NOMADIC LIFESTYLE HEADPHONES PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT ADVERTORIAL © Philips PHILIPS FIDELIO M1BT BLUETOOTH HEADPHONES Freeing users from the cord via the latest Bluetooth 4.0 standard KEY USPs Latest Bluetooth 4.0 Premium sound experience Easy access controls on ear cans Philips introduces the Fidelio M1BT Bluetooth headphones at the 2013 IFA show. Combining the freedom of Bluetooth with the sound quality of the Fidelio brand, the M1BT fits consumers who have a passion for sound and music. The Bluetooth functionality, new to the M1 range, allows users to enjoy both music and phone calls wirelessly. Controls on the ear ‘cans’ make it easy to switch tracks without pulling out a music player. Unlike other Bluetooth headphones, the M1BT utilizes the latest Bluetooth 4.0 standard along with APT-X (Android), AAC (Apple) and SBC for the superior music streaming. The M1 Bluetooth edition works with a wide range of Bluetooth smartphones, tablets and music players. “The M1BT offers the superior sound quality and comfort that has made the M1s so successful, combining it with the freedom of Bluetooth,” says Pascal Van Laer, consumer marketing for headphones at Philips Lifestyle Entertainment. “We carried out significant research not only into crafting a premium sound experience, but also to creating a Bluetooth headphone that is light, comfortable and easy to use.” To enjoy high-definition sound, the Philips Fidelio M1BT headphones are built with 40mm high magnetic intensity neodymium speaker drivers that provide a wide dynamic range, so consumers can hear those very subtle details on their favorite tracks. The acoustic closed-back architecture ensures excellent noise isolation whilst delivering a controlled and dynamic bass, every beat and every instrument-- with all the clarity the artist intended-- can be heard. The Philips Fidelio M1BT headphones have been crafted for durability and long-lasting comfort. Easy access controls are right on the ear cans allowing you to adjust the volume with just a touch. Deluxe memory foam ear-pads, made from breathable materials, are designed to disperse pressure and heat build-up so that they not only sound brilliant but feel exceptional too. The carefully selected materials, such as aluminum hinge and real leather headband, make these headphones light, stylish, durable and comfortable. The Philips Fidelio M1BT headphones are available now in Europe at a recommended retail price of EUR 249.99. BUYERS' GUIDE OVER-EAR HEADPHONES I FA international Official Daily News Source f or International Visitors at IFA KEY SELLING POINTS TECHNOLOGY Connectivity Most over-ear headphones are connected with a cable. However, some models are available that use Bluetooth technology for a wireless connection. Compatibility The predominant source devices for mobile over-ear headphones are smartphones. Consequently, headphones should be enabled to take calls and include a microphone in the cable, so they can double as hands-free sets. Watch out for compatibility to a wide array of devices, such as iOS and Android. Construction Open-back designs are reputed to provide a better, more high-fidelity sound. On the downside, they leak a lot of sound to the outside and also let more ambient noise into the headphone. Many customers therefore prefer closed-back designs for their better sound insulation. FEATURES Controls Headphones for mobile use should have controls to regulate the volume, playback and phone functions of the source device. Cabled headphones usually incorporate these controls into the upper part of the cable. Wireless headphones may have the controls on the side of one earpiece. Noise cancellation Active noise cancellation is a key feature in headphones used by travellers. Especially efficient on trains and planes, more and more people have started using these headphones in busy streets as well. This raises safety issues and means that some kind of function to control or switch off noise cancellation should be present. Accessories The more accessories that come with a mobile headphone, the better. Standard accessories are adaptors for 3.5mm and 6.3mm headphone jacks and a carrying pouch. Airline adaptors and cables of varying lengths should also be included with the higher end models. DESIGN Street style Over-ear headphones targeted at younger audiences are as much fashion items as audio devices. This is reflected by the wide range of available designs, often inspired by an endorsement of the product by an artist, musician or lifestyle brand. Traveller style High-end models for travellers and older, wealthier customers are to some extent also a fashion statement, but in a much more subdued way. The use of expensive materials, such as brushed metal and real leather, is widespread in this segment. On-ear headphones Some customers prefer on-ear headphones because they are less bulky and more portable than the over-ear models. They also sound better and are more comfortable to wear than in-ear headphones. INNOVATING @ IFA SENNHEISER MOMENTUM ON-EAR HEADPHONES Sennheiser is introducing three new versions of its Momentum on-ear headphones. Now available in highgloss black, classic brown and intense red, the new headphones revisit the stylish, minimalist urban look of Sennheiser’s Momentum series, delivering a combination of pure, clean aesthetics and high performance in a compact on-ear design. » HALL 3.2/ STAND 104 CELLULARLINE DRAGONFLY HEADPHONES The Dragonfly headphones from Cellularline combine Bluetooth wireless technology with soft gel padding on the headband. The Headphones feature Superbass technology and passive noise cancelling, while a microphone with answer button and remote control of audio and voice functions makes it easy to switch from music to a phone call. » HALL 3.2/ STAND 109 » HALL 22 / STAND 101 » HALL 3.2 / STAND 205 » HALL 3.2 / STAND 104 » HALL 3.2 / STAND 205 Our thanks to EISA for their help in compiling this buyers' guide, and to Homedics, Sennheiser and SMS Audio for their input.
