News Design partnership

News Design partnership and fast processing power for new Toshiba screens For Toshiba, the television is much more than an evermore powerful, connected nerve centre for home entertainment: “A TV is no longer just a TV. It is progressing” Atsushi Murasawa, Head of Toshiba Visual Products said while introducing the 155cm 55ZL1, the first European set to feature Toshiba’s new CEVO processing engine. The engine uses hybrid frame interpolation and backlight scanning to gain a 400 Hz frame sequence effect. The engine features 512-LEDcluster local dimming, but for Murasawa there’s another aspect. “The TV must be beautiful,” he said. To this end Toshiba has hooked-up with Danish designer Jacob Jansen to design the 55ZL1. “We want to go further in offering thirdparty content such as Places and Marketplaces, a portal for applications which are accessed through the remote control,” Sascha Lange, Head of Marketing, Toshiba Visual Products, Europe, says. Ideally connecting different screens around the household, such as hybrid TV, the PC, even Toshiba’s own new Folio 100, a 32GB, 25cm tablet available in October. Lange points to Toshiba research saying consumers want a highquality picture, easy Internet access and 3D capability in visual devices. “These will be the pillars of our near-term market strategy,” Lange said. “The set-top box is a key component, and connectivity among devices – any screen, anywhere in the house – is the goal.
