PROMOTION An Education

PROMOTION An Education in Time Born in 1975, the style of the Laureato continues to endure From its founding in 1791, Girard-Perregaux has epitomised a certain sense of style in the world of watchmaking for more than two centuries. The Swiss Maison continues to be a bridge between the past and the future, combining technical mastery and iconic design, capturing the perfect blend of functionality and aesthetics. All these qualities are present in the Laureato, one of Girard-Perregaux’s most iconic models. Originally known as the “Quartz Chronometer”, the watch was affectionately renamed by the cognoscenti in the maison’s biggest market, Italy. The name caught on and thanks to its extraordinary precision and award-winning nature, the model became known as the graduate – or, in Italian, Laureato. But what makes a Laureato? For a start, the octagonal bezel, that sits on top of the case, much like a laurel crown lies on the head of a laureate. This contributes to the Laureato’s distinctive look, but there is far more to this timepiece than its aesthetic nature. Girard-Perregaux is synonymous with haute horlogerie, and the Laureato is a prime example of this with the self-winding movement, the Calibre GP01800, which is enriched with a plethora of refined details.

The main plate is adorned with circular graining, while some components feature bevelling, mirrorpolishing, satin finish, snailing, sunray finish and various engravings. The bridges are decorated with straight Côtes de Genève and the rhodium-plated oscillating weight is embellished with circular Côtes de Genève. There is substance to match the style as the movement has a power reserve of at least 54 hours. To complete the experience of owning a Laureato, the case and integrated bracelet ensure impressive levels of comfort for the wearer. The distinctive look is instantly recognisable and is designed to be suitable for all occasions. From this base, Girard-Perregaux continues to innovate, using its mastery of materials to create newer versions of the Laureato, such as the Laureato Absolute 8Tech, with a case made of octagonal carbon pieces, and the Green Ceramic Aston Martin, inspired by the renowned car makers. The Hour Glass is the exclusive retailer of Girard-Perregaux in Australia and New Zealand.
