NEWS EDITORIAL Richard Barnes Editor-In-Chief Gaining (Even More) Global Relevance IFA continues to break new ground on the international scene Living in a Challenging Environment In a world of perpetual evolution, IFA has again proven to have the capacity to adapt, progress and grow. The show is not only a showcase for new products and “cool stuff” to be launched in the next season. Other aspects such as TecWatch, which highlights new, innovative technology to be integrated into products over the next two to five years gives us a different vision… And the IFA+ Summit, a forum for digital technologies and applications that are set to transform all walks of societal life – on a professional, personal, social or global level – gives an even longer-term outlook. These three “pillars” that make up the information base available at IFA (on top of the amazing plethora of products on show at the stands) fulfil their respective rolls in such a way as to make this event the most exciting of its kind in what is a very “testing” environment. Pulling off this annual challenge – to create a trade show that perfectly “hits the mark” is a task that requires a huge amount of skill and coordination on the part of Messe Berlin. We take our hats off to Messe Berlin CEO Dr Christian Göke, Senior Vice President Messe Berlin Group and IFA Executive Director, Jens Heithecker, and Senior Executive Manager, Dirk Koslowski and the entire IFA team for their work in this respect. We asked Jens Heithecker, Senior Vice President Messe Berlin Group & IFA Executive Director how the 2016 show has progressed compared to the previous editions… As much as we can say before the last day, we are very satisfied with the numbers, especially with the quality of the response. It means we have more international trade visitors; and we will again see a record in international numbers. We have more international media covering IFA, and we are very satisfied. We didn’t automatically expect we would gain another Jens Heithecker Senior Vice President Messe Berlin Group & IFA Executive Director record this year, and we are very happy that we could fulfil the wishes and requests of our exhibitors. If we look at just one day: for example Monday, 73% - almost three quarters of our visitors were trade visitors. 60% of these trade visitors came from abroad. In terms of international attendance, it’s now by far the world’s largest meeting point for this industry.
