WHERE TO GO IN BERLIN Restaurants Restaurant Reinhard’s In the heart of the Nikolaiviertel in Berlin you can undertake a wonderful journey through time. Passing through the massive swing doors of Reinhard’s you will find yourself in the world of the Golden Twenties. The atmosphere is underlined by the flair of Parisian cafés. The restaurant is lovingly decorated with pictures of celebrated theatre and movie stars and famous expressionist and naturalist paintings. The international kitchen with French finesse presents day and evening menus that change each week. One of their specialities “The secret of the Kaiserhof” is a dish that the kitchen of the Kaiserhof hotel once created for the artist Max Liebermann. The recipe of the sauce is still a secret. The philosophy of Reinhard’s is that you can eat and drink everything from croissant and coffee to an exclusive menu with vintage champagne. The Chamäleon presents world class artistic performances and innovative shows with a mix of acrobatics, dance and music. The new show Crossroads started performing on August 26 2014. Witness the meeting of individual artists and watch them create something new – follow them on a rousing, emotional journey, coloured with devoted acrobats and set with magical music. Crossroads: colourful, electrifying, exciting, sexy and absolutely captivating. A multi-talented cast of local artists and international guests form the heart of the show. Six performers are circus artists as well as musicians. They accompany each other musically until sounds and bodies fuse together and music becomes visible. The result is a physical explosion of circus skills, dance choreographies and live music that mirrors the unmistakable creative energy of our city. We look forward to your visit! Museums & Exhibitions Chamäleon Theater Walker Evans – A Life’s Work Walker Evans (1903-1975) was one of the great personalities of 20th century photography, being an exponent of what is called the “documentary” style. For the first time an extensive retrospective of his works is to be presented in Berlin. His work, which spans a period of over fifty years, will be represented by well over 200 original prints from the years 1928 to 1974, mostly from the considerable private collection of Clark and Joan Worswick but also from a few German collections. All Evans’ creative phases will be on display, the continuity of his approach made clear, and suggesting a new way of looking at it. For decades right up to the present the prolific photographic oeuvre of Walker Evans has acquired an increasingly model character. In the five decades of his creative activity the photographer recorded in sober documentary fashion a uniquely authentic picture of America, and like no other before him showed a particular feel for both the everyday and the subtle – the American Vernacular – creating a sense of identity and historic significance.
