BLACKBOOK ON THE PULSE

BLACKBOOK ON THE PULSE Clockwise from above: refined furnishings at 1898 The Post; the Norman Foster-designed Murray; a deluxe room at The Celestine Kyoto Gion; on the beach at One&Only Le Saint Géran; the Presidential Villa at the Park Hyatt St Kitts ON THE WATER CRUISE CONTROL A revamped classic and a trio of new vessels for the perfect life aquatic The recently updated Seven Seas Voyager from Regent is a ship like no other A rt, music and film embrace many timeless classics, and so it is in the world of cruise ships. Regent Seven Seas Cruises has been capturing the verve of cruising as an art form for the past 27 years, and when it was launched in a blaze of publicity in Monte Carlo in 2003, Seven Seas Voyager became the jewel in the crown: a 700-passenger paragon that is typical of that rare breed of cruise ships whose graceful design has a classicism that pleases the eye and soothes the soul. Elegance, glamour and allure are buzzwords of a bygone era, but in Voyager’s rarefied firmament these attributes are cherished and have been tempered by delicacy and decorum. Now, thanks to a multimilliondollar makeover which was completed in 2016, Penthouse, Concierge and Deluxe Suites all boast a sophisticated élan, while a fully fledged makeover by Swedish designer Martin Brudnizki, transforming it into The Bloomsbury (thebloomsburyhotel.com), complete with the arts-themed Dalloway Terrace, Bloomsbury Club Bar and Seamus Heaney Library. A world away on the Mediterranean coast, Four Seasons Tunis (fourseasons. com/tunis), offers domes, courtyards and fountains overlooking the sea with 203 rooms in its hillside setting in the upmarket Gammarth neighbourhood. Warming up the Bavarian Alps this winter, the lakeside Hotel Bachmair Weissach (bachmair-weissach.com) takes inspiration from Japan with its new Mizu Onsen Spa, offering hydrotherapy pools, Sensai products and hot-stone massages. The introduction of Beaverbrook (beaverbrook. co.uk) marks the arrival of another countryside escape, set on 162 hectares in the English countryside not far from the capital, and featuring 18 immaculate suites as well as a Japanese eatery by Nobu’s Taiji Maruyama. Finally, Ireland’s heritagesteeped Adare Manor (adaremanor.com) celebrates the reopening of its 104 guest rooms, a revitalised spa and a Tom Fazio golf course, making it one of the Emerald Isle’s most alluring retreats.
