How will you achieve that in Europe? In 2018, Panasonic will celebrate the 100th anniversary of its founding. By this time, we aim to be the No. 1 Green Innovation Company in the Electronics Industry. This means, that we will make the environment central to all of our business activities. Specifically, we will focus on two types of innovation: The ideas we provide through our ‘Green Life Innovation’ will make possible a green lifestyle to enrich people’s lives, while our ‘Green Business Innovation’ will focus on achieving a maximum reduction in the environmental impact of your own business activities, and we will offer this new way of doing business to society at large. As the first step towards the goal, Panasonic will devote the next three years (Green Transformation 2012 (GT 12)) to making group-wide efforts in shifting its paradigm for growth and laying a foundation to be Green Innovation Company, while integrating its contribution to the environment and business growth. In Europe, we will externally announce our new ‘eco ideas’ targets for GT12 at IFA. There are three targets for both the ‘Green Life Innovation’ and ‘Green Business Innovation’ area. For ‘Green Life Innovation’, we aim to achieve 30% of our sales with eco labelled products (e.g. EU eco flower), we want to make a contribution of 3,500,000 tonnes in reducing CO2 emissions with energy solution products (e.g. Solar Panels, Heat Pumps) and we plan to educate 100,000 elementary school children across Europe with regard to what they can do to contribute to the environment. In regards to ‘Green Business Innovation’ we aim to achieve a recycling rate of 99% across our European production, reduce 1,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions in our European offices and make a contribution of 7,000 tonnes reduction of CO2 from production activities. What new green innovations and products are present at IFA? A big part of our booth at this year’s IFA will be devoted to showing our green innovations and comprehensive sustainable solutions for the entire home. We will showcase our energy solutions that combine energy creation, energy storage and energy saving with energy management to control all of these factors in a coordinated way. Energy creation will be demonstrated through solar panels; energy storage through our storage battery; energy saving through an Air-to-Water-Heat Pump and LED Lighting. To better understand the complexity of our solutions, we will also showcase a miniature "eco house". Can you tell us a bit about your European ambitions for the Panasonic-Sanyo collaboration? As you are aware, Panasonic Corporation announced on July 29 that Panasonic is pursuing the plan to acquire all shares of SANYO in order to make it a wholly-owned subsidiary of Panasonic by around April 2011. We will now incorporate SANYO Electric's strengths in the energy businesses, for example, the rechargeable battery business in which they can boast the top global market share, and the solar cell business in which they offer the best efficiency levels in the world, and seek to realise genuine synergy between our two companies. In doing so, the New Panasonic Group will become a leading company in the fields of energy and ecology and will be able to offer a broad range of products and solutions to people all over the world.
