petit bourg Ceuta. Ce lieu fut un point
stratégique de grande importance car il était situé
à l'endroit où l'ancienne Voie Ligure arrivait de
l'intérieur pour joindre la côte.
Plus en général, partant de la profondeur
historique du paysage, retraçant les identités que
la ville a assumée au cours des différentes périodes,
de l'image féodale et agricole pastorale sur les
montagnes de Bardellone à l’image communale de
la marine-marchande de l'époque de la République
de Gênes jusqu’à la configuration d’aujourd’hui des
pôles d’attractions touristiques conçus grâce à une
haute valeur de l’environnement et du paysage,
nous arrivons à comprendre comment cette ville est
devenue un véritable bijou d'anecdotes historiques
laissées sur la plage contemporaine.
Au cours des événements qui se sont suivis,
partant de la famille des Malaspina à l’époque de
la Renaissance, puis à la noblesse des Da Passano,
il est accordé une autonomie au domaine de la
République de Gênes.
A partir de là commence sa rapide ascension
économique et sa véritable splendeur architecturale
dont les majestueux édifices du vieux centre
en sont témoin. La construction successive du
nouveau centre dans la plaine de Ghiararo, utile
pour relier les transits de la ville à la vallée. La ville
conserve le déroulement des bâtiments historiques
sur les deux rues principales, Garibaldi et Guani.
Au cours des siècles médiévaux la vie économique
de Levanto était soutenue principalement par
les activités commerciales – le marbre "rouge du
Levanto", huiles et vins locaux - alimentée tant par
les voies de communication vers la Plaine Padana
(la Voie Francilienne) que par les routes maritimes
qui s’ouvraient sur toute la Méditerranée ; ceci est
démontré par la présence de la Loge et du chantier
naval.
Après le Moyen Age, le Bourg Antique réuni autour
de l'église Saint-André et du col Saint-Jacques
connaîtra un développement remarquable ; une
deuxième phase d'expansion est datée du XVe

siècle avec la construction du nouveau bourg ou
Stagno dans la plaine de Ghiararo. Cette œuvre est
due grâce aux importantes fonctions économiques
et politiques assignées à Levanto par la République
de Gênes qui, à l’époque, a rendu insuffisant le
simple bourg médiéval. De là, aura lieu la naissance
du Nouveau Bourg qui sera créé sur l'alignement de
la Via dei Monti qui relie le centre à la vallée; telle
position maintient encore aujourd’hui sa nature
linéaire édifiée d’intéressantes constructions du
XVIIe et XVIIIe siècles, lesquelles donnent sur les
deux côtés des rues déjà mentionnées Guani e
Garibaldi, qui récemment ont été rénovées grâce
au "Projet Raffaello" de l’Union européenne.
Au cours le XVIIe siècle la ville sera le siège de la
direction de Gênes, qui sera conquis par l’empire
Napoléonien. Sous la domination française, la ville
appartiendra au Département de Vara en tant que
chef-lieu.
En 1815, après les événements du Congrès de Vienne
de l’année précédente, Levanto sera incorporé au
royaume de la Sardaigne. Une ultérieure expansion
urbaine aura lieu entre la fin du XIXe et du XXe
siècle grâce à l'ouverture de l’actuel Corso Italia et
Corso Roma.
Dans la première moitié du siècle dernier, Levanto
atteint l’actuelle configuration de son décor et de
son paysage, promouvant avec amour le souvenir
de son histoire et offrant une attention particulière
à son architecture religieuse, parfois plus récente
et parfois non. Il suffit de penser à l'ancien couvent
de l'Ordre des Clarisses à l'ombre des arcades,
aujourd’hui reconverti pour abriter la bibliothèque
et la mairie dont la Loge municipale est bien
conservée. Dans la Via dei Forni, cependant, vous
pouvez visiter l'exposition permanente de la Culture
Matérielle, une initiative importante de Levanto
qui raconte son passé rural. Ainsi, vous pouvez vous
pencher sur les églises et sur les histoires de gloires
passées, mais aussi sur les initiatives culturelles,
le tout en harmonie entre ancien et nouveau.
Aujourd'hui, l’empreinte de Levanto se concentre
principalement sur le tourisme balnéaire et sur la
cuisine traditionnelle ligure, entrant de droit dans
le circuit de la ville "CittaSlow".

Geschichte
Alte Urkunden bezeugen, dass Levanto schon in der Römerzeit
besiedelt war, damals war Levanto aller Wahrscheinlichkeit nach
als die kleine Stadt Ceula bekannt. Es handelte sich um einen
strategischen Punkt von großer Bedeutung, da es an der Stelle lag,
wo die alte vom Land kommende Via Liguria die Küste berührte.
Allgemeiner gesagt, wenn man bei der historischen Tiefe der
Landschaft beginnt und die verschiedenen Identitäten die die Stadt
in den verschiedenen Epochen angenommen hat, betrachtet (von
den feudalen und landwirtschaflichen Eindrücken in den Bergen
von Bardellone, bis zum kommunalen See- und Handelsverkehr
zu den Zeiten der Republik Genua, bis hin zum heutigen Pol der
Dank des hohen ökologischen und landschaflichen Wertes über
bemerkenswerte Touristenattraktionen verfügt), fängt man an
zu verstehen, wie diese Stadt dazu gekommen ist, ein echtes Juwel
historischer Anekdoten zu sein.
In der Renaissance herrschte die Adelsfamilie Malaspina und
später die Familie Da Passano, danach fiel die Stadt endgültig
unter die Herrschaft der Republik Genua.
In dieser Zeit begannen der rasche wirtschaftliche Aufschwung
und die wahre architektonische Blüte; davon zeugen noch
heute die wunderschönen Gebäude der Altstadt, nahe der
Kirche von Sant’Andrea, sowie Bauten des später errichteten
neuen Stadtteils in der Ebene von Ghiararo, die Stadt und Tal
miteinander verbindet. In den mittelalterlichen Jahrhunderten
wird das wirtschaftliche Leben Levantos hauptsächlich von
gewerblichen Aktivitäten dominiert - „Red Levanto“ Marmor,
lokaler Wein und Öl – über die Straßen in Richtung der Poebene
(die Via Francigena) sowie über die Schifffahrtsrouten, die sich
über den gesamten Mittelmeerraum verteilten; dies wird durch
die Anwesenheit der Loggia und des Hafenbeckens unter Beweis
gestellt. Nach dem Mittelalter erlitt der antike Teil der sich um
die Kirche Sant’Andrea und den Hügel von St. Giacomo wand,
eine bemerkenswerte und ebenso offensichtliche Entwicklung;
eine zweite Phase der Expansion führt mit dem Aufbau der neuen
Ortschaft oder dem Dorfteich in der Ebene von Ghiararo in das
fünfzehnte Jahrhundert zurück, vor allem wegen der erheblichen

wirtschaftlichen Funktionen und Richtlinien die Levanto von der
Republik Genua zugewiesen wurden, die die bloße Anwesenheit
des mittelalterlichen Dorfes unzureichend fanden. Somit wurde
das neue Dorf geboren, über die Via dei Monti die das Dorf mit
dem Tal verbindet; diese Siedlung behält noch heute seine lineare
Natur mit interessanten Gebäuden aus dem siebzehnten und
achtzehnten Jahrhundert, die sich an beiden Seiten der bereits
genannten Straßen Garibaldi und Guani erheben und vor
kurzem mit dem "Projekt Raffaello" der Europäischen Union
restauriert wurde.
Während des siebzehnten Jahrhunderts wird Levanto der
Landsitz der Anführer von Genua sein, um dann vom Kaiserreich
Napoleons erobert zu werden. Unter französischem Gesetz wird
Levanto wieder unter dem Bezirk Vara als Provinzhauptstadt
geführt.
Im Jahr 1815, nach den Ereignissen des vergangenen Jahres auf
dem Wiener Kongress, wird Levanto im Königreich Sardinien
aufgenommen.
Eine weitere Stadterweiterung wird zwischen dem späten
neunzehnten und zwanzigsten Jahrhundert mit der Eröffnung
des aktuellen Corso Italia und Corso Roma vorgenommen.
In der ersten Hälfte des letzten Jahrhunderts hat Levanto sein
heutiges Aussehen bekommen, wobei es liebevoll an seine
Geschichte erinnert und besonderen Wert auf die Erhaltung der
alten und neuen religiösen Stätten gelegt hat.
Beispiele dafür sind das ehemalige Kloster des Klarissenordens,
das heute unter seinen Laubengängen die Bibliothek und die
Gemeinde beherbergt, und die gut erhaltene Loggia. In der Via
dei Forni kann man die Dauerausstellung über Kulturgüter
besuchen, eine wichtige Initiative der Stadt, die von ihrer
bäuerlichen Vergangenheit und nicht nur von der prachtvollen
Geschichte der Kirchen erzählt.
Sie soll ein friedliches Zusammenleben von Neu und Alt
fördern. Heute konzentriert sich Levanto hauptsächlich auf den
Sommertourismus und auf die traditionell ligurische Küche,
wofür die Stadt auch offiziell den Titel „CittaSlow“ erhalten hat.

A little History

Documents of the roman age prove that the village of
Levanto already exhisted at that time, it was probably
known at the time as the small hamlet of Ceula. It
was a key point of great importance, as it was located
on the old via Ligure that went from the hinterland
to the coast.
More generally speaking, starting from its deep
historic landscape and following the various
identities that the small town has had in the different
periods, it started in feudal times when they used
to farm on the hills of Bardellone, it then became a
merchant maritime town at the time of the Republic
of Genoa, it then reached the actual shape, that
attracts many tourist thanks to the high enviroment
landscape value, we understand how this village
is a proper gem with historic anedocts left on the
contemporary beach.
As time passed the village was first under the
Malaspina family during the Reinassance, then
under the noble family Da Passano and after as part
of the Republic of Genoa.
From this period on, the economic life of the village
was mainly focused on its merchant actitivities, the
red Levanto marble, wine and local olive oil, the
trade was helped by the roads that led towards the
Pianura Padana (via Francigena) and also by the
shipping routes on the whole Mediterranean Sea,
this is demonstrated by the Loggia and the Docks.
After the Middle Ages the ancient hamlet, gathered
around the church of Saint Andrew and the hill of
Saint James underwent a considerable and obvious
development; a second phase of expansion can be
dated XV century, when Borgo Nuovo or Stagno was
built in the plane of Ghiararo, this was due mainly to
the economic and political role given to Levanto by

insufficient, that's the reason of the birth of Borgo Nuovo, along
Via dei Monti, connecting the small hamlet to the valley: this
settlment has been kept as it was, with its interesting buildings
of XVII and XVIII centuries, that overlook on both sides Via
Garibaldi and Via Guani, they have been recently renovated
thanks to the project of the E.U. “Progetto Raffaello”. During
the XVII century the village was the seat of the Captaincy of
Genoa that was conquered by Napoleon's empire. Under the
French domination the area became part of the Department
of Vara as chief town.
In 1815 after the Congress of Vienna of the previous year,
Levanto became part of the Kingdom of Sardinia. A further
expansion of the town planning, took place at the end of the
nineteenth and twentieth centuries, with the birth of the
actual Corso Italia and Corso Roma .
In the first haf of the past century Levanto reached the present
shape, promoting and remembering with care its history, with
particular attention not only to the recent religiuos buildings.
Just think of the former convent of the Poor Clares, under the
shade of the porticos, today it has been converted and hosts
the library, the Town Hall or also the well preserved Council
Loggia. In Via dei Forni it is possible to visit the Permanent
Exhibition of Material Culture, an important initiative of
Levanto that tells us about its rural past, in the village you can
spend your time not only visiting churches or admiring its
past splendour, but also taking part to cultural initiatives, in a
peaceful cohabitation between new and old.
Levanto nowadays concentrates mainly on seaside tourism
and on the traditional Ligurian cuisine, and has been included
with merit in the circuit of “CittaSlow”.

La cucina di Levanto
Nella perfetta tradizione gastronomica della zona, anche Levanto
approfitta dei frutti della terra per mettere in tavola il meglio dell’orto,
del pescato e perché no, delle sue abili massaie.
Numerosi sono infatti i frantoi oleari, le cooperative e i caseifici che per
tutta la vallata mettono a disposizione spacci ad offerte vantaggiose;
gli insaccati, le torte dolci e salate e gli stufati, senza dimenticarci
della focaccia fragrante alle cipolle di Pignone, sono ricette riservate
alle - nonchè gelosamente custodite - più sapienti mani delle donne
del posto. Ma vediamo con ordine cosa ci propone lo slow food di
Levanto.
Cominciamo con un ottimo vino nativo, da gustare in compagnia di
formaggi sapidi o cacciagione, o con il tradizionale coniglio alla ligure:
il Colli di Levanto, nella sua variante rossa, corposa e persistente.
Per accompagnare il soggiorno con un particolare e ineguagliabile
primo piatto, non diciamo mai di no ai “gattafin”, i tipici ravioloni
ripieni di erbe selvatiche e bietole, uova, formaggio e un pizzico di
maggiorana, insaporiti con il mai dimenticato olio extravergine D.O.P.
e il parmigiano del vicino parmense. Ci sono due teorie sulla radice del
nome: una vuole che alluda alla raccolta di erbette selvatiche in località
La Gatta, l’altra si lega alla parola trecentesca “gattafure”, sorta di
torte rinascimentali che si consumavano fritte, poi rivisitate in chiave
moderna come ravioli.
Altri primi gustosi sono la Panissa, specie di testo a base di farina
di ceci, tagliato sottile e poi fritto, servito spesso come antipasto, la
Torta di Riso, salata e a base di riso bollito, uova e formaggio, cotta al
forno, i Cannolini in brodo, pasta corta al formaggio da lessare, serviti
con abbondante pecorino grattugiato, le crepes al pesto, arricchite

ulteriormente dalla besciamella, arrotolate e messe in una
pirofila ben calda. Squisito il Preboggion, un minestrone che
esalta il sapore della verza primaticcia, la borragine e il radicchio
selvatico, assieme ad altre erbe locali.
Approfittiamo della cena per scoprire le meraviglie di un mare
pescoso e pulitissimo, diciamoci disposti ad assaggiare tutto
quello che riguarda acciughe, orate, dentici e polpi freschissimi
e guarniti con patate e cipolle. Entrambi questi prodotti della
terra li troverete in abbondanza nella valle di Pignone.
Proprio le acciughe sono fondamentali nella cucina di Levanto, e
le troviamo marinate, salate, in bagnun, sulla focaccia, ma anche
e soprattutto ripiene, come felice piatto unico, con pomodoro e
pan grattato. Piatto invernale ma da ordinare assolutamente è lo
stoccafisso, servito in umido con le patate, in periodo primaverile
sostituito dalla famosa “cima” alla genovese, una tasca di carne
ripiena composto da carne trita, uova, piselli e dall’immancabile
maggiorana.
Olive e verdure ripiene, preparate con mollica di pane bagnato,
parmigiano, mortadella, un trito di aglio e prezzemolo, colorano
le portate. Sempre attuale il coniglio alla ligure, con olive e pinoli.
Nei formaggi, spicca il pecorino stagionato di Levanto.
Concludiamo con i dolci: miele di castagno, dal leggero sapore
affumicato, adatto ad accompagnarsi con ricotta e frutta fresca
e, indicata per i palati più sfiziosi, la marmellata di agrumi fatta in
casa, da spalmare sul pane imburrato. A fine pasto vi attendono
i Canestrelli, biscotti ottenuti dalla lavorazione di farina, uova,
burro e zucchero, e i Baci di Levanto, prodotti in loco da più
di cinquant’anni e derivati da un dolce siciliano, con cuore di
nocciola e mandorle in un guscio di cioccolato.

En parfait accord avec la tradition gastronomique de la région, Levanto
profite de ses produits pour mettre sur la table le meilleur du verger, le
meilleur poisson, le tout préparé par les meilleures cuisinières.
En effet, nombreux moulins à olives produisent l’huile des olives
locales, coopératives et laiteries offrent directement au public à prix
avantageux leur production : saucisses, gâteaux, tartes et ragoûts,
sans oublier la focaccia croquante aux oignons de Pignone. Toutes ces
recettes, la plupart confectionnées par les mains habiles des femmes
du terroir sont jalousement tenues secrètes. Maintenant voyons ce qui
nous offre le slow food de Levanto.
Commençons par un bon vin local qui accompagne les produits de la
chasse ou le traditionnel lapin à la Ligure ou les fromages piquants : il
s’agit du rouge Colli di Levanto dont la saveur corpulente et persistante
en fait sa caractéristique.
Durant le séjour, savourer ce qu’on appelle « le premier plat » est
indispensable. Par exemple il est impossible de refuser ce premier
spécial et unique dénommé "gattafin". Ce sont des gougères typiques
dont la farce est composée de blettes, d’œufs, de fromage parmesan en
provenance de Parme, d’herbes sauvages, d’une pincée de marjolaine
et le tout aromatisé avec l'huile d'olive extra vierge D.O.P. Deux
théories existent à propos de la racine du nom « gattafin »: une fait
allusion à la récolte des herbes sauvages dans la localité de La Gatta,
l’autre liée au mot du quatorzième « gattafure", qui était une sorte
de tarte qui se mangeait fritte, qui après, a pris une touche moderne
en prenant le nom de ravioloni.
D’autres « premiers plats » savoureux : la Panissa à forme de galette
composée de farine de pois chiches taillée fine pour être fritte, parfois
la Panissa sera servie comme hors-d’ouvre. Le gâteau de riz salé cuit au
four confectionné de riz bouilli, d’œufs et de fromage. Les cannolini au
bouillon, il s’agit d’une pâte courte qui sera cuite au bouillon et servie
avec du Pecorino (fromage de brebis). Les crêpes enroulées avec du
pesto (spécialité de Genès) et enrichies de béchamel passées au four.
L’exquise preboggion, soupe qui rehausse la saveur des premiers choux
verts, de la bourrache et de la chicorée sauvage, ainsi que d'autres
herbes locales.
Profitons du dîner pour découvrir les merveilles d'une mer propre et
pleine de poissons. Disons que nous sommes disposés à tout déguster,
les anchois, la daurade, le vivaneau et le poulpe frais garni de pommes
de terre et d’oignons. Les produits du terroir seront disponibles sur
toute la vallée de Pignone.

Les anchois sont essentiels dans la cuisine de Levanto, ils
sont marinés, salés, farcis et servis comme plat principal
avec tomates et chapelure, on les trouve aussi sur la
fameuse focaccia. Un autre plat intéressant bien qu’il soit
hivernal est la morue salée et séchée servie à l’étuvée
et accompagnée de pommes de terre. Au printemps ce
dernier plat est remplacé par la fameuse « cima » à la
mode de Gènes, il s’agit d’une poche de viande farcie d’un
mélange haché composé de viande de bœuf, d’œufs,
de petit-pois et de marjolaine. Les olives et légumes
farcis, préparés avec la mie de pain humide, fromage
parmesan, mortadelle, ail et persil haché colorent les
plats. Toujours présent le lapin ligure confectionné avec
olives et pignons. Le pecorino affiné est un fromage
noté de Levanto. Concluons par les desserts : miel de
châtaignier dont l’arôme légèrement fumé est adapté
pour accompagner lait caillé (ricotta) et fruits frais, il
est indiqué aux palais des gourmands et gourmets. La
confiture d'agrumes faite maison pour étaler sur du pain
beurré. En fin repas les Canestrelli vous attendent, ce
sont des biscuits obtenus à partir de la transformation
de la farine, œufs, beurre et sucre. Les Baci (bisous) de
Levanto sont des produits confectionnés sur place depuis
plus de cinquante ans et sont composés d’un mélange
de noisettes et d'amandes au centre et d’une coquille de
chocolat autour, ils dérivent d’une recette sicilienne.

und der lokalen Hausfrauenproduktion auf den Tisch zu
bringen.
Es gibt zahlreiche Ölmühlen, Landwirtschaftsgenossenschaften
und Käsereien, die Produkte wie Wurstwaren, süße und pikante
Torten, Schmorbraten und das duftende Pizzabrot mit Zwiebeln
aus Pignone, Focaccia genannt, im ganzen Tal zu günstigen
Preisen anbieten. Die Geheimnisse der Rezepte werden von den
einheimischen Frauen mit ihren geschickten Händen behutsam
gehütet.
Die Slow Food Angebote in Levanto bieten eine breite Palette an
lokalen Produkten:
Beginnen wir mit einem hervorragenden Wein, den man mit
würzigem Käse, Wild oder dem traditionell auf ligurische Art
zubereiteten Kaninchen genießen sollte: der so genannte Colli di
Levanto, ein gehaltvoller Rotwein.
Auf einen besonderen, unvergleichlichen ersten Gang, den
so genannten „Gattafin“, die typischen Ravioli, gefüllt mit
Kräutern, Eiern und Käse, verfeinert mit dem köstlichen
Olivenöl extravergine d.o.p. und Parmesankäse aus dem nahen
Parma darf man auf keinen Fall verzichten.
Es gibt zwei Theorien über die Entstehung des Namens: eine
besagt, dass die Füllung aus Wildkräutern besteht, die aus der
Lokalität La Gatta stammen, die andere bindet sich an das Wort
„gattafure“ aus dem Jahr 300, eine Art Renaissancekuchen, den
man frittiert genoss und den man in der modernen Zeit als
Raviolo wieder erfunden hat.
Weitere Leckereien sind Panissa, eine Art Pfannkuchen aus
Kichererbsemehl, dünn geschnitten und dann frittiert, oft als
Vorspeise angeboten, der salzige im Ofen gebackene Reiskuchen
auf Base von gekochtem Reis, Eiern und Käse, die Cannolini
Nudeln in Brühe, kurze gekochte Käsenudeln die mit viel

geriebenem Pecorino Käse serviert werden, Crepes mit Pesto, mit
Bechamellesauce verfeinert, aufgerollt und in einer Auflaufform
aufgebacken. Exquisit die „preboggion“, eine Gemüsesuppe, die
nach Kohl, Borretsch und wildem Zichorie schmeckt und dessen
Geschmack durch Zusatz von anderen lokalen Kräutern noch
verbessert wird.
Am Abend hat man die Gelegenheit, die vorzüglichen Produkte
eines fischreichen und sauberen Meeres, Sardellen, Goldbrassen,
Zahnbrassen und fangfrische Tintenfische zu probieren. Sie
werden mit Gemüse, Kartoffeln und Zwiebeln, die aus dem Tal
von Pignone stammen, serviert.
Gerade Sardellen sind von wesentlicher Bedeutung in der
Küche von Levanto, es gibt sie mariniert, gesalzen, in Bagnun
(eine Art Suppe), auf der Focaccia, aber auch und besonders,
als Hauptgericht mit Tomaten und Semmelbrösel gefüllt. Ein
Wintergericht, aber absolut zu probieren ist der Stoccafisso
(getrockneter Kabeljau), er wird mit gedünsteten Kartoffeln
serviert und im Frühjahr von dem berühmten Genuesischen
„Cima“ ersetzt, eine Fleischtasche die mit Hackfleisch, Eier,
Erbsen und dem unvermeidlichen Majoran gefüllt ist. Oliven
und mit einem Mix aus nassen Brotkrumen, Parmesan Käse,
Mortadella, gehacktem Knoblauch und Petersilie gefülltes
Gemüse, geben den typischen Gerichten ihre Farbe. Immer
aktuell ist das Kaninchen auf ligurische Art mit Oliven
und Pinienkernen. Der herausstechende Käse ist hier der
gereifte Pecorino von Levanto. Als Dessert empfehlen wir den
Kastanienhonig mit seinem leicht geräucherten Geschmack,
der auch bestens in Kombination mit Ricotta und frischen
Früchten gegessen werden kann oder etwas Besonderes für
Feinschmecker: die hausgemachten Zitrusmarmeladen. Am
Ende der Mahlzeit erwarten Sie die Canestrelli, Kekse aus
der Verarbeitung von Mehl, Eier, Butter und Zucker, und die
„Küsse“ von Levanto, gefüllt mit Haselnüssen und Mandeln
in einer Schokoladenhülle, seit über fünfzig Jahren vor Ort
produziert und von einem sizilianischen Nachtisch stammend.

Even Levanto takes advantage, from the perfect Ligurian
tradition of the products and of the land, displaying on the
table, the best of its vegetable gardens, its daily catch and
why not also the skills of its housewives.
There are in fact many olive oil mills, cooperatives
and cheese factories that have shops in the valley, with
convenient offers and prices; salami, cakes and pies, stews
without forgetting the crunchy focaccia, the onions from
Pignone, the well kept secret recipes, made by the skillfull
hands of the local women. But let's see what kind of slow
food Levanto has to offer. We start with an excellent wine
to taste with savoury cheeses or game, or the traditional
Ligurian rabbit: Colli di Levanto red wine, full bodied
and persistant. To accompany your stay with a particular
and unique main dish, we cannot say no to “gattafin”, the
typical ravioli stuffed with wild herbs, chard, eggs, cheeses
and a pinch of majoram, they are flavoured with the never
forgotten extravergin p.d.o.olive oil and parmigiano cheese
from the near area of Parma.
There are two theories about the name Gattafin, one
mentions the women who used to pick wild herbs in an
area called La Gatta, the other one mentions the fourth
century word “gattafure” a sort of Reinassance cake
that was fried and eaten, the recipe was then changed to
look like the modern ravioli. Other tasty main dishes are
Panissa, a sort of pancake made with chickpea flour, sliced
and then fried, it is often served as a starter; Torta di riso,
rice cake, savoury and sweet made with boiled rice, eggs
and cheese, baked in the oven, Cannolini with broth, short
pasta with cheese, served with plenty of grated pecorino
cheese, crepes with pesto sauce, and besciamella, rolled
and put in a hot oven tray. The delicious Preboggion, a
minestrone that enhances the first Savoy cabbage, borage
and wild radicchio, together with the local wild herbs. We
take advantage of the dinner, to discover the wonders of
the clean sea full of fish, we are willing to taste everything
that has to do with anchovies, sea breams, snappers and the
very fresh octopus, served with potatoes and onions, both
products can be found in abudance in the valley of Pignone.
The anchovies are a fundamental ingredient of the cuisine
in Levanto, we can find them marinated, salted, in bagnum,
on focaccia and mainly stuffed, served as main dish with
tomato and grated bread. A winter dish absolutely to order is
Stoccafisso, served in stew with potatoes, in spring it can be
replaced by the famous “cima” a meat pocket stuffed with
minced meat, eggs, peas and the unmissable majoram.
Olives and stuffed vegetables, prepared with wet bread
crumbs, parmigiano cheese, mortadella, chopped garlic
and parsley, colour the dishes. Another dish which is still
served is rabbit cooked “alla Ligure” with olives and pine
nuts. Among the cheeses the mature pecorino from Levanto
stands out. We finish with the desserts, chestnut honey,
with a light smoked taste, suitable to be accompany ricotta
cheese and fresh fruit and for the most demanding tastes
home made citrus marmelade, to spreas on buttered bread.
At the end of the meal Canestrelli biscuits are waiting for
you, they are made with flour, eggs, butter and sugar, and
Baci di Levanto a local product which have been made for
over fifty year, the recipe comes from a Sicilian cake, they
are made with a hazel and almond heart, closed inside a
chocolate shell.

Una cosa curiosa riguardo Levanto, è la possibilità che
offre nel visitare a piedi tutte le sue principali attrattive,
seguendo un itinerario che completa il paese nel trittico
di città, mare e natura. Il centro della cittadina racchiude
la parte più antica del paese, che conserva ancora tratti
delle mura, con le porte che ne delimitavano i confini
sempre più ampi col passare del tempo, il castello, la
darsena medievale, la loggia e le vie che conducevano
"fuori porta". Accanto alle numerose testimonianze di
un passato ricco di storia e cultura convive la cittadina
moderna, sviluppatasi con i collegamenti ferroviario e
viario verso la vicina autostrada, con una dinamica rete
commerciale e con i servizi dedicati alla fruizione turistica
sostenibile. Subito accanto a queste più moderne
strutture, si possono percorrere i carrugi, o la più nota
passeggiata della “Pietra”, che portano entrambi dal
mare all’alloggiamento di Villa Agnelli e dei giardini -
non solo un piacevole punto di sosta, ma un complesso
all’avanguardia dotato di spiaggia privata, campi da
tennis e piscine.
Villa e area verde presiedono al vero e proprio centro storico
del paese; nei pressi, troviamo l’antico edificio difensivo del
Castello, oggi privato. Costeggiamo le strette vie adiacenti
le mura medievali, fino alla chiesa gotica di Sant’Andrea,
che dà il nome alla piazza, arrivando a quella attigua del
Popolo. Lì, ci troviamo di fronte alla Loggia, di origine
medievale, punto di raccolta principale se si vuole arrivare
al borgo antico e all’oratorio di San Giacomo, tornando al
mare tagliando attraverso la Darsena. Nell’estrema periferia
del paese, l’imponente e soleggiato santuario di Nostra
Signora della Guardia ci aspetta, la domenica, per la santa
messa che richiama paesani vicini e più lontani.
Consigliamo caldamente di visitare le frazioni di
Lavaggiorosso, straordinario esempio di urbanistica rurale
ligure, con i carruggi stretti attorno alle case, per altro tutte
cresciute in altezza lungo l’arco collinare, e Chiesanuova,
paesino a picco sul promontorio del Mesco e madrina dei
resti del suggestivo eremo di Sant’Antonio.

La chose curieuse de Levanto est cette possibilité de visiter à pied toutes
ses principales attractions, suivant un itinéraire qui inclut ville, mer
et nature. Le centre-ville contient la partie la plus ancienne, laquelle
conserve encore une partie des murailles avec ses portes qui délimitaient
les entrées de la ville. Au fil du temps, le château, le quai médiéval, la
loggia et les rues qui mènent à la zone en dehors des portes appelée «
fuori le mura » ont été construites.
Mis à part les nombreux témoignages d'un passé riche en histoire et
culture coexiste la ville moderne qui a été développée grâce à des liaisons
ferroviaires, routières et autoroute à proximité, grâce aussi à un réseau
commercial et grâce encore à un service d'affaires dynamiques orienté
vers le tourisme.
À côté de ces modernes structures il est possible de se promener dans
les ruelles ou bien sur la plus célèbre promenade la "Pietra”. Ruelles et
Pietra nous conduisent de la mer, à la Villa Agnelli avec ses jardins qui est
non seulement un édifice plaisant où se restaurer, mais aussi représente
un complexe d’avant-garde compris de plages privées, courts de tennis
et piscines. Villa et espace vert régissent le véritable centre de la ville.
Tout près, nous trouvons l’antique bâtisse défensive du château avec les
particuliers bas-reliefs visibles de l’intérieur de l'Annonciation de Saint-
George. Nous côtoyons les ruelles étroites sous les murailles médiévales
jusqu’à rejoindre l’église gothique Sant'Andrea qui donne son nom à la
place, tout près on trouve celle du Popolo. Là, on se trouve en face de
la Loggia d'origine médiévale, point de rencontre principal si l’on peut
rejoindre le bourg antique et l’oratoire de San Giacomo en revenant à la
mer en coupant par le port de plaisance.
Dans la périphérie extrême de la ville, l'impressionnant et ensoleillé
sanctuaire de Notre-Dame de la Garde nous attend, le dimanche, des
gens des alentours et des proches se rassemblent pour assister à la messe.
Nous vous recommandons vivement de visiter: Lavaggiorosso,
extraordinaire exemple d’urbanisme rural italien avec ses ruelles étroites
qui contournent les maisons, qui d’ailleurs ont toutes été construites sur
les flancs de la colline.

La cucina propone piatti del territorio, con
materie prime sia di mare che di terra, pane e
alcune paste preparate artigianalmente con
farine scelte. Grande selezione di vini, italiani
e del territorio, che accompagnano i piatti
proposti.
The tavern has been recently opened, it is
situated in a place where there have been
several business activities since the end of
1800, the origin of its name comes from the
valley where there was the Medioevall Port
of Levanto. The cuisine offers dishes of the
territory, fish and meat, bread and some
home made pasta prepared with chosen
flours. There is a great selection of Italian
wines and of the territory that accompany
the dishes offered.

Eine Besonderheit von Levanto ist, dass man die wichtigsten Sehenswürdigkeiten
alle zu Fuß besuchen kann und unterwegs immer wieder die Trilogie Stadt, Meer
und Natur vor Augen hat. Im Stadtzentrum ist der älteste Teil des Ortes, hier findet
man noch Teile der Mauern mit Toren, die die immer größer werdende Grenzen
im Laufe der Zeit festlegten, die Burg, das mittelalterliche Dock, die Loggia und
die Strassen die aus der Stadt führten. Ausser den zahlreichen Zeugnissen einer
Vergangenheit reich an Geschichte und Kultur hat sich Levanto zu einer modernen
Stadt mit Bahn- und Straßenverbindungen zu den nahe gelegenen Autobahnen, mit
einem dynamischen Geschäftsnetz und Dienstleistungen für einen funktionierenden
Tourismus entwickelt. Man kann die engen Gassen entlang, Caruggi genannt, in
der Fußgängerzone oder die bekannte Promenade „Pietra“, die vom Meer zur Villa
Agnelli und zu den Gärten führen, spazieren gehen.
Das historische Zentrum der Stadt ist nicht nur ein beliebter Ort für eine
Erfrischung, sondern auch eine moderne Anlage mit Privatstrand, Tennisplatz und
Swimming Pool.
In der Nähe befindet sich die antike Festung (besonders sehenswert sind die Reliefs
von Maria Verkündigung und San Giorgio im Inneren). Man geht durch die engen
Gassen entlang der mittelalterlichen Mauern bis zur gotischen Kirche S. Andrea,
die dem Platz seinen Namen gibt. An der angrenzenden Piazza des Popolo befinden
wir uns vor der mittelalterlichen Loggia, von der aus man in die Altstadt und zum
Oratorium San Giacomo gelangt.
Am Stadtrand befindet sich der Wallfahrtsort Nostra Signora della Guardia in
sonniger Lage wo uns Sonntags die Messe erwartet, die nahe und ferne Einwohner
anzieht.
Wir empfehlen allen einen Besuch des Ortsteils Lavaggiorosso, der mit den engen
Carruggi und Häusern, die rund um einen Hügel in die Höhe gebaut worden
sind, ein außerordentliches Beispiel für ligurische Städteplanung auf dem Land
ist. Chiesanuova, den Ortsteil, der an der Landspitze des Mesco erbaut wurde,
bezeichnet man als „Patin“ der Einsiedelei von San’Antonio.

P laces of Interest
A curious thing about Levanto, is the possibility of visiting on foot all its main
places of interest, following an itinerary that completes the village in a triptyque
of town, sea and nature. The centre of the small town contains the oldest part of
the village, that still maintains the city walls and the entrance gates that marked
the borders that have becone wider, as time passed, the castle, the medioeval
dock, the loggia and the roads that led “outside town”.
Along with the many evidences of its past, rich in history and culture, there is
a modern town, that has developed thanks to the railway and the roads of the
near motorway, it has become a dynamic commercial net with excellent services
dedicated to a sustainable tourist use.
Right next to the modern buidings, it is possible to go along the carrugi, or the
well known “Pietra” promenade that leads to Villa Agnelli and its gardens; it is
not only a pleasant refreshment place, but also an avant-garde area with a private
beach, tennis grounds and swimming pools. The villa and the green area lead
the proper historic centre of the village, nearby we find the ancient defensive
building, the Castle, with its characteristic bas reliefs of the Annunciation and
that of Saint George, that can be viewed inside, then we can go along the narrow
streets adjacent to the medioeveal city walls, till we reach the Gothic church of
Saint Andrew, that also gives the name to the square, after we find the adjacent
Piazza del Popolo; here we are in front of the medioeval Loggia, a main gathering
place, if we want to reach the ancient village and the oratory of Saint James, going
back to the beach passing through the docks.
In the far outskirts of the village, the imposing and sunny sanctuary of Nostra
Signora della Guardia, is waiting for us for the Sunday holy mess that gathers
all the near and far inhabitants. We kindly suggest you to visit the hamlets of
Lavaggiorosso, an extraordinary example of rural Ligurian planning with its
carruggi tight around the houses, all built in height along the hilly arch and
Chiesanuova, a small hamlet that overlooks the promontory of Mesco and is
godmother of the ruins of the evocative hermitage of Saint Anthony.

Quello che rende speciale Levanto è un antico connubio tra
mare e montagna, tra spiaggia fine e colle pedemontano.
Comprensivo del territorio del Parco delle Cinque Terre e di
quello della Riviera Spezzina, offre al visitatore attento due
spettacoli che, dalla zona marina protetta a quella del parco
sepolto nei pini, non finiscono mai di stupire.
Collegato alle Cinque Terre dalle due direttrici stradali,
ovvero la statale interna e il percorso a picco sulla costa,
non si dimentichi che esistono collegamenti minori tra
mare e montagna, riconducibili alla fitta innervatura di
sentieri inseriti tra orti, uliveti, vigneti, castagneti e macchia
mediterranea. Sono, questi, più di un ottantina di chilometri
contando quelli battuti e non, tutti quanti comunicanti con i
borghi di confine, facilmente raggiungibili anche in auto.
La quasi totalità dei percorsi da compiere a piedi non
presenta difficoltà di percorrenza, è adatta sia agli
escursionisti che alle famiglie dedite alle passeggiate, ed
è segnalata con una cartellonistica che indica le distanze in
minuti dai borghi più vicini. Vi suggeriamo tre alternative: il
percorso che va da Levanto a Monterosso, lungo i sentieri
numero 1 (dalla passeggiata a mare di Levanto) e 10 del
C.A.I., che seguono la costa e attraversano il Parco
Nazionale delle Cinque Terre; quello da Fossato a Montale,
attraverso i sentieri numero 30 e 30°, costeggiando i
borghi medievali di Lizza, Lavaggiorosso, Groppo, Dosso
e Casella, imperdibile l’antico mulino ad acqua all’inizio
della tratta; l’ultimo percorso va da Madonna della Guardia
alle Ghiare, percorrendo i sentieri numero 12, 30 e 30A
e attraversa i borghi di Ridarolo, Fontona, Chiesanuova,
Legnaro, Lerici, Pastine e Vignana, agevole ma con tratti
Vallesanta beach
ripidi prima di Ridarolo.
Più recentemente è stata inaugurata la passeggiata che
collega Bonassola e Framura con Levanto, praticabile in
entrambi i sensi di percorrenza e valorizzata da numerose
aree verdi e da una comoda pista ciclabile.
Nella natura che circonda Levanto è facile imbattersi in
falchi e poiane, i primi autoctoni e le seconde giunte in volo
dalla Toscana, come nella numerosa varietà di mammiferi
tra i quali le volpi e, come spesso abbiamo accennato, ad
occasionali visite dei lupi, in transito dall’Appennino.
Un’attenzione particolare va rivolta ai sentieri battuti nella
stagione della caccia. Poco visibili, tra le pinete scoscese,
spesso non sono nemmeno tracciati a norma, poiché creati
dagli stessi cacciatori e, per ovvie esigenze, prossimi alle
tane dei cinghiali: perciò scegliete sempre e solo percorsi
muniti di apposita segnaletica.
Scarpe alte in estate e in primavera lungo i terrazzamenti,
scongiurano incontri con vipere e serpenti d’acqua.
Ulteriore attenzione va rivolta al tenere pulito il Parco, che
si occupa, tra le altre cose, della manutenzione degli stessi
terrazzamenti, da sempre parte del territorio.
Sul litorale, che si estende ad arco per quasi un chilometro,
con larghe spiagge in sabbia o ciottoli al centro e suggestive
scogliere alle due estremità, si trovano stabilimenti balneari
attrezzati con servizi per persone disabili, aree lasciate al
libero utilizzo dei bagnanti, e un polo nautico con moderni
servizi dedicati al noleggio di imbarcazioni.
Vi sarà possibile fare escursioni lungo la costa, alla ricerca di
grotte e calette dove fare il bagno, arrivando alle immersioni
guidate.

Nature
L’antique combinaison harmonieuse entre mer et montagne,
plages de sable fin et pieds de collines font de Levanto un
lieu spécial. Il fait partie du territoire du Parc National des
Cinque Terre et de la Riviera de La Spezia. Les spectacles
de l'aire marine protégée et le parc de pins ne cesseront
jamais de surprendre le visiteur attentif. Levanto est relié
aux Cinque Terre par les deux axes routiers principaux, la
route départementale et la route à pic sur le littoral. En
outre quatre-vingt petites routes intérieures et sentiers
battus relient mer à montagne, lesquels sont insinués entre
vergers, oliveraies, vignes, châtaigniers et maquis typiques
de la méditerranée, tous reliés entre eux qui mènent aux
bourgs et aux villages limitrophes. Dans tous les cas ces
localités sont aussi accessibles en voiture. La presque totalité
des chemins pédestres ne présente aucune difficulté, elle
est adaptée par les passionnés de la randonnée que par
les familles ferventes de la promenade. Tous les parcours
sont signalés indiquant la distance en minutes des localités
les plus proches. Nous proposons trois alternatives : _ le
parcours qui va de Levanto à Monterosso par le sentier N°
1 (à partir de la promenade Levanto mer) et par le sentier
10 du C.A.I. Ces deux sentiers longent la côte et traversent
le Parc National des Cinque Terre. _ le parcours qui va de
Fossato à Montale empruntant les sentiers 30 et 30° qui
côtoient les villages médiévaux de Lizza, Lavaggiorosso,
Groppo, Dosso et Casella (bien noter l'ancien moulin à eau
au début du parcours). _ le dernier parcours qui va de la
Madonna de la Guardia à Ghiare empruntant les sentiers
12, 30 et 30A passe au milieu des villages de Ridarolo,
Fontona, Chiesanuova, Legnaro, Lerici, Pastine et Vignana.
Ce parcours est facile, seulement quelques raides passages
avant Ridarolo. Plus récemment Il a été inauguré la belle piste
cyclable qui relie Bonassola, Framura et Levanto, praticable
dans les deux sens, elle a été valorisée par de nombreux
espaces verts. Dans l’environnement naturel autour de
Levanto se cachent des faucons et des buses, les premiers
sont natifs des lieux alors que les seconds proviennent de la
Toscane en volant. Dans cette nature cohabite une grande
variété de mammifères comme par exemple des renards,
mais aussi des loups en transit provenant des Apennins ont
été recensés. Durant la saison de la chasse, une attention
particulière doit être observée sur les sentiers. Le long des
bois de pins en pente non délimités, les traces des animaux
sont peu visibles même auprès des refuges des sangliers. Par
conséquent il est vivement conseillé de choisir exclusivement
des parcours signalés. Par protection, il est conseillé de
chausser de hautes bottes sur les champs en terrasse au cas
où vipères et couleuvres se trouveraient sur le chemin. Lors
des promenades, il est demandé de tenir le territoire aussi
propre que possible, d’ailleurs l’organisation du Parc a la
charge d’entretenir les champs en terrasses.
La côte en arc longue de un kilomètre est formée aux
extrémités de deux massifs rocheux suggestifs, de plages
de sable fin et d’une plage de galets au centre. Certaines
de ces plages sont libres d’accès et d’autres sont équipées
d’établissements balnéaires avec installation appropriée
pour handicapés. Un centre nautique aux services modernes
s’emploie à la location de bateaux pour satisfaire vos
excursions le long de la côte à la recherche de grottes et de
criques pour nager, pour faire de la plongée libre ou guidée.

Was die Stadt Levanto einzigartig macht, ist die Nähe von
Meer und Bergen, Strand und Hügeln am Fuße einer Bergkette.
Die Stadt gehört zum Nationalpark der Cinque Terre und der
Riviera Spezzina und bietet aufmerksamen Beobachtern zwei
einzigartige Schauspiele: das geschützte Gebiet am Meer und
den Nationalpark mit seinen Pinien, der die Besucher immer
wieder ins Staunen versetzt.
Die Stadt ist über zwei Straßen mit den Cinque Terre verbunden;
die Autobahn im Landesinneren und die Landstraße, direkt
über der Küste. Über 80 markierte und nicht markierte
Wanderwege führen direkt vom Meer in die Berge und dank
des dichten Netzes an Pfaden führen viele Wege, inmitten von
Gärten, Olivenhainen, Weinhängen, Kastanienbäumen und
Mittelmeerwäldern in die benachbarten Ortschaften. Diese
sind auch mit dem Auto befahrbar.
Fast alle Wege die zu Fuß begangen werden können sind keine
schwierigen Wege und eignen sich sowohl für Wanderer wie für
Familien die gerne spazieren gehen. Sie werden von Wegweisern
signalisiert, die die Wanderzeiten bis in die jeweils nächsten
Dörfern angeben.
Wir schlagen hier drei Alternative vor: die Strecke von Levanto
bis nach Monterosso, entlang des Pfades Nummer 1 (abgehend
von der Promenade Levantos), Nr. 10 des C.A.I., entlang der
Küste und durch den Nationalpark der Cinque Terre ; die Strecke
von Fossato nach Montale, entlang der Pfade Nummer 30 und
30°, entlang der mittelalterlichen Dörfer Lizza, Lavaggiorosso,
Groppo, Dosso und Casella, man darf hier nicht die alte
Wassermühle am Anfang verpassen; die letzte Strecke führt von
Madonna della Guardia bis nach Ghiare, entlang der Pfade
12, 30 und 30A und führt durch die Dörfer Ridarolo, Fontona,
Chiesa, Legnaro, Lerici, Pastine und Vignana, einfache Wege
mit ein paar steilen Strecken vor Ridarolo.
Es wurde vor kurzem der Weg eröffnet, der Levanto mit
Bonassola und Framura verbindet, in beide Richtungen
begehbar und von zahlreichen Grünflächen und einem
komfortablen Radweg begleitet.
In der Natur die Levanto umgibt ist es leicht möglich,
Falken, die seit jeher hier beheimatet sind und Bussarde, die
aus der Toskana kommen, anzutreffen; ebenso Säugetiere
wie Füchse oder sogar Wölfe, die den Apennin überqueren.
Auf den Wanderwegen muss man während der
Jagdzeit besonders vorsichtig sein, da die Pfade oft nicht
ausreichend beschildert sind und sich in der Nähe der
Wildschweinhöhlen befinden. Daher empfehlen wir, nur
ausreichend beschilderte Wege zu benutzen, die sich für
die ganze Familie eignen. Außerdem gibt es in der Gegend
zahlreiche Gift- und Wasserschlangen, daher sollten auf
den Wanderwegen auch im Sommer hohe Schuhe getragen
werden. Spaziergänger sollten darauf achten, den Park
sauber zu verlassen.
Der Nationalpark kümmert sich unter anderem auch um
die Erhaltung der berühmten Terrassen, die schon immer
ein markantes Merkmal des Gebietes sind.
An der Küste die sich fast einen Kilometer lang bogenförmig
über breite in hohen Klippen eingebettete Sand- oder
Kiesstrände erstreckt, befinden sich Strandbäder,
ausgestattet mit Einrichtungen für Behinderte,
Bereichen zur kostenlosen Nutzung der Badegäste, einem
Wassersportzentrum mit modernen Einrichtungen die
sich dem Bootsverleih, Ausflügen entlang der Küste auf
Entdeckung von Höhlen und Buchten in denen man
Schwimmen kann und geführten Tauchgängen widmen.

Nature
What makes Levanto so special is an ancient bond between
sea and mountain, the thin sand and the piedomont hill.
It is part of the territory of the Park of the Cinque Terre and
also of Riviera Spezzina, offers, to the careful visitor, two
magnificent views, that go from the marine protected area
to the park covered with pine groves, that never cease to
amaze.
It is connected to the Cinque Terre by two roads, the inner
state road and the trail that overlooks the coast, we mustn't
forget that there are also less important roads that go from
the sea to the mountain, that are part of the thick net of
paths which are among the vegetable gardens, the olive
tree groves, the vineyards and the Mediterranean maquis.
They are more than eighty, frequented and non, they are
all connected to the neighbouring hamlets and can also be
reached by car.
The majority of the foot paths is not difficult and is suitable
both for excursionists and for families who love tracking,
there are signs along the path that indicate the distance in
minutes, to the nearest hamlets.
We suggest three options: the path that goes from Levanto
to Monterosso, along path number 1 (it starts from
the sea front of Levanto) and CAI path number 10, that
follows the coast and goes through the National Park of
the Cinque Terre; another one that goes from Fossano to
Montale, through paths number 30 and 30A following the
medioeval hamlets of Lizza, Lavaggiorosso, Groppo, Dosso
and Casella, not to be missed the ancient water mill at the
beginning of the trail; the last path goes from Madonna
della Guardia to Ghiare, following the ancient paths 12, 30
and 30A, it goes through the villages of Ridarolo, Fontona,
Chiesanuova, Legnaro, Lerici, Pastine and Vignana, it is
quite a comfortable trail but some parts before you reach
Ridarolo, are steep.
A new promenade that connects Bonassola, Framura and
Levanto in both directions, has been recently inaugurated,
there are many green areas and a comfortable cycle lane.
In the surrounding nature of Levanto, it is easy to come
across hawks and buzzards, the first one are native
while the others come from Tuscany, there are also a
large variety of mammals such as foxes; we have often
mentioned, the occasional visits of the wolves that travel
along the Appenine. Special attention must be given to the
frequented paths during the hunting season, seldom they
are not well marked, as they have been created by hunters
and are among steep pine groves, for obvious reasons, near
the dens of wild boars, so choose only trails which have
proper signs.
You must wear tracking shoes in the summer and spring as
the environment is favourable to vipers and water snakes.
Further attention must be given while crossing the area, in
order to keep the park clean, as one of the duties of the Park
is to protect and maintain the terraces which have always
been part of the territory.
The coast stretches for about a kilometre, it has wide sandy
and pebble beaches and evocative cliffs on the two ends,
there are equipped beach resorts, also for disabled and
areas left free for bathers, and a nautical centre equipped
with modern facilities for renting boats.
You will be able to make excursions along the coast,
searching caves and coves where to swim and also go
diving with a guide.

Abbiamo già accennato all’importanza di Levanto nel circuito
delle città “CittaSlow”, ma se i suoi piatti squisiti valgono la
menzione, altrettanta importanza va data alla sua focaccia.
Conosciamo certamente quella di Recco, eppure l’impasto
morbido e la farcitura corposa di acciughe, cipolle o patate,
fa del companatico levantese un altrettanto degno e gustoso
intermezzo pomeridiano, in spiaggia o per i sentieri immersi nella
calma dei boschi.
Numerose sono le focaccerie a produzione propria - una parola
gentile va spesa per la gestione magistrale della cucina de “Il
Falcone” -, e altrettante le osterie affacciate sulla strada. Un
classico, è la trattoria Cavour, nel centro del paese e specializzata
in antipasti, portate di pesce e carne alla brace. Due gli eventi
di maggior pregio, curati nei dettagli dalla comunità e cari
alla tradizione storica del paese: la Festa del Mare, celebrata
in luglio e in onore San Giacomo, patrono dei marinai, che
rievoca la fondazione del Comune imbastendo un magnifico
corteo medievale, predisposta dal gruppo folcloristico “Borgo e
Valle”, e quella di Sant’Andrea in novembre, in onore al patrono
ufficiale… nella prima, dalla sera del 24 e sino al 25 si giostra
di spada in piazza Cavour, accompagnati dal rosso dei fuochi
e dalle acrobazie degli sbandieratori, mentre l’indomani tutti in
paese per la processione dei giganteschi crocefissi di legno
portati a braccio, in una lunga camminata che dal centro termina
sulla passeggiata della Pietra, culminando con l'illuminazione del
golfo attraverso la posa in mare di diecimila ceri colorati. Nella
seconda festività, più intima, si rinsalda il legame spirituale col
patrono, celebrando le maggiori onorificenze della cittadinanza,
quella onoraria e quella di benemerenza.
La natività è cara a Levanto, e ogni anno viene allestita una
mirabile coreografia dagli abitanti dei borghi collinari, che
potrete conoscere attraverso il tour de “I presepi nel presepe”,
disseminati per la vallata di Levanto. La sera, la si vede illuminarsi
da una luce soffusa e discreta, pronta ad accogliere le tante
rappresentazioni della Natività che si incastonano negli abitati.
Il tour si svolge (due pomeriggi durante le festività natalizie)
con trasporto gratuito dei partecipanti su bus, sosta nei borghi
con visita alle Natività e degustazione gratuita di piatti locali.
La terza domenica di maggio si svolge la Mangialunga, che
è una passeggiata enogastronomica attraverso i sentieri della
vallata di Levanto, con sosta nei borghi antichi. Organizzata
dal Comune e dal consorzio turistico "Occhio blu - Levanto
informa", con la collaborazione di oltre un centinaio di volontari
che si dedicano alla pulizia dei sentieri, all'assistenza lungo il
percorso, alla preparazione dei menu e alla distribuzione dei
piatti, offre degustazione dei prodotti tipici della tradizione
locale e animazione musicale. Stralevanto, ad ottobre, vi farà
tornare la fame dopo una lunga gara podistica, sostituita a
febbraio da quella di Corri sul Mare, lungo un percorso tra
Levanto e Bonassola, tra la pista ciclopedonale sul mare e la
strada provinciale che collega i paesi attraversando le colline.
Puntuale e fedele alla propria tradizione di paese turistico
che si apre in maniera ospitale e organizzata alla sua clientela
sempre più internazionale, ogni primavera Levanto inaugura
la stagione con una serie di interessanti proposte per godere
delle bellezze storiche e naturalistiche presenti.
Dal centro storico pedonalizzato si arriva ai numerosi caffè in
cui fare colazione con cornetti appena sfornati, fino ai panifici
in cui smarrirsi tra le varietà di focacce tipiche. Per il pranzo
c’è solo l’imbarazzo della scelta, riservando un posto nei
ristoranti che alternano piatti di pesce al cibo più tradizionale
dell’entroterra. Da qualche anno Levanto è diventato anche
il paese dei mercatini. La particolare conformazione del
centro storico, con le sue vie e piazzette lastricate in pietra
e i suoi giardini pubblici punteggiati di aiuole e alberi ad alto
fusto, attrezzati con i giochi per i bimbi, rappresentano uno

scenario particolarmente suggestivo per
ospitare bancarelle, gazebo e allestimenti
coreografici con i prodotti più disparati.
Dalla primavera all’autunno, praticamente
ogni fine settimana il centro si anima
di colorati banchi che offrono prodotti
dell’agricoltura a chilometro zero,
creazioni floreali, oggetti d’antiquariato e
invenzioni degli appassionati di bricolage
che espongono il risultato di ore passate
a coltivare il proprio hobby. In tutti i casi
queste esposizioni meritano una visita e
un contatto diretto con gli appassionati
ideatori, con i quali è sempre piacevole
intrattenersi per scoprire i segreti della
manualità nella realizzazione degli oggetti
esposti, imparando molto anche dai
professionisti dediti alla produzione di
leccornie che sono un vanto e una garanzia
di qualità dell’enogastronomia locale.
Musica in paese, con la Rassegna Corale
Levantese, promossa dal Gruppo Vocale
Musica Nova (diretto dal maestro Aldo
Viviani), grazie anche alla collaborazione
dell’Amministrazione Comunale di Levanto
e dei locali operatori turistici, e con quella
Organistica, giunta quest’anno alla X
Edizione, il cui obiettivo è diffondere la
conoscenza della musica organistica e la
valorizzazione dei tre organi storici presenti
nel comune di Levanto. Da luglio in avanti
non perdetevi i concerti di musica classica
promossi da “Amfiteatrof”, dedicati al
più importante violoncellista del ‘900, un
russo che arrivò a Levanto con la famiglia
in esilio e qui accolse, nella sua casa, molti
degli intellettuali dell’epoca.
Grazie a una rara combinazione di venti
di scirocco, fondali sabbiosi e ampie
insenature, il mare di Levanto ha fama
di essere la perfetta macchina da surf
della riviera, subito dopo Recco e i suoi
cavalloni.
Ogni anno, si riuniscono qui giovani surfisti,
appassionati di bodyboard e subacquei
per vocazione, celebrano le onde alte
quasi tre metri. In loro onore la città ha
ospitato celebri manifestazioni a tema
quali il Quicksilver Big Wave ed il Salomon
Blue Games nel 2005. Non una terza
festività, ma quasi. Levanto è oltretutto un
vero paradiso per i sub e gli appassionati
dello snorkeling. Levanto, infine, è il luogo
ideale per la pratica delle attività sportive
all’aperto tutto l’anno. Calcio e atletica
trovano spazio nello stadio situato in
località Moltedi, nell’area retrostante la
stazione ferroviaria, la pista ciclopedonale
“Maremonti” consente di fare jogging,
pedalare o passeggiare lungo l’ex ferrovia
sul mare da Levanto a Framura, le strade
carrozzabili della vallata impegnano i ciclisti
e i podisti più allenati, i percorsi sterrati
che si inerpicano sulle vette più alte fino ai
monti Rossola e Bardellone aprono visuali
mozzafiato sulla costa agli interessati più
dinamici, pronti a godere delle bellezze di
questo luogo unico nel suo genere.

Accueil, tourisme et événements
Nous avons déjà mentionné l'importance que Levanto suscite au niveau de la
"CittaSlow". Si ses plats exquis valent la mention, une grande importance doit
être aussi accordée à la focaccia bien que celle de Recco soit particulièrement
renommée. Toutefois sa pâte molle farcie d’anchois ou d’oignons ou de
pommes de terre en fait un encas digne du goût du Levant qui peut être
grignoté soit dans l’après-midi, soit sur la plage, soit sur les sentiers immergés
dans le calme de la forêt.
Il existe de nombreuses focaccerie qui produisent eux-mêmes leur focaccia. Un
compliment mérité envers la gestion magistrale "Il Falcone" sans omettre les
nombreuses tavernes qui ouvrent leurs portes sur la rue. Un classique, l’auberge
Cavour, au centre de la ville est spécialisée pour les hors-d’œuvre, poissons et
viandes cuites sur la braise. Deux événements de grande importance, soignés
en détails par la communauté et par les passionnés de la tradition historique
des lieux. Il s’agit du « festival del Mare » « Fête de la Mer » tenue en Juillet en
l'honneur de Saint-Jacques, patron des marins, qui commémore la fondation de
la ville avec sa procession médiévale préparée par le groupe folklorique "Borgo
e Valle". Puis celle de « Saint-Andrea » qui a lieu en Novembre en l'honneur du
patron officiel ... Lors de la première manifestation, dès le soir du 24 et jusqu'à
25 juillet il se déroule un duel sur la Piazza Cavour accompagné par des feux
rouges et par des acrobaties de lanceurs de drapeaux. Le lendemain soir tout
le monde se réuni en ville pour la procession des crucifix en bois géants portés
à la main le long de la longue promenade qui part du centre et qui se termine
sur la promenade de la Pietra où des milliers de bougies colorées illumineront
le golfe et seront laissées aller à la dérive. Lors de la seconde festivité qui résulte
plus intime où le lien spirituel est renforcé avec le saint patron en célébrant les
honneurs de la citoyenneté, soit de l'honneur que du mérite.
La crèche est chère à Levanto, chaque année une chorégraphie merveilleuse
est mise en scène par les habitants des bourgs et des collines limitrophes que
l’on peut découvrir en visitant «Les crèches dans la crèche», éparpillées dans la
vallée de Levanto. Le soir, sa lumière douce et discrète réchauffe les lieux prêts
à accueillir les nombreuses représentations de la Nativité qui s’encastrent chez
les habitants. La visite a lieu (deux après-midi par semaine durant les fêtes de la
nativité) transport par bus gratuit pour les participants, arrêt dans les localités
avec visite à la Nativité et dégustation gratuite de plats locaux.
Le troisième dimanche de mai se tient la Mangialunga, c’est une promenade
gastronomique qui longe les sentiers de la vallée de Levanto, avec arrêts
dans les bourgs anciens. Cette promenade est organisée par la ville et par le
consortium touristique "Occhio Blu - Levanto informe", avec la collaboration de
plus d'une centaine de volontaires qui se consacrent au nettoyage des sentiers,
à l'assistance le long du parcours, à la préparation des menus et à la distribution
de la nourriture. La manifestation offre une dégustation des produits typiques
de la tradition locale bercée par un fond musical. Stralevanto, en octobre, vous
fera venir la faim après une longue course à pied qui se répètera en février
par celle intitulée Corri sul Mare, courses qui se déroulent entre Levanto et
Bonassola par la piste piétonnière donnant sur la mer et par la route qui
relie les villages en traversant les collines. Ponctuelle et fidèle à sa tradition,
les structures de réception sont ouvertes, accueillantes et organisées en vue
de recevoir une clientèle qui devient de plus en plus internationale. Levanto,

à chaque printemps ouvre la saison avec une série d’offres
intéressantes afin de faire profiter ses hôtes des beautés
naturelles et historiques présentes sur le territoire. Le centre
historique devenu piétonnier offre de nombreux bars où il
est possible de prendre le petit déjeuner avec des croissants
frais. En outre boulangeries appétissantes offrent une
grande variété de pains typiques. Pour le déjeuner, il y a que
l'embarras du choix, réservant une place dans les restaurants
qui servent des plats de poisson aux produits traditionnels de
l'arrière-pays.
Depuis quelques années, Levanto est également devenu le
pays des marchés. La forme particulière du centre historique
avec ses rues pavées, ses places en pierres et ses jardins publics
parsemés de parterres de fleurs et de grands arbres équipés
de jeux pour enfants, se prête particulièrement pour accueillir
des stands, des kiosques et des installations chorégraphiques
pour exposer les produits les plus disparates. Du printemps
à l'automne, pratiquement chaque week-end la ville prend
vie avec des étals colorés qui offrent des produits agricoles
à zéro kilomètre ou des créations florales ou des antiquités
et encore des inventions fabriquées par des passionnés du
bricolage qui exposent leurs résultats après de nombreuses
heures passées à exprimer leur passe-temps. Dans tous les
cas, ces expositions valent bien une visite et un contact direct
avec ces passionnés de la création. Il est toujours agréable de
passer un peu de temps à discuter avec eux pour découvrir
les secrets de la fabrication des objets exposés. Il y a aussi
beaucoup à apprendre des professionnels de la production
des délices qui représente une fierté et une assurance de la
qualité de la gastronomie locale.
Musique dans le pays, avec la Chorale de Levanto, promue par
le groupe Vocale Musica Nova (dirigé par maître Aldo Viviani),
ce, grâce à la collaboration de l'Administration Municipale
de Levanto, aux tour-opérateurs locaux et aux concerts
d’orgue qui, ensemble sont arrivés cette année à la dixième
Edition. L’objectif est de sensibiliser la musique d'orgue et
la mise en valeur de trois orgues historiques présents dans
la ville de Levanto. A partir du mois de Juillet il convient de
ne pas perdre les concerts de musique classiques promus
par "Amfiteatrof", dédiés au plus important violoncelliste
du 19e siècle, un Russe qui est arrivé en exil à Levanto avec
sa famille et qui accueillait dans sa maison la plupart des
intellectuels de l’époque. Grâce à une rare combinaison des
vents du sud, des fonds sableux et des grandes baies, la mer
de Levanto est réputée être la machine parfaite de la Riviera
pour le surf juste après Recco et ses vagues. Chaque année
se rassemblent ici plongeurs de vocation et jeunes surfeurs
passionnés de bodyboard qui volent sur les vagues hautes

célèbres événements thématiques tels que les Quicksilver
Big Wave et le Salomon Bleu Games en 2005. Presque une
troisième fête. Levanto est avant tout un paradis pour les
plongeurs et les amateurs de plongée en apnée.
Levanto, enfin, est l'endroit idéal pour la pratique des sports
en plein air tout au long de l'année. Le football et l'athlétisme
trouvent leur place au stade situé dans la localité Moltedi.
Dans la zone derrière la gare, la piste cyclable "Maremonti"
qui va de Levanto à Framura permet de pratiquer le jogging,
la bicyclette ou tout simplement la marche à pied longeant
l'ancienne voie ferrée qui donne sur la mer. Les routes de la
vallée sont particulièrement indiquées pour les cyclistes et les
coureurs entraînés. Les chemins de terre qui grimpent sur les
plus hauts sommets des monts Rossola et Bardellone ouvrent
des vues imprenables qui donnent sur la côte pour ceux qui
sont passionnés et dynamiques et prêts à cueillir la beauté de
ce lieu unique en son genre.

Wir haben bereits über die Bedeutung Levantos im Kreise der
CittaSlow Städte geschrieben, aber wenn von den traditionellen
Speisen der Stadt gesprochen wird, muss man auch die Focaccia
erwähnen. Viele kennen sicher die mit Käse gefüllte Focaccia
aus Recco. Der pizzaähnliche, weiche Teig aus Levanto mit
seinem üppigen Belag aus Sardinen, Zwiebeln oder Kartoffeln ist
immer ein willkommener Anlass für eine Pause am Strand oder
entlang der Wanderwege. Es gibt zahlreiche Focacciabäckereien.
Außerdem sollte man die Trattoria Il Falcone und die traditionellen
Gaststätten, Osterie genannt, entlang der Straßen nennen. Ein
Klassiker ist die Trattoria Cavour, im Zentrum der Stadt, die
sich auf Vorspeisen, Fisch und gegrilltes Fleisch spezialisiert hat.
Es gibt zwei wichtige Volksfeste, in der die Gemeinde die alten
Traditionen und die Geschichte der Stadt zum Leben erweckt. Das
Fest des Meeres im Juli ist dem Heiligen Giacomo, es wird von der
Volksgruppe „Borgo e Valle“ vorbereitet, ist dem Schutzpatron der
Seeleute gewidmet und erinnert an die Gründung der Stadt. Das
Fest des Sant’Andrea im November ist dem Schutzpatron der Stadt
geweiht. Am Abend des 24. Novembers und bis zum 25. werden auf
der Piazza Cavour mittelalterliche Spiele wie z.B. Schwertkämpfe,
die von Feuerwerken und Fahnenschwingern begleitet werden,
präsentiert. Am Tag danach gibt es eine Prozession mit riesigen
Holzkreuzen, die von Männern auf dem langen Weg vom Zentrum
bis zur Promenade della Pietra getragen werden, der Gipfel ist
die Beleuchtung des Golfs durch zehntausend farbige, im Meer
verteilte Kerzen. Durch das zweite, viel ursprünglichere Fest soll
die Beziehung zum Stadtpatron gefestigt werden. Man feiert
bei diesem Anlass auch die Bürger, die sich um die Stadt wohl
verdient gemacht haben. Die Geburt Christi ist für Levanto sehr
wichtig, jedes Jahr wird eine wunderbare Choreographie von den
Bewohnern der Bergdörfer inszeniert, die man während der Tour
"Die Krippen in der Krippe" die rund um das Tal von Levanto
verstreut sind, kennenlernen kann. Abends kann man sie in
einem weichen und dezenten Licht bestaunen, bereit, die vielen
Darstellungen der Geburt Christi zu rappresentieren die sich in den
Siedlungen einbetten. Die Bustour ist (zwei Nachmittage während
der Weihnachtszeit ) kostenlos für die Teilnehmer, einschliesslich
Besuch der Krippen in den verschiedenen Orten und freie Kostprobe
lokaler Gerichte.
Am dritten Sonntag im Mai wird die Mangialunga gehalten, es
handelt sich hier um eine kulinarische Wanderung über die Wege
von Levantos Tal, mit Halt in den alten Dörfern. Von der Stadt
und dem Touristenkonsortium "Blue Eye - Levanto informiert"
organisiert, in Zusammenarbeit mit mehr als hundert Freiwilligen
die sich dem Reinigen der Wege, der Betreuung auf dem Weg, der
Vorbereitung der Menüs und der Verteilung von Lebensmitteln
widmen, werden Kostproben typischer Produkte der lokalen
Tradition und musikalische Unterhaltung angeboten. Stralevanto
wird Sie im Oktober nach einem langen Wettlauf wieder hungrig
machen. Auch im Februar ein Wettlauf „Corri sul Mare“, dieser führt
entlang eines Weges zwischen Levanto und Bonassola, zwischen
der Fußgänger- und Radweg am Meer und der Provinzstraße, die,
den überquerend, die Orte miteinander verbindet. Pünktlich und
den Traditionen eines Touristenortes treu bleibend, der sich seinen
immer internationaleren Kunden gegenüber gastfreundlich und
organisiert zeigt, öffnet Levanto jedes Jahr im Frühling die Saison
mit einer Reihe von interessanten Vorschlägen, um die bestehenden
historischen und natürlichen Schönheiten zu genießen. Von der

Fussgängerzone im antiken Zentrum hat man Zugang zu den
vielen Cafés um hier mit frisch gebackenen Croissants direkt aus
dem Ofen zu frühstücken, sowie zu den Bäckereien, in denen
man sich in einer Vielzahl von typischen Foccaccias verlieren
kann. Wenn Sie zum Mittagessen einen Platz in einem Restaurant
reservieren, dessen Angebot von Fischgerichten bis zu traditionellen
Gerichten reicht, werden Sie die Qual der Wahl haben. Seit
einigen Jahren ist Levanto auch als Ort der Märkte bekannt.
Die besondere Form der Altstadt mit ihren gepflasterten Straßen
und Plätzen aus Stein und den mit Blumenbeeten und hohen
Bäumen und Spielplätzen übersäten öffentlichen Gärten, stellen
einen besonders malerischen Ort für Marktstände, Pavillons und
choreographische Inszenierungen dar in denen die verschiedensten
Produkte angeboten werden. Von Frühling bis Herbst wird die
Stadt praktisch jedes Wochenende mit bunten Ständen lebendig die
landwirtschaftliche Erzeugnisse bei null km, Blumenkreationen,
Antiquitäten und Erfindungen von Heimwerkern, das Ergebnis
von stundenlanger Kultivierung ihr Hobbys, anbieten. Auf jeden
Fall sind alle diese Ausstellungen einen Besuch und einen direkten
Kontakt mit den leidenschaftlichen Schöpfern wert. Es ist immer
schön ist, Zeit mit ihnen zu verbringen, um die Geheimnisse
des Handwerks in der Erschaffung der Ausstellungsstücke zu
entdecken, man lernt auch sehr viel auch von Profis die auf die
Produktion von den Delikatessen spezialisiert sind, die der Stolz
und eine Garantie der lokalen Nahrungsmittelkette sind. Es gibt
Musik im Dorf bei dem Festival der Chöre Levantos, gefördert von
der Vokalgruppe Musica Nova (Regie Aldo Viviani Master), auch
dank der Zusammenarbeit mit der Stadtverwaltung Levantos und
mit lokalen Reiseveranstaltern. Auch das Orgelfestival hat seine X
Edition erreicht. Sein Ziel ist es, das Bewusstsein für Orgelmusik
zu erhöhen und die drei historischen Orgeln in der Stadt Levanto
aufzuwerten. Ab Juli sollte man nicht die von "Amfiteatrof"
geförderten Konzerte klassischer Musik verpassen die dem
wichtigsten Cellisten des Jahres 900 gewidmet sind, ein Russe, der
mit der Familie nach Levanto ins Exil kam und hier, in seinem
Haus, viele der Intellektuellen seiner Zeit beherbergte.
Dank einer seltenen Kombination aus Schirokkowinden, tiefem
Wasser mit sandigen Ufern und weiten Buchten zählt Levanto
zu einem der beliebtesten Ziele für Surfer an der Riviera. Jährlich
treffen sich hier junge Surfer, Bodyboard- Begeisterte und Taucher,
um sich an den fast drei Meter hohen Welle zu erfreuen. Ihnen
zu Ehren hat die Stadt bekannte Events organisiert, darunter
Quicksilver Big Wave und Salomon Blue Games im Jahr 2005.
Diese Events können beinahe schon als drittes Volksfest gesehen
werden. Levanto ist unter anderem auch ein wahres Paradies für
Taucher und Schnorchelliebhaber. Es ist der ideale Ort um das
ganze Jahr über Outdoor-Sportarten zu praktizieren.
Fußball und Leichtathletik kann man im Stadion in dem Bereich
hinter dem Bahnhof von Moltedi ausüben, auf dem Fuß- und
Fahrradweg „Maremonti" (der Teil des „Radwegenetzes Liguriens“
ist) kann man entlang der ehemaligen Eisenbahn direkt am Meer von
Levanto nach Framura joggen oder einen Spaziergang machen. Die
befahrbaren Straßen des Tals hingegen werden von den geübteren
Radfahrern und Läufern benutzt, die unbefestigten Straßen die sich
bis hinauf auf die höchsten Berggipfel von Rossola und Bardellone
winden, öffnen den dynamischen Mountainbikefahrern und den
Trekkingliebhabern einen atemberaubenden Blick auf die Küste
und ihren in ihrem Genere einzigartigen Schönheiten.

We have already mentioned the importance of Levanto among
the circuit of “CittaSlow” towns, but if its delicious dishes are
worth to mention, we have to give the same importance to its
focaccia.
We certainly know that of Recco, yet the soft dough and the
stuffing with anchovies, onions or potatoes, makes this
Levanto dish a suitable tasty snack to take to the beach or
when we go along the quiet foot paths.
There are many focacciarie, that offer homemde products,
a kind word must be spent about the skillfull cuisine of “Il
Falcone” and also to the taverns that overlook the street.
A classic place for eating, is trattoria Cavour, situated in
the centre of the village, it is specialised in starters and fish
dishes and grilled meat. Two are the major events of the
village, particulary looked after by the inhabitants that love
the historic tradition of their village.
The sea festival, dedicated to Saint James, patron saint of
seamen, takes place in july, it remembers the founding of
the village, there is a magnificent medioeval procession,
organized by the folkloristic group “Borgo e Valle” and the
celebration of Saint Andrew, in November, the official patron
saint, the event takes place in the evening on 24th and goes
on till the day after; there are jousting swords exhibitions, in
Cavour square, accompanied by the red colour of the fires,
the acrobatic flag wavers, the next day, on the 25th,the whole
village takes part to the procession where huge wooden
crucifixes are carried by men, who walk from the village centre
towards Pietra promenade, where the procession ends, the
gulf is then lit with ten thousand coloured candles.
During the second festivity, which is more intimate, the
spiritual bond of the patron saint is reinforced, there is even
the celebration of the major honours of honorary and merit
citizenship. The nativity is also dear to Levanto, every year
there is a remarkable choreography made by the inhabitants
of the villages on the hills, you may enjoy visiting the tour “I
presepi nei presepi”, which takes place all along the valley of
Levanto. In the evening the valley is lit by a soft, moderate
light, which is ready to welcome the many performances that
take places in the villages.
The tour takes place in the afternoon, on two days during the
Christmas holidays, transport by bus is free, there are stops
in the villages, to look and visit the Nativity and free tasting of
local dishes. The third sunday in May there is Mangialunga,

In recent years Levanto has also become the village of street
markets. The particular shape of the historic centre, its roads
and the small stone paved squares, its public gardens with
flower beds and trees with high trunks, equipped with games
for children, represent a rather evocative scenery to host
stalls, gazebos and choreographic settings using the most
varied products.

livens up with the coloured stalls that offer farming products
