Elaine Hagenberg -

Elaine Hagenberg - Elaine Hagenberg - Elaine Hagenberg’s music “soars with eloquence and ingenuity” (ACDA Choral Journal). Her awardwinning compositions are performed worldwide and frequently featured at American Choral Directors Association conferences, All-State festivals, Carnegie Hall, and other distinguished international concert halls from Australia to South America and throughout Europe. In addition to composing full-time, Elaine actively engages in bringing her music to life as the guest artist and featured clinician for professional conferences and festivals both in the U.S. and abroad as a composer, conductor, and accompanist of her work. The Music of Stillness SATB (with divisions) and piano Vocal score 9780193517929 Digital 9780193537422 The Music of Stillness is a beautiful and emotive setting of Sara Teasdale’s poem ‘There Will Be Rest’. Sonorously scored choral phrases conjure up images of ‘stars shining, rooftops covered with snow, crystal peace...finding the music of stillness’. 3.5 minutes My Companion SATB (with divisions) unaccompanied Vocal score 9780193527515 Digital 9780193531512 This is a tender setting of a text by American poet Edith Franklin Wyatt that speaks of companionship and the joys of sharing it as we travel along the road of life. Hagenberg employs her characteristically rich harmonic language to create a piece with great depth and immediacy. 5 minutes Choral Secular A Farewell SATB (with divisions) unaccompanied Vocal score 9780193522664 Digital 9780193537897 Based on Frances Anne Kemble’s poem ‘An Entreaty’, this enchanting piece describes the experience of leaving a beloved time and place. Lush, expressive harmonies and lyrical melodies create a touching musical manifestation of Kemble’s poignant words. 4 minutes 20

- Laura Hawley - b. 1982 Laura Hawley has been steeped in choral art since childhood, and her stylistic versatility is demonstrated through her output for a variety of artists, from the developing chorister to the professional choral ensemble. Her works have been commissioned, performed, and recorded by esteemed choirs including Canadian Chamber Choir, Pro Coro Canada, and Toronto Children’s Chorus. Often influenced by creative community connections and exchanges, Hawley’s music has been described as conjuring ‘the forces of nature and its effect on the human spirit’. Her piece Alhamdoulilah became internationally famous overnight when a video recording entitled ‘Welcome to Canada Syrian Refugees’ went viral on YouTube in December 2014. Hawley is also a highly regarded conductor and educator, and directs various treble and mixed choirs as well as teaching theory and composition at university level. Laura Hawley The Arrow and the Song Alto solo & SSATB or SSSAAA unaccompanied SATB Vocal score 9780193546769 SATB Digital 9780193546776 SSSAAA vocal score 9780193550889 SSSAAA Digital 9780193550896 This imaginative setting of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s poem encourages the use of evocative bird and wind noises to capture the text’s natural imagery. In a fresh, a cappella style, Hawley’s charismatic melodies soar through the vibrant texture, and offer plenty of opportunities for soloists.
