News SHENZHEN KEY FACTS

News SHENZHEN KEY FACTS Being China’s first Special Economic Zone initiated by Mr. Deng Xiaoping, and after 35 years of rapid development, Shenzhen has grown from a small fishing village, bordering Hong Kong, into a mega-city with a regional GDP of 250 billion US dollars, ranking No. 4 of all cities in the Chinese mainland. Shenzhen is a major economic central city in South China. CE China will have its home in Shenzhen’s ultra-modern exhibition grounds. It’s an ideal location, not only because Shenzhen is at the heart of a center of the country’s electronics industry, but also because of its great transport links, thanks to airport hubs in Shenzhen and nearby Guangzhou, and the fact that both Hong Kong and Macao are very close by. The event will build on the distinct success of the IFA concept, with its focus on brands and their innovation and products. By bringing together trade visitors from around the world and real consumers, IFA is also an excellent reality check for cutting edge technology, an approach that the Messe Berlin team wants to replicate in Shenzhen. The plans for developing CE China have the full support of Shenzhen’s city administration. Top Chinese retailers like Alibaba and Gome are also backing the concept, while other leading retailer groups have signalled their support. IDG, China’s most important publisher for media focusing on consumer electronics, will be a long-term strategic Partner of CE China. Limin Guo, the Director General of the Shenzhen Economy, Trade and Information Commission, said “Both Berlin and Shenzhen are set to benefit enormously from closer trade cooperation and economic ties. Bringing a global IFA event to Shenzhen is a major step to achieve this goal, and Shenzhen's Municipal Government fully supports and encourages this move.” Dr Christian Göke, Chief Executive of Messe Berlin GmbH, said: “What makes IFA so successful is our focus on brands, products and consumers. We wanted to make this move to China at the right time - when we know that we can replicate both the quality and the success of IFA in Shenzhen. We observed the market very closely, and we are certain: the right time is now.” Cornelia Yzer, Senator for Economics, Technology and Research: "As a Berlin senator and member of the Supervisory Board of Messe Berlin, I am delighted that here and now two successful partners get together: IFA and the Chinese city Shenzhen." “The idea for Consumer Electronics China really came from our many Chinese partners here at IFA, who asked us time and again whether we could organize a similar show focused on China,” said Jens Heithecker, Executive Director of IFA at Messe Berlin. “We will build on our many years of close co-operation with China’s consumer electronics and household appliances industry, as well as our partnership with key retailers like Alibaba and Gome to make CEC a success.” Tomorrow’s edition of IFA International will bring more, detailed information on this major announcement. Bringing a global IFA event to Shenzhen is a major step to achieve this goal Shenzhen is in close proximity to Hong Kong and provides convenient transportation facilities. As a Special Economic Zone, Shenzhen is a highly open economy and has trade relations with more than 200 countries and regions in the world. As China’s very first nationally recognized City of Innovation, Shenzhen has 4,700 nationally rated hi-tech companies, which is 49 percent of the national total. More than 60 percent of Shenzhen’s hi-tech products come with proprietary intellectual property rights. In 2014, overall social investment in Research and Development amounted to 4.02 percent of regional GDP. Shenzhen was No. 1 in the 2014 Forbes ranking of mainland China’s most innovative cites.
